Welcome
editWelcome!
Hello, Jwpwhite, and welcome to Wikipedia! I have noticed that you are fairly new! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. I also see that you have an interest in the use of images and/or photos on Wikipedia.
Did you know that:
- Wikipedia has a very stringent image use policy?
- Most images from Flickr, online news websites, and other web sources are copyrighted?
- Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously?
- Freely-licensed images may be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, a central location for images, from where they can be used on Wikipedia and many other wikis?
- We recommend that new users use our "files for upload" process - at least until you get the hang of things?
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:
Spamming
editHello, I'm Ohnoitsjamie. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added, because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Orphaned non-free image File:Tracking the Wild.png
editThanks for uploading File:Tracking the Wild.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 00:50, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Jwpwhite. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Tracking the Wild, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. IamNotU (talk) 23:02, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

editPlease do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. I noticed that you added links to articles you wrote on your blog into several Wikipedia articles today. These are not suitable for Wikipedia, sorry. IamNotU (talk) 22:25, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hi John - sorry about the "form letters" above, but they do have some important information that you should be aware of. I'm not an "admin", just a long-term volunteer editor. I noticed your edit to the common ostrich article didn't conform to Wikipedia's policies, and needed to be removed. The short explanation is that in general you shouldn't be adding information or links about your businesses/websites "Tracking the Wild" or "Chirp Birding" to Wikipedia, because of the conflict of interest rules. Also the rules about self-published sources mean that we can't accept citations of your blog. But please do see the above for the details. On the other hand, your contributions about things not related to your business are welcome, provided you support them with reliable, published, independent sources. I had a quick look at your blog, it's very interesting and I can see that you're a talented writer. I hope this doesn't discourage you too much, and that you'll consider staying on and writing more for Wikipedia. Thanks for your understanding... --IamNotU (talk) 23:52, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

editHello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:Birda, from its old location at User:Jwpwhite/sandbox. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. Jupitus Smart 02:39, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
