Winter Magic
editAnother editor has added the {{prod}}
template to the article Winter Magic, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 02:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Winter Magic again
editThere are a number of things you can do to keep such derogatory items off the page. Unless there is a verifiable and reliable source for it being called "feral fest", you can just remove the reference as "unsourced" or original research. However, if someone is being exceptionally persistent, make sure you don't violate the 3 revert rule. This is one reason why I strongly encourage you to find independent news accounts of the festival that you can put into the article. Even the local paper is better than just the event website. If someone is persistent and obstructive, ask them to discuss their problems or concerns with you on the talk page of the article. Wikipedia runs on consensus.
If someone keeps inserting the phrase without discussion, there are a number of forums to take your concerns to: Admin's noticeboard/Incidents (AN/I) might be a logical place if you feel it fits. At the top of AN/I, you can also find links to a number of other helpful forums.
You should also be very conscious of the fact that, as "Winter Magic Festival Director", you have a conflict of interest (COI) on this particular article. Even if your position is unpaid (and I have no idea whether it is or isn't), you are still deeply involved and may not be entirely objective about the festival. This doesn't mean you can't edit or work on the article but be aware that you don't own the article; other editors can and will work on it.
This is why, for example, a report by the ABC would be invaluable as relatively objective source material. Wikipedians generally like to be able to look at such source material to make sure it's accurate so online news reports are good for this and often preferred. If you have past clippings from papers which are not online, those will do very nicely as well. Just be sure you accurately say precisely where the information is coming from: paper/magazine/broadcast name, date, page #.
I'm sure this may all seem rather overwhelming when all you want to do is make sure inaccurate information is kept off just this one article. Welcome to Wikipedia. (grin)
Because you expressed an interest in having the article removed completely, I've put a PROD on it with what I think are reasonable reasons for deleting the article. You or anyone else can remove the PROD at any time up until five days from now if you change your mind about the article. With better sourcing I believe the festival is probably notable enough to have an article on Wikipedia. The picture currently with the article shows that it is obviously well attended. This is just my opinion as an editor. If the article is deleted, it can also be re-created in the future.
Well, I've obviously dumped a lot of info on you and I apologise if it's more than you really wanted. I promise to be briefer in the future. Please don't hesitate to come to me if you need help or you have other questions. I'll try to keep an eye on the article if it stays but I have a lot of articles on my watchlist so I can't guarantee anything. Cheers, Pigman☿ 04:34, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
