I award you a barnstar

  The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
We don't always agree but I feel your efforts to maintain the quality of the Fritzl incest case article, especially in pointing out where things may have been distorted in translation, are worthy of a barnstar. Harry the Dog WOOF 06:49, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I hope this helps you to feel less frustrated about the quality of translations. There's more to life than Wikipedia.

Sandbox

edit

You're welcome for the barnstar. You certainly are getting the hang of things!

User:Kathlutz/sandbox is your sandbox. You can edit in it to your heart's content, then copy across to the article when you are ready.

Any time you want to delete one of your sub pages, just add db-userreq enclosed in {{ }} to the top of the page, and an admin will delete it for you. Harry the Dog WOOF 08:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC) Reply

How to deal with Vandals

edit

Well done for spotting and reverting vandalism to the article !

However, every time you deal with vandals, you should always leave a warning note on their Talk Page, I've already done it for you, look here [1]

You should also read and study WP:Vandalism

Tovojolo (talk) 07:59, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

You can make it easy by using Twinkle. It's very easy to install and use, but if you want some help let me know. It pops up the vandal's talk page for you to leave a warning with a click of a mouse. BTW, I see you have put something on your user page! I was getting used to you being red. Made your edits easy to spot! Harry the Dog WOOF 18:02, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your continued help, HtD and Tovojolo. I've slightly modified my signature name, is it good wiki manners to announce it or not necessary? Also, I can't find anything on using decimal fractions for units like feet, inches etc. in style manual. 1.70 m (5.6 ft) seems to be ok or does it have to be converted into ft and in? I'm a stickler for details and was also having fun with the conversion templates yesterday ;-). --KathaLu (talk) 05:25, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
No need to announce a change in sig. Your username, which is what shows up in histories, remains the same, so people will still know who you are! Everything you need to know about numbers is here. Harry the Dog WOOF 07:05, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
My user name has changed now ;-), although only slightly. I had not realised at first just how public and transparent wiki is, including the TP pages, and there is no copyright protection to any text anywhere on Wiki, so everything can get published elsewhere. No privacy problems, just didn't feel comfortable with it under these circumstances.--KathaLu (talk) 07:43, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I like your new style.   Tovojolo (talk) 07:16, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks ;-). I suppose once semi protection is lifted, vandalism could start in earnest, at least as long as the case is so prominent in the media. Including inane speculation on TP. I am going to sit back and watch how the latter is dealt with (I would just zap it, lol, I learnt the hard way not to engage in ANY way with some people). BTW, these days, religious affiliation is considered private data, more so than say birth dates, but F.'s is public knowledge. So, like the street name and house number, it's essentially up to editorial decision.--KathaLu (talk) 07:43, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm intrigued: what's this thing about changing Austria to Australia repeatedly? What's their motivation - let's just do something naughty and silly, hehehe?--KathaLu (talk) 07:15, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the personal welcome

edit

Thanks for the welcome, but it is easier to add to talk pages than to maintain sometimes opposing standards on articles dealing with living people which is what I feel you and the other editors on that page are doing. I do not envy the task of conscientious wikipedia editors in working out the right balance.

However I do not wish to edit that article and prefer to act as an unregistered user, while using this username for Talk and the convenience of a watchlist. -84user (talk) 18:28, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Channel 4

edit

I don't know if you can get British Channel 4 but if you can, you should watch it as tomorrow, Wednesday 21 May 2008 at 9pm, Channel 4 is showing a one hour documentary on Josef Fritzl.

It should be interesting to watch.

Tovojolo (talk) 21:57, 20 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the info! I have only BBC1 and 2, and it seems that I can't watch Channel 4 online, at least not live. --KathaLu (talk) 06:58, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
If you go to the Channel 4 website, www.channel4.com, they have something called "Free catch up"
so you'll be able to watch it online tomorrow.

I think you'll find this useful in understanding Wikipedia's policies [2]. Note the part about Ronald ad Nancy Reagan.   Tovojolo (talk) 23:52, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot, it is useful and interesting. I'm pressed for time at the moment, perhaps more later.--KathaLu (talk) 06:08, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:3RR

edit

I saw the problem you had with someone today. Remember if they reverse your edits 3 times in a 24 hour period, then you can report them to WP:3RR and they will be blocked from Wikipedia.

It's a very powerful weapon to use against vandals.

Tovojolo (talk) 08:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reminding me of the 3RR rule. I did not want to go that far in this case as it is about a relatively trivial issue but will keep it in mind.--KathaLu (talk) 07:01, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fritzl case

edit

Hi, I just saw your "undo" on my editing. In deleting the top part, you also deleted everything else I did to a later section! Next time, please delete exactly what you want instead of doing global "undo's". BTW, that point about there being 7 children and a miscarriage needs a source; I never saw it in any newspapers. Yoninah (talk) 23:20, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I corrected my mistake of deleting the stuff under the heading "trial" as soon as I noticed it myself. The miscarriage is well documented. Just google it. It's also in the timeline (in the main body of the article).KathaLu (talk) 23:31, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia! I am glad to see you are interested in discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:Fritzl case#Something weird is happening at the German Wikipedia are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you.   Please do not use talk pages for general discussion of the topic. They are for discussion related to improving the article. They are not to be used as a forum or chat room. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. See here for more information. Thank you. --John (talk) 05:06, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your reminder. I do not think that I use the TP for general discussions. At issue is the biased, badly researched representation of the Assange case in English language media (the source of most of what flows into the article) where due to a lack of knowledge about cultural, legal and linguistic differences between countries facts are distorted in English reporting because important aspects are underreported in English while known to the wider public in Swedish. I live in a multilingual multicultural European environment and are more aware of such issues than monolingual English speakers. I regard my contributions as useful background for other editors to make good decisions about the article. I am not interested in Assange and his legal issues, I am interested in how facts are correctly represented and reported.KathaLu (talk) 08:29, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Time line source

edit

I appreciate the addition of the source. Your edits come across as somewhat hostile towards my attempts to improve sourcing for the most contentious content in the article. This is a biography of a living person WP:BLP, and poorly sourced content should universally either be removed or improved. When it comes to the actual content included, my only concern is adhering to established wikipedia policies. There is a huge difference between wanting good sourcing, and "playing some kind of Wiki editor". aprock (talk) 20:27, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please see my reply on your TP. KathaLu (talk) 21:19, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Idea

Create a mini-project to bring the articles of Neda, Mohamed Bouazizi, Khaled Said, and Hamza Ali Al-Khateeb up to GA/FA status. Possibly expand to include others whose deaths became symbols of war and peace (i.e. Pat Tillman). Would you like to work on something like this? Ocaasi t | c 23:47, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
