SSSI Designation reasons
Hi Keith. What you need to do is take a look at the citation sheet for each site and read through. Usually the designation reason will be obvious e.g. if plant communities, or valuable habitat types or populations of notable species etc are mentioned, you can tick biological, whereas if rock formations, fossil beds, or other geomorphological features ar mentioned you can tick geological, and if both are mentioned you can tick both. If there are any you aren't sure about, feel free to refer them to me and I'd be happy to help. Incidentally, are you aware that Humberside is actualy two "Areas of Search" - Humberside North and Humberside South? SP-KP (talk) 18:44, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi. Yes, Natural England try to keep it simple on their website - I've got the original source document which sets out the details of the Areas of Search, which shows Humberside as two. I'm not suggesting splitting the page, just tweaking the wording in the intro. Let me know if you want me to supply details of the source document to use as a reference. Articles
Hey. First things first, how was your trip? Hope it was good. Now, I seem to have a large amount of free time recently and I am in the mood to do some serious editing on Wikipedia, only one thing, I don't know what pages to edit. I don't really have any inspiration. What is your inspiration (like what makes you decide what articles to edit)? And another thing, I have ben looking at the article manual (Wikipedia:MOS or something like that) and I have found nothing about external links in the article (like here. This may be because I didn't read the article fully or because it doesn't state it anywhere. What do I do? De Mattia (talk) 08:08, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, yes I did have a good trip, I was without any internet connection for the period so lots of things to catch up on. Inspiration for editing usually comes from interests, something in the news or from what pops up on the watchlist. Often an article changed by someone else causes a chain of thought that leads to further editing of the page or of related pages. On external links the MOS page is WP:EL which gives this link on use of non-English web sites. Keith D (talk) 20:29, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

With deep sadness
I note that you are on holiday. I shall miss your ceaseless and fearless edits. A hoilday suggests that there might somewhere deep inside you be a life. Is it to Neasden that you have gone perhaps? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.225.106.252 (talk) 22:05, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry that you missed my edits, unsure why you are keeping an eye on what I am doing. For information I was in Scotland. Keith D (talk) 20:33, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Nun Monkton and Bramhope
Hi Keith D. I note you've just had a go at the coord for Nun Monkton. Maybe it's my browser (Chrome) but I can't make the coord at the top of the page work.
Also I've just been expanding Bramhope, and the coord was already fouled up (looked over-written) before I came along. I unfouled it by disabling the one which is at the bottom of the page in the source (but appears at the top of the actual page), but I left the one in the infobox alone. Now the one appearing at the top of the page looks pretty on the page, but still doesn't work. I have not changed any numbers or removed any coord text/coding. Any ideas?
Cheers.--Storye book (talk) 21:55, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- The 2 sets of co-ordinates usually happen when someone adds an infobox to an article with co-ordinates and forgets to remove the {{coord}} template. Just removing the template should fix it. I have looked at both articles and clicking on the co-ordinates at the top works for me. I am using Firefox 3.0 so could be a browser problem. Though it could be a problem over the server slowness that is around at the moment. May be a question at village pump would get some sort of answer. Sorry cannot really help on this one. Keith D (talk) 22:07, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Bankfield Museum DYK nomination
Thanks Keith D for the above help with coords. I guess I'll just have to put up with it - though it makes it difficult to tell whether I've made an error with coord templates. Re the DYK nomination - I've done as you suggested, and nominated Bankfield Museum (thanks for the prompt) but I'm new to the nomination system and would be grateful if you would kindly check that I've done it correctly. Thanks.--Storye book (talk) 11:08, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have had a look and cannot find the fact in the article so may fail under The "Did you know?" fact must be mentioned in the article and cited with an inline citation since inline citations are used to support specific statements in an article. The fact is probably implied by the note on childless and the images but it depends on those selecting the items for inclusion. Keith D (talk) 11:23, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have move the entry down to July 12 which is its create date. Keith D (talk) 11:32, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for you kind help.