Medieval articles
editHey, if you write any new Byzantine stuff, you might want to add them to Wikipedia:WikiProject Middle Ages/New Articles. (I added some of them, but it's hard to keep track of other people's contributions!) Adam Bishop 15:36, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your message
editNice to get a message. But not to worry about the firm - it was all a long time ago. Please feel free to e-mail me. Poetlister 08:59, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
Rampant plagiarism indeed
editIt's only fair; I stole it myself from Antandrus! (I did read Foucault's Pendulum, but I have to say I felt about it as Rossini is said to have felt about Richard Wagner's music: some wonderful moments and some terrible quarters of an hour.) A band geek, indeed, though really more of an orchestra geek (less marching, more reed shaving). And pleased to meet you; welcome to Wikipedia! (Also, native-level Latin? Nifty.) Category:User la-N
editI liked your reference to love children, so I have decided to give you the text of this category header before I delete it. The fact that you put a link to yourself in it shows that you do not understand how categories work. -- RHaworth 19:29:07, 2005-09-07 (UTC)
- Assuming (perhaps erroneously) that there are no love children being created inside the Vatican, there are in fact no native Latin speakers. Nonetheless, some people appreciate the joke, and others - e.g., in private Polish Catholic schools - do in fact learn to speak Latin from a very early age. Others with this level of proficiency include obsequious pedants and the gentlemen who translate the daily news into Latin for the Vatican newspaper.
- Wikipedia users who list themselves as Native Latin speakers include:
I withdraw all criticism of you. I count myself experienced on Wikipedia and it has taken me half an hour to work out what was happening. There are actually about nine people who claim to be native Latin speakers - see this - but they are not listed in category:user la-N because the most recent edit made to each of their pages was done at a time when template:user la did not include the proper category assignment. Confused? I don't blame you.
Keep your text, User:Kbdank71 may decide to close down category:user_la-N properly, in which case you can put the note on your user page instead. -- RHaworth 20:25:03, 2005-09-07 (UTC)
God, you're creepy lookin'. I'm not sure I minded your criticism of me, but I am happy you figured out whatever was troubling you. -- Jowfair 15 September 2005
Varangians
editPlease take a look at recent developments of a certain anon under accounts user:213.216.199.2 and user: 213.216.199.10 in Varangian and Cwen.
I admit I am not an expert, but I still find it strange that I have never ever read about this before. What is it? a new theory? An elaborate hoax? This anon removed the tag of user:Foofy ("not verified"), but didn't provide any sources or ext links. This makes me extremely suspicious. mikka (t) 18:48, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

WikiProject Latin
editI am not sure whether you are familiar with a WikiProject or not (a description can be found here) but I'm planning on starting one for the Latin language. This is mainly because Latin is and has been such an important language in the history of western civilization but the article is only rated a 'C'. If you support my proposal then please sign your name on the proposal page here. 95jb14 (talk) 15:04, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Native Latin Speaker?
