Welcome to Wikipedia!
editHello, Katie Henry. Welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions. My name is Howicus, and I've been an editor here for some time. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:
- Introduction and Getting started
- Contributing to Wikipedia
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page and How to develop articles
- How to create your first article
- Simplified Manual of Style
If you're working on creating a new article, you should take a look at this page on your first article. Also, this page has instructions on how to cite sources, complete with videos.
If all this Wikicode is a little overwhelming, WP:Cheatsheet may help untangle it.
If you're looking for a tutorial of sorts, The Wikipedia Adventure is a good option.
And if you need more help, I'd recommend getting live help at the Wikipedia help chat channel: click here to join. Additionally, you could ask me on my talk page, try the Teahouse (a help page for new users) or click here to ask for help here on your talk page and a volunteer will visit you here shortly
Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. Again, welcome, and have fun editing! Howicus (Did I mess up?)
- Oh, by the way: You're welcome to warn vandals how you want, but I personally wouldn't use the "only warning" template for a relatively minor joke edit like this. I tend to reserve the only warning for serious vandalism like offensive images, or extreme profanity. I would definitely advise against using the only warning template if the edit is something that the user could have done accidentally, like removing text. Alternate account reminder
editLooking at your contributions, I'm solidly convinced that you're an alternate account of someone who's previously edited and at least somewhat familiar with our community norms. With that in mind, let me remind you of the relevant chunks of WP:SOCK — you mustn't participate in projectspace discussions with this account (please no more ban requests, for example) or participate in other discussions (e.g. talk pages) with this account and your original account. You're free to continue using this account, since undisclosed alt accounts are permitted for issues such as privacy and cleanstart, but unless you openly associate this account with another one, you'll need to be careful with what you do with it. Nyttend (talk) 21:42, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- I am not currently using any other accounts so am asking if considering this I am in fact allowed to participate in community discussions? Katie Henry (talk) 22:53, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- See the "Editing project space" line of WP:ILLEGIT. Undisclosed alternative accounts are not to be used in discussions internal to the project. As long as you're not using any other accounts, you're free to participate in discussions elsewhere, e.g. talk pages; the only restrictions on those discussions would be if you used two or more accounts in the same discussion without disclosing their connection. This standard is set to prevent system-gaming, so no such restrictions are made of disclosed accounts; people don't object if I comment in a discussion and then leave another comment with my password-protecting alternative account, since it's clear that Nyttend backup isn't a different person. Sandhu
editRevert this now, please. There isn;t a single source in there and it is pure puffery. Please also confirm that you are operating this account legitimately. - Sitush (talk) 11:14, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. - Sitush (talk) 11:15, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- Yes but why are you asking? Katie Henry (talk) 11:16, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- For the reasons that Nyytend mentions above and because, mistakenly as it turns out, your revert at the Sandhu article was typical of those that come from caste warriors, of which that article has many. - Sitush (talk) 11:21, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
