Italian Athletics
editNo problem, but why to create a standard only for italian athletes? Ok for starting from zero, just let's collect some other user in order to have a critical mass. Maybe it's a good idea to communicate with the project:Athletics, it isn't? I am always oriented to work into an organized group. --Pigr8 Melius esse quam videri 16:42, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Featured portals
editYou cannot single-handedly promote a portal to featured status (in your case Portal:Athletics) without first going through the nomination process. Therefore, I reverted all of your changes with regards to featured portals. OhanaUnitedTalk page 19:34, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- While you can directly bypass portal peer review, this venue is better for receiving feedback as opposed to the nomination process. OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:13, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- I see that it requires update each month, correct? The ongoing trend for portals is to set up automatic rotation. Take a look at the most recently promoted portal, Portal:Arts. Every time you click the "purge" button, it loads new contents from a pre-determined list. This way it reduces the amount of time spend on maintenance as well as visitors seeing new contents all the time. It also helps stopping "dash and go" nominations (i.e. get the portal promoted, then halt maintaining the portal once it gained featured status). OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:27, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sure, but you'll need more biographies and articles. Aim for no less than 20 each (probably more since your area is broad and sufficient featured/good articles to bring the total beyond 20 each). And you should also aim for some pictures (again, about 20, featured pictures if possible). OhanaUnitedTalk page 17:26, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
- Wait for some feedback first before nominating at featured portals candidate. OhanaUnitedTalk page 15:59, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Article is a stub. No doubt about it. It is three sentences and you know nothing about her except TWO races. In football, rugby, cricket and every other sport it is a stub. Seeing how you originally had it at a C shows you have some ways to go before correctly identifying between stub and a C. Often times it is a judgement call between classes, but this is not even close.
She rates low. Nowhere in the article does it mention she ran the 4th fastest time. Only mentions TWO races. Also, you have to remember all the runners that have gone before. It is often not about a record, but also celebrity. Been at this a long time and this is clear cut based upon what is in the article. Heck, I don't even know if she ran an Ethiopian record or Dutch record. Bgwhite (talk) 09:05, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Sailing Class World Championships
editI noticed you have taken the World Championships of a number of the classes page. I spent quite a bit of time populating these and would prefer them not to be on individual pages. They will not be maintained if they are away from the class page. I think having things in three places on wikipedia isn't a good idea and please search before doing this kind of page change. You can also find this unmaintaned list of saiing World Championships List_of_World_Championships_medalists_in_sailing which I have slowly been updating and moving onto the class pages. I suspect there are in excess of 100 sailing world titles a year as a guess surely we don;t need that many additional pages. I would be interested in your thoughts? (User talk:Yachty4000) 22:45, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Meanwhile, thanks for your previous job. I think that at least for the eight Olympic classes is necessary to have an article (four of the eight already existed). I have also seen the pages updated by inserting the winners of the last three editions and the list of multiple medalists. It is not my intention to create items for other sailing classes. So I would say leave things as they are, in any case is never convenient to have pages too long. Otherwise we can discuss it in the Community Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sailing. And now, whats your opinion on this request? --Kasper2006 (talk) 02:57, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- I am not sure about this bearing inmind if you look at the old Olympic Classes like the Dragon (keelboat) and Flying Dutchman (dinghy) you will notice they don't have there own page and contain far more information. My own view is I would rather have a slightly longer page that is maintained than the data in lots of places. That old Sailing World Champion page is an example of this and probably something you hadn't even noticed I didn't until after about a year of editing sailing content. On a minor note it is a World Championship without the "s" because your showing one title. This brings me on to my next concern the Finn also has a Junior Worlds and a Masters Worlds so your medal table is actually wrong Lawrence Lemieux from Canada I believe has won 5 masters title but I would need to check the Laser has even more titles! I would be interested in your thoughts? (User talk:Yachty4000) 10:18, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

- For the Wikipedia:Article size, I consulted an admin and he told me that, in fact a list of more than 40bn is already considered long (now her we have 82kb, before my spin-off 117kb !!). For example, I think that an article like Laser World Championships it's ok, because: 1) Is an olympic class and it needs a single page; 2) From 1974 the WC was held in many different place; 3) It's important to have a specif section" multiple medalist" for the class; 4) the actegorizzation and the links to the templates it's important; 4) We can descripe specific references and external links. I agree with you that there is no need to create all the entries of the others world championships, we can stop here. You can see the main here. For the rest, I'm happy to collaborate with you. ;) --Kasper2006 (talk) 10:19, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- I posted about the Eliott 6m talk page. I still think having this on the class page is the best place. The complete list was created by someone who thought sailing was like every other sport. It is I believe the only one with 100s of World Champions each year. I also notice you ave created the Laser 4.7 as a seperate class please can we stop and think about this. Maybe we could take this conversation over to the wiki sailing project for other to discuss. I am not a fan of creating lots of new pages using other peoples contributions. User:Yachty4000 22:14, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- I have raised this on the wiki sailing project talk page. Your comments there would be gratefully appreciated. Things like file size can be addressed. Kind Regards Yachty4000
You need to be more careful on how you assess the articles you create. The Ottolina was not a C class and mid importance.
To give you a better example, Mary Decker is rated a start class, but could be a C. Ben Johnson (sprinter) is a C class. They have much more info than the pages you have created. Ottolina is of low importance. Never won the Olympics, Internal even or a did a world record. When you rate for WP Italy, you have to judge against all the Italian articles and topic. When you rate for WP Biography, you have to rate against all the sports people. Also, you have to rate with what the article gives you and not what isn't written.
Oh, people think I'm always stalking them. I'm not, I just look at all the new biography articles that come in every day. Bgwhite (talk) 06:44, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- 3 sentences and a few meets is a stub. That is very basic information. You need a few paragraphs and more meets to go upto a start. There are football articles with alot more information that are stubs. Ed Eyestone is a classic example of start. Ottolina isn't close to a stub. Bgwhite (talk) 08:07, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Um, the article is very incoherent. For example, you list the athlete as a he and she. Haven't a clue what this sentence means, "back in 2011 to win, but after eight years of the first, his second world title" fyi... it is also a stub. Bgwhite (talk) 06:42, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
- There still are some "he" in the article. Also, you didn't fix the incoherent of the sentences. I took a look at your user page and it looks like English is a second language for you. English is my native language, but lets just say there is a reason I went into the sciences. Is this article a translation of another one? If so, could I take a look?
- Pretty much everywhere, a 3-4 sentence article is a stub. Bgwhite (talk) 07:03, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
I think you are going to get sick of me. My wife makes me miserable, so I guess I have to make somebody miserable too. :)
This is minor and you probably weren't aware of it. On talk pages, add "blp=yes" as a parameter on WikiProjectBannerShell, if the person is living. Putting "living=yes" in WP Biography puts a little notice at top about the person being alive. If a BannerShell is added, the notice at top won't be added unless "blp=yes".
On listas and deafaultsort, only use the standard 26-letter latin alphabet. The sort algorithm doesn't use letters with diacritics or accents properly. So, Zandonà should be "Zandona". Thank you for putting it as a stub.
After seven years, I still don't know about half of the little rules around here. When you finally learn one, it changes. So, I guess I'll bug you for a loooong time. Bgwhite (talk) 07:00, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- You still have to add living=yes even if you add blp=yes. living=yes also does some other things that blp=yes does not. Bgwhite (talk) 07:12, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