--Storye book (talk) 13:17, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- Update: Bankfield Museum is featured in DYK today, 21 July - so thanks again for the prompt!--Storye book (talk) 10:06, 21 July 2009 (UTC) . . . and another update . . . encouraged by the above, I've just tried to add Bramhope Tunnel to the 19th July DYK nominations - but still can't make the template work. What am I doing wrong?--Storye book (talk) 10:40, 21 July 2009 (UTC) Third update in so many minutes (sorry): as you were - I had apparently fouled the DYK template by omitting a single bracket from an internal link on one of the words in the hook. Little things make a big mess.--Storye book (talk) 11:10, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, looks like you have got this working OK now. I tweaked to display your user name but the machine is working slow at the moment so you beat me to to. Keith D (talk) 11:31, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thx for that - yes I spotted yet another boo-boo. Guess I'm hungry or something. Must be time for lunch. Meanwhile I'd like to also nominate Church Army Chapel, Blackheath for DYK, but am worried that I'll be on holiday and won't be able to monitor it for the extra vandalism that comes with fame. Do DYK featured pages get monitored by administrators in the same way as the full-blown featured pages? The Church Army Chapel page is playing quite an important role at present, with various authorities and groups linking to it as a modern building possibly up for conservation-consideration issues. --Storye book (talk) 11:40, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Unsure of the mechanism for monitoring but all of the pages referenced from the main page get looked after for vandalism as a priority as they are high profile for the period they appear there so I would nominate it. Keith D (talk) 11:52, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK will do.--Storye book (talk) 11:54, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Keith, Out of respect for the process of discussion I have paused ClickBot's operation, as you raised concerns over Atterton. Would you please reply at User talk:ClickBot#Atterton so I can know whether it is safe to resume processing? —ClickRick (talk) 22:22, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Millbridge
Hi, noticed that you had created a dab page for Millbridge and was expecting to find the three UK ones listed in List of United Kingdom locations: Mid-Mn but only the Surrey one appears. Should the other two be added? Keith D (talk) 23:48, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- Slightly confused - didn't create page mentioned, only added to existing one and can only see the Surrey entry in the list you mention. But please go ahead! Best Wishes: Saga City (talk) 09:04, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
York
Good work on York. I should be back editing tomorrow,Sunday. My internet connection is so slow when I am away from home and Wikipedia servers have been playing up a bit so that editing became tortuous.--Harkey (talk) 09:29, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- The severs have been particularly bad, it has taken nearly a week to get through my watchlist because of it. The bot changing population fields in the {{Infobox UK place}} has not helped. Had to switch off the wikied and popups to get pages to load. Sometimes could click to load a page and go and make a cup of tea before it loaded. Still slow last night but better than it has been. I have done most of the easy ones on York, will probably look at the references next. Keith D (talk) 10:25, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- I removed the photo gallery just now. You have already addressed a lot of the issues, thanks. What else needs to be done, please?--Harkey (talk) 15:21, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- I was hoping to move some of the images into the text at some point depending on the final layout of it but did not look like too many holes for images. I have started on the references but not got too far through them but will resume later. The remaining things to do are
- Economy - ABB meaning
- Economy - Regional gross value figures
- Sport - referencing
- Lead changes
- Jafeluv comment on length of history section
- I was hoping to move some of the images into the text at some point depending on the final layout of it but did not look like too many holes for images. I have started on the references but not got too far through them but will resume later. The remaining things to do are
- There is a general problem over the Vision of Britain site that I stumbled across and stopped me on the referencing last night. Looks as though they have renamed themselves and rejigged the site a bit I found this note WT:UKGEO#Vision of Britain URL changes. Keith D (talk) 15:36, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- I added two new refs for transport section so numbering of subsequent refs has changed. I wasn't quite sure which was best at ref 83 as there was a lot of bus info on the council website.
