Hi Katherine. As someone above mentioned, there is a currently a discussion regarding you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents - despite the name "administrators' noticeboard", anyone can post there. I don't agree with all of what Equazcion says above - other editors may or may not agree. However, not many administrators or editors have commented yet, so I'd suggest you wait before furthering the disputed action (messages to other editors regarding your study). Hope this helps. Also, you might find Wikipedia:WikiProject_Wikidemia useful. They specialize in writing articles about Wikipedia, so they might be helpful to talk to. At the least, it might provide a place to find study particpants without posting on numerous talk pages. There's no disagreement that the action of posting 50 advertisements for a study is not proper. This is not in dispute. Please don't continue to do that. Whether or not it falls under WP:CANVAS specifically is possibly questionable, but either way, mass-posting advertisements like this is not proper use of talk pages. Thanks. Another place that might be more helpful to you is the Village Pump which is a noticeboard of sorts for general Wikipedia information. You may find it more effective, and less disruptive, to make a single posting there rather than multiple postings across user talk pages. Oddly enough, people who are the subject of studies by outside anthropologists/sociologists/ethnologists who have failed to study the local culture, mores and customs sometimes become unpleasant and non-cooperative when these are violated, even when the benevolent and all-knowing academics assure us it is all for our own good! --Orange Mike | Talk 14:45, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

IRB?

Catherine, is this study associated with your institution in any way? I would find it hard to believe your institution's IRB would approve a study involving human subjects when the method of recruiting participants violates on our policies. --ElKevbo (talk) 15:08, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

There is no reason to threaten her career because she was unaware of a relatively obscure policy. Additionally, if you do contact the IRB you do so as an individual and not as a representative of Wikipedia or Wikimedia and you should take care not to indicate otherwise.