WP Athletics in the Signpost
editThe WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Athletics for a Signpost article scheduled to coincide with this summer's European Athletics Championships. The article about WikiProject Athletics would serve as the beginning of a special "Summer Sports Series", giving you an excellent opportunity to draw attention to the project's efforts and attract new members. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 04:10, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Regarding your comment here, I think the primary issue with the portal is to do with formally recognised content; the project simply doesn't have enough of it. We need more than 20 articles of this type. A dedicated editor might be able to achieve this within two years. You appear to have frustrated people at the featured portal project, first by falsely claiming featured portal status, then by glossing over basic issues in the featured portal review. Try to focus on building content to a high standard before asking people to review it. SFB 11:03, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
- That is because the criteria for assessing a featured portal are more demanding now. The tennis portal for example was promoted in 2008. Four years is a long time – the idea of a portal has only existed since 2005. You should compare the athletics portal to others which have been promoted recently. I could easily take the tennis portal for a review and get its featured status removed, but it's not a constructive issue and is not worth more than a minute of my time. SFB 11:44, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

The article Gloria Hooper (sprinter) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails WP:NTRACK. Only junior event that is notable is winning "individual gold medal at the IAAF World Junior Championships or Youth World Championships."
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

Flag usage
editHi Kaspar! Just noticed Renato Dionisi and the table section caught my eye. Unlike the Italian wikipedia, usages such as " Tokyo" are discouraged on English Wikipedia, with "Tokyo, Japan" being the preferred style. This makes the country clear to both traditional readers and those with Accessibility issues – while it's okay for major nations, we can't expect all our readers to know what is, let alone distinguish between and and and ! SFB 18:57, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, users can hover over the image to see the country, or we could get to the point at write that country name directly. It's about clarity: the information people want is "what country is that city in?", not "what is the flag of the country that that city is in?". That is the over-riding issue addressed at WP:MOSFLAG.
- Perhaps even more important than that are the accessibility issues - if a disabled person uses screen reading software then they will simply be told "Flagicon INA", which is of no use to anyone. That is the reason why you will very rarely find any flags used on Wikipedia without the country name in text as well. SFB 15:58, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. That is much clearer now. SFB 16:39, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Preferirei…--Enzino (talk) 23:09, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Avresti qualcosa contro i doppi nomi? Saluti.--Enzino (talk) 15:14, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

You are wrong
editThe way I did it is consistent with the other tables. That's, y'know, why I did it that way. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 11:56, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
DYK for Gelindo Bordin
editOn 12 August 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Gelindo Bordin, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Gelindo Bordin is the only male ever to win both the Boston Marathon and an Olympic gold medal (Seoul 1988) in the marathon? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gelindo Bordin. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
DYK for cognitive vulnerability
editHey! This nomination template has been looked over and since the reviewer suggested a hook, ONLY THE HOOK needs to be looked over by another new reviewer. The rest of the article has been surely taken care of. If you have the time to just check it out, please do so. Thanks. Khyati Gupta (talk) 19:48, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Re: Portal:Athletics: No consensus?
editNominator's support is usually disregarded because they have an inherent conflict of interest, especially in cases like this where the turnout was very low. Moreover, I'm sure some of the world records were broken at London Olympics this summer yet that portion is updated only up to May, which failed criteria 1(d) for not updating the portal regularly. It's "no consensus" and does not carry any prejudice for future nominations. OhanaUnitedTalk page 06:04, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Re: Martina Caironi
editCiao, in effetti hai ragione. --Nico.1907 (talk) 09:28, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Adding templates to articles
editHello, when adding templates to articles, as you did at Frank Ponta, there's no need for the "template:" prefix. Thanks! Graham87 14:49, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Il 14-lug-2010 spostasti Lancio del giavellotto a tiro e poi viceversa
editNon ricordo di preciso...il termine giusto è tiro del giavellotto. --Cortix93 (talk) 16:18, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
