- Everyone wants good pictures for bio articles, but pictures that meet Wikipedia's license requirements are very hard to obtain. Wiki requires that all images for bio articles be free-use which means there are no restrictions on how the image is used - at all. Very few professional photographers permit that as they need to get paid for their work and won't release their work for free. Getty Images is for professional photographers to advertise their work and for people to buy their pictures. Also we can't use any images for living people with a claim of fair use as that claim means it is impossible to get a free picture which is not true for living people - it may be hard, but not impossible. Sometimes flickr and other sites have candid pictures taken by amateur photographers who do give a free-use release. That is what we are looking for. The other way is to take a picture with your own camera and upload it to Wiki commons with a free-use release of some sort. Commons:upload has a lot more on what is needed, explains the rules fairly well, and that is where images should be hosted as well. It is great you want to improve the articles with good images but Wiki takes copyright very seriously and we all must follow the rules or Wiki itself can get into legal trouble.
