Thank you very much for the message or lessons, for they are really lessons for me. Because I am new to the Wikipedia in creating Articles. I have to learn a lot from it to contribute qualitative and quantitative articles. And so thank you very much for the links sent to me. A Small Doubt

edit

Dear Just a guy from the KP, I am wondered that somebody can divert a written article in their authenticity or Page Creator due to a small change of a spelling! How good enough, why wouldn't you mention the same in my talk page, brother? Olickal Peter Thomas (talkcontribs) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.235.51.130 (talk) 07:19, 2 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi @Olickal Peter Thomas:. I'm not sure what you're asking, or trying to say. I've been fixing typos (especially improper units of measurement) by searching for common typos (e.g. k.m. or kms, which should be km or kilometres). I also fix grammatical errors, dead links, etc. when I notice them. This doesn't change the Page Creator of those articles, and I hope my work is improving those articles. Hope that helps! Hi, Please note MOS:PMC: "However, trivial spelling and typographic errors should simply be corrected without comment (for example, correct basicly to basically and harasssment to harassment), unless the slip is textually important." For example, "amd" should almost always be just changed to "and" rather than "amd [sic]" even if the original document has this trivial typo. Cheers. Zerotalk 08:56, 14 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Upto

edit

Hi, is this really necessary? The cite has been copied to numerous articles but my copy of the actual book says up to anyway. Googling it shows both spellings but you need to bear in mind that the articles you are editing are written using Indian English and both forms are valid. - Sitush (talk) 17:12, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

In fact, I think you are going to have to revert an awful lot of your recent edits for that reason, ie: WP:MOSTIES. - Sitush (talk) 17:13, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Sitush. I wasn't aware that upto was an accepted spelling in Indian English. After some Google searches (both before I started my edits, and after receiving your message), I couldn't find anyone who says upto is a valid spelling. In the case of the article you mentioned, I had searched for the book name and according to Google Books the spelling in the title is "upto", so I added the [sic]. In the recent cases where I've added [sic] for upto, I did so to recognize that it was misspelled (as I understood) but was spelled that way in a book title or article title. Just a guy from the KP (talk) 18:56, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps you did not Google well or far enough? Eg: by far the most reliable newspaper in India and here, a mainstream book publisher. In any event, don't you think it is a bit specious - I could go round putting [sic] against every use of color or defense but I realise that it is a valid spelling in some parts of the world. - Sitush (talk) 21:50, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sitush, I guess I was thinking of dictionary entries, not newspaper articles. I've found entries for color/colour and defense/defence in every dictionary I've checked, but I don't see entries for upto (except, ironically, in Wiktionary).
At the end of the day, I assume we both want to do what's best, and in this case I will defer to your knowledge of English in India. I will revert all of the [sic] entries for the word upto I've made over the past couple days. Just a guy from the KP (talk) 02:05, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