- Thanks - it is slow job going through the references still along way to go! Keith D (talk) 12:44, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
BTW. I had a look at MASS Engineering (only because it popped up on the Yorkshire watchlist). It's a bit confusing because there are actually two registered companies. One seems to be a coachworks and the other a school bus operation. It would seem that the BrightBus company is now more important than the MASS Engineering operation. Should there be two articles or a change of the article name?--Harkey (talk) 12:28, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- That was probably my revert of the shortening of the name contrary to reference. Unsure where you got the name in infobox from is it the same reference as the text as the "ea" is transposed to what I put. Probably best to ask at the talk page as looks like a name change is required at least. Cannot quite get head round the 2 companies and their interrelation. May be someone with more knowledge may point in the right direction. Keith D (talk) 12:44, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- (ea) Not me guv, honest!! Will add ref later--Harkey (talk) 13:03, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- I got the name from here where it has the conventional spelling. But, I can't find any other refs for the spelling of it.--Harkey (talk) 13:43, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- (ea) Not me guv, honest!! Will add ref later--Harkey (talk) 13:03, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- That conflicts with the spelling from the existing reference from VOSA in the article. Probably need a note adding on the difference. Keith D (talk) 16:05, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

More York
Yes, I too have come to the conclusion that we'll have to condense the history section. I see you have been getting History of York ready. Good idea.--Harkey (talk) 15:49, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Just thought that while things were fresh in the mind would start to transfer some edits down. I think we have done everything on York now from the review apart from the history condensing and date formatting. The dates I have made consistent in 2 July 2009 format apart from the retrieved on which I have left in 2009-07-01 format which I think is acceptable. It would have been better to have changed the software for the auto=formatting rather than have to bother about date formatting for every date, but that is not the way the vote went. On the condensing I could not spot anything obvious that could be trimmed. If you fancy a go for GA then put it in we can probably do the rest before it gets reviewed. Keith D (talk) 16:32, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I'll have a go. Get ready to throw my water wings if I get it wrong!!--Harkey (talk) 16:59, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
I thought this (particularly the list and descriptions) might help with the SSSIs in Humberside. Ah, I see you spotted it!--Harkey (talk) 12:22, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Just spotted on the watchlist. I found a problem last night on SSSIs on the Natural England web site there is a data sheet that indicates it is in South Yorkshire & Humberside but the site is not mentioned in the Humberside selection. I may add a note to our list to cover the discrepancy on the Natural England site. By the way any thoughts for newsletter? Keith D (talk) 12:29, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- After I put the free map resource on the WPYorks main page this morning I wondered about pointing out any others that we use regularly e.g. geograph and the lovely one that PamD pointed out for converting excel to wikitables. There's also Vision of Britain, NASA, etc. An article drive might be appropriate at this time as I think we have at least tamed York!! It is sometimes difficult knowing if there is anybody out there, so maybe ask for feedback a bit more prominently (like hit this button to say summat!!)--Harkey (talk) 13:00, 22 July 2009 (UTC).
Tonne conversions
Hey, just a quick note because you restored the tonne conversions that I had just removed from the Drax Power Station article. I removed them because they're obsolete when numbers have been rounded to the nearest thousand or ten thousand and is done in the Drax Power Station article. This was discussed further in Stella power stations' featured article candidacy. Fintan264 (talk) 13:26, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- I was going by MOS:CONVERSIONS when I restored the conversions, I would have thought that FAC discussion should take the MOS into account. Keith D (talk) 14:50, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
External links
Hi Keith, Could you please take a look at the Standedge Tunnels article. A new editor registered at 23:06 pm and by OO:45am has done some 44 edits on it. These are mostly corrections to his own edits, which seem to be viable info, but they include several main body text external links back to his own Flickr page images and through a link on that to his Facebook page blog on the tunnels. I'm not quite sure how this stands with WP:EL and WP:COI so need your experience to see if they are allowed. He has also placed an external link to his Flicker page on the Manchester Mayfield railway station. As for copyright all his images are indicating 'some rights reserved.' Richard Harvey (talk) 08:31, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- I did spot the start of the changes to Standedge Tunnels last night and wondered about the links to Flickr images but could not see anything that prevents them. Though I would think that for GA/FA these type of inline links would be frowned upon. Keith D (talk) 10:22, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- I was wondering about WP:ELPOINTS item 3, WP:ELNO item 11 and WP:EL#ADV - first paragraph "avoid linking to a site that you own, maintain, or represent" as a WP:COI, obviously his flickr images and Facebook pages are owned and maintened by himself! Richard Harvey (talk) 14:26, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Tending to agree with you after looking through the archives, though not clear and no recent discussion. I have dropped a note on the users' talk page suggesting