Please allow me introduce myself. I am the editor who has in recent years been most involved with the PTSD article. My reason for this is that I treat PTSD, along with DID, as my central specialty, and I want the people I'm involved with, and others in a similar position, to have available to them here the best information we can offer.

I have already posted some of my thoughts about the Postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder article you've recently been working on on its Talk page, so you may have encountered me there.

I wanted to explain that I've changed the spelling of post-traumatic stress disorder to posttraumatic stress disorder (no hyphen). This is the spelling used in the DSM-IV, as well as in the PTSD article. Many people come to the article and try to change this, but that is simply not the convention. Because most research in PTSD references the DSM, that is also the spelling used in most research articles (but not ALL, I grant you - British journals use the hyphenated version, for example, and your citations include a number of these journals).

I would like to offer myself as a resource to you as you develop this article. If you visit my userpage (click my name) you'll see that have multiple involvements in Wikipedia. Dear Tom, thank you so much for your message and your extremely helpful involvement. I want to start by apologizing for beginning work on this article without much knowledge of how exactly wikipedia editing works and of how much time commitment would be necessary up front for an article creation. I'm an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia and I do research on childbirth trauma and postpartum PTSD. In between my research and teaching responsibilities of last week, I simply didn't get a chance to either read or respond to your excellent comments and suggestions -- and those by SandyGeorgia.

As well, I wanted to apologize for not having the text better worked out before posting it online, but instead assuming that continuous editing and revising would be a good approach to creating this article (although in a way, it already has been; now that I've read your discussion and comments, I have a much better idea about how to formulate the text). The other two contributors who posted text before I posted my edits are both members of my research laboratory at UBC, but the text we posted is neither the final text that I believe should be there, nor are the references the best ones to support it. So again, apologies.

Finally, now that I've figured out how to respond and write at an article's "talk", I will make sure to engage in the extensive discussion that you, SandyGeorgia and a few others have already started there. I want to thank you both for taking this topic with the seriousness and dedication it deserves, and for providing excellent feedback so quickly and so thoroughly.

Please read WP:LEAD (you removed the basics that any Wikipedia article starts with in its lead section). Also, please read WP:FN (when you remove a named reference, that leaves others hanging).
