Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, Armedanddangerousband. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Armed and Dangerous, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Your username

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Armed and Dangerous, and I noticed that your username, "Armedanddangerousband", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you.   Hello, I'm Joyous!. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Armed and Dangerous have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Joyous! Noise! 21:10, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your recent editing history at Armed and Dangerous shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. maybe i should just refrain from using Wikipedia entirely if it doesn't allow factual entries to be made
and tell other people that wikipedia is full of crap now Joshua from ArmedandDangerousBand (talk) 21:19, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Armed and Dangerous. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Please have a look at MOS:DABBLUE before adding any further links to disambiguation pages, thank you! Felida97 (talk) 21:33, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

A bit of person-to-person advice

edit

All those automatic templates are kind of impersonal, right? Listen, I get that you want to put your band info on here. Here's the difficult truth: even though this is the encyclopedia anyone can edit, it's not the website for everything that exists. If your band gets some non-promotional coverage in reliable sources (e.g. major newspapers, books), maybe at that future point it will be time to start an article.

But right now what you're doing just looks like promotion rather than documentation, and your repeated addition of material that multiple people have told you isn't appropriate, well, that just looks like you're here for your own benefit, and from experience I can tell you that kind of thing will get you blocked pretty soon. So, do you have any other contributions you're thinking of making, maybe to the millions of other topics here, or are you just here to promote your band?

(BTW, I tell other people that Wikipedia is full of crap all the time. It has no effect! People keep using it! Weirdest thing.) Indignant Flamingo (talk) 22:32, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

No I get it, Wikipedia isn't for real facts.
I always thought it was, I know better now. 2600:1702:3163:CA40:2036:7807:3608:9C2A (talk) 00:09, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
