Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Sydness Architects P.C., requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Sydness Architects P.C. and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Kinu t/c 23:17, 26 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

edit

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

Request reason:

No idea who this Kinu person is but there is no reason to block my pages or editing skills. All of my references are clear indicators of true information from reliable sources. I have not placed edits or pages for promotional use. All of my contributions are to better inform Wikipedia users and to help specify true events and true companies/identities.

Decline reason:

At least one of the articles you created was a blatant advert. Any future unblock requests would have to address not just your username, but how you would stick to dry, neutral, encyclopaedic contributions, starting with not writing about companies or people with which you are connected. • Based on your comment here, I am associated with the firm. Your username should be about you, not your company. To clarify, were you asked by the firm to create this entry? I would ask you to read WP:COI also. --Kinu t/c 22:02, 27 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

@Keysdness: In answer to your question, Kinu is an "administrator", a trusted user who has been given certain powers and responsibilities by the community in order to help maintain our policies. Their actions have not been improper, they are simply upholding Wikipedia's rules, which we all have to follow. I'm sorry if you feel your introduction to Wikipedia has been a harsh experience, but as an encyclopedia written and edited by non-expert volunteers, we have to work pretty hard to insure that the project isn't overwhelmed by advertising and people promoting their products or companies, and one of those ways is to have rules regarding what people with a conflict of interest are allowed to do.

Since Kinu believes that the second version of your article is not blatantly promotional, I will give it a look later tonight and see if I can be helpful in putting it into shape -- although that still doesn't guarantee that it will pass our requirements for notability. In the meantime, you're probably best off answering the questions that H.J, Mitchell (who is also an admin) asked, if you're interested in contributing to Wikipedia in general, and are not just here to promote your company. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:33, 27 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

@Beyond MY Ken: I appreciate your response. I didn't know the structure behind Wikipedia and I do respect it's proper use. They affiliation with John Burgee and Philip Johnson only made me think that this entry could be useful to fans of architecture since Jeff Sydness, (Sydness Architects) worked closely with both post-modern architects. Possbly a person page of Jeff Sydness is less promotional than a company page. However, the firm has achieved much and it's history and Philip Johnson influences seemed informative for any architect buffs. That was the purpose of the page. Sorry for any inconvenience and I appreciate any guidance.
Just a tip: put your new contributions to this page at the bottom of the page, and sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~) so that the system will insert your name and links to your pages. Also, I have fixed your unblock request so that it will display properly and you will get an administrator response, but I have to say the fact that you were "assigned" to write a Wikipedia article about the firm is probably not going to go down well. As a number of people have said to you, Wikipedia is not a promotional medium. We're trying to build a factual online reference work, and we just can't allow companies (of any type) to write their own articles, the potential for absue is too great. Once of our policies is that articles should be written from a neutral point of view, and that's often not the case when someone with a strong conflict of interest does the writing. That doesn't mean it can't be done, but it does mean that we have safeguards in place. Beyond My Ken (talk) 03:14, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've done what I can to clean up, format and source the Sydness Architects article. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:45, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am new to Wikipedia and didn't know that username choice had anything to do it. I was assigned to write the architecuture page for the firm but not for any promotional reasons. It was a client's request to know more information about the firm rather than the firm's website and because the founder of sydness architect worked with Philip Johnson and John Burgee and they are all on Wikipedia, adding the firm entry gives more information about the buildings done and landmarks restored and also the history with the famous Philip Johnson. I understand that it being my assingment would make it biased but I will try not to do that. Regarding Ken Kennedy, who is my grandfather who passed away, just because he is a family member I can not write a page? I know first hand information and searched many sources on the Peggy Lee website and other educational sources from North Dakota State University and Carleton College that sited Ken Kennedy (Kenneth Sydness) as the Radio Personality that gave Peggy Lee her stage name. This isn't for personal gain at all. My grandfather is dead but it had been published many times that Ken Kennedy found Peggy Lee, as it says on her Wikipedia page, yet Ken Kennedy had no Wikipedia page. As a "free encyclopedia" this website is to add more information so everything can be known and clarified. I do not understand how the Ken Kennedy (radio) entry needed to be deleted when it was sourced with with many newspaper articles from the Peggy Lee website. I was trying to share the information. Please unblock so I can better site and source Ken Kennedy's experience to many fans of WDAY Radio, most popular radio station in Fargo, ND.

Decline reason:

Writing an article about a company on behalf of the company in order to make information on the company more available than it is made by the company's website is promotion. If you can't see that, then it is likely you will make the same mistake again. The article on Ken Kennedy was deleted, as you must be aware, because it gave no indication of significance. The sources you gave made only brief mentions of Kennedy in articles which were about Peggy Lee, not about him. We need evidence that he is notable enough to have received significant coverage in his own right: notability is not inherited. Everything you say is consistent with the impression that your only expected editing is to a promotional article about a company and an article about a non-notable person, with both of which you have a clear conflict of interest.
