Fair use rationale for Image:Mariner.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mariner.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. There will be no edit war

I strongly suggest that before you revert my fixes again that you have a look at WP:own. Despite your claim in the edit summary, you do not own the article. Before you submit changes you're assenting to the clause on the submission page: "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed for profit by others, do not submit it." Pretty clear. The article as you left it before my edits is a mess - full of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors as well as run-on sentences. It's not even close to encyclopedic standards. Admittedly, it wasn't much better after my edits, but it *was* slightly better. If you want a war, it will be short lived, as I'll submit it to arbitration right away. If you don't want your work edited, you shouldn't be editing Wikipedia. Majorclanger (talk) 23:07, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

No, despite what you think, you're not writing for "for the high school and the community" - it's for an online encyclopedia, one with policies and standards, the most basic of which are outlined here: WP:5. I recommend giving it a quick look, particularly at the "... is an encyclopedia" and "... has a code of conduct" sections. Majorclanger (talk) 09:42, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

My previous comment is probably a bit heavy handed, but I'm leaving it intact as the actual content of it is fair, if not the tone. I've done all I care to do with the article - the other stuff that needs addressed (specifically WP:NOT#STATS and WP:SOURCE) are too big for me to mess with, though looking at the policies would help you make it better.