uploading images to commons. See if there is any response. Keith D (talk) 22:45, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- The editor has removed the flickr links and placed a single EL in the appropriate section, which should be okay. I have odne a small copy edit to tidy things up and converted two remaining mainbody text links to refs and also placed two fact tags for a statement that I feel need supporting refs. Richard Harvey (talk) 00:08, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Keith D/Archive 14! There appears to be a discrepancy between the information in The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre article which you have contributed to or edited. The November 2008 Ofsted report and the article may not be referring to the same schools. Moreover, in an article about Heathfield School, Wolverley it is claimed that it merged with Bewdley. However, a website exists for a Heathfield school in Wolverly about an independent school on which there exists very little verifiable online information. There is clearly some confusion concerning these two schools and their affiliation. If you can help with these issues please see Talk:The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre, improve the article if you can, and leave any comments there.--Kudpung (talk) 16:56, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
More external links information please
I still would like a little bit of guidence on the external links policy of Wikipedia. I cant really find out what I want here. I would like to know what I should do when external links appearduring an article, like here. De Mattia (talk) 23:17, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- I guess the appropriate note will be "External links should not normally be used in the body of an article." though it does not indicate when you can use them in the body. I would make the links into references where possible as that is what the couple I looked at appear to be. Keith D (talk) 23:37, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi Keith D. Just letting you know that one of the pages I created, Bramhope Tunnel, is (at time of writing this) in queue 5 here, so should be on the front page in the DYK list maybe tomorrow. I'm off on holiday now, and have asked Richard Harvey to help keep an eye on it, though I know the admins will protect it from vandalism, and I don't know if Richard will be around. If you feel like keeping half an eye on it, that would be appreciated - but up to you. Cheers.--Storye book (talk) 11:36, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Will do when I am around. Thanks. Keith D (talk) 11:40, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Rockall
Keith, how can it be said that the UK actually administers Rockall? The only 'administration' is the navigational beacon, and that was put there by Greenpeace? I suggest that no one administers it. ClemMcGann (talk) 02:49, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- I reverted out the change as it removed the claim that the UK has on it, the administration was also removed in the same edit so that was also restored in the reversion. I was not saying the detail is correct just removing an edit which removed valid information and took out this at the same time. Keith D (talk) 12:59, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK, Keith, thanks. Obviously the UK has a claim. We can just be disappointed at the Danish delay. Something needs to be added on the Danish theory that Faeroes and Rockall are a "micro-continent" distinct from the European continental shelf. For now, I will just remove the "administration" - Regards - ClemMcGann (talk) 14:42, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

- I have done a short bit on alternative text on images if you want to have a go at improving/expanding it. Keith D (talk) 20:10, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Just added feedback button and removed outdated cleanup listing. Your feature is good, I wasn't aware of it. Could we add an example? Shall we mention an article drive or leave that for another time?--Harkey (talk) 16:21, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was trying to think of an example, other than the ones in the linked explanation at WP:ALT, but did not come up with one. It is difficult to grasp what is required but no doubt after doing a few it will become easier. If you can come-up with one, preferably Yorkshire related, then go ahead and add it. May be best to leave the article drive until after the holiday period. Did you see my note on Popular pages on the project talk page? Keith D (talk) 17:22, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Made a first (faltering) stab at alt= text. Please feel free to amend.--Harkey (talk) 17:50, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes.Popular pages list seems like a good idea for WP:Yorks to narrow down a list of articles that we need to focus on.--Harkey (talk) 18:05, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the block. Please see comment on that articles talk page. Regards Setwisohi (talk) 18:18, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi there - This is just a note of appreciation for making the various involved pages do the right thing again. That sort of thing is normally a thankless job, so I make it a point to give my appreciation when I see it get done. Now I guess we'll see whether someone immediately comes along and reverts :p . Seriously, though, thanks for the cleanup work. — Gavia immer (talk) 02:43, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Much appreciated. I thought I would have to leave it part done as I started to get errors as there was some sort of server problem. Still do not know where the cane (tool) redirect, which was a significant article at an earlier version, was cut to or may be it was used to make the new version of cane. Keith D (talk) 09:25, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks from me too. I had done some work on these and then somebody came along and started redirecting things all over the place, no doubt meaning well but leaving things if anything more confused, to me anyway. Your intervention has restored some of my text and I think it all makes a bit more sense now. Alarics (talk) 13:46, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
