Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of List of United States Senators in the 31st Congress by seniority, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.thefullwiki.org/List_of_United_States_Senators_in_the_24th_Congress_by_seniority.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Blanked Page

edit

Hi Kevas123 - I spotted your blanking of List_of_Members_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives_in_the_102nd_Congress_by_seniority in the recent changes cue and reverted it before I realized that you were also the primary creator/editor of the page - is there a reason why you decided to blank it? I'm not sure I intruded upon a constructive edit or not - if so, my apologies! 02:26, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi Kevas! You can safely ignore those warning for these articles for the most part. It looks like you used a similar article as a template, which is perfectly fine given or free license. Only thing is, the license also needs to say where that source was. I can take care of that if you let me know which article was the template. (It actually does make a difference, or I'd just pick one). Thanks for your work! CrowCaw 23:47, 3 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Never mind, I see from the initial version that it was from the 30th. I've added the appropriate templates. In future, all you'd need to do is make the first edit summary say "Content copied from (article name), see that page for attribution" and the license will be happy. Thanks again for the articles! Copying within Wikipedia

edit

Hello, Kevas123.

I appreciate your interest in helping to build out coverage of political topics on Wikipedia. I see that you were advised above that when copying content from other Wikipedia articles, you need to provide attribution in your edit summary. This is necessary in order to comply with our copyright policy and copyright law. Content on Wikipedia is not public domain, but is liberally licensed for reuse. This license requires this attribution. Without it, using the content is not permitted.

Since you were advised of this, you have at least twice more created articles without the mandatory attribution: [1] and [2].

I have provided attribution for these articles, but you must not continue to do this. This attribution is essential.

When you edit, you will see two boxes into which you can enter text - the large box is where you are currently placing the article. The smaller box, underneath it, is labeled "edit summary." At minimum, you must enter a note that content is copied and a direct link to the article from which you copied the content. I tend to use the following language:

Content copied from Article title, which see for attribution

(Obviously, "Article title" is replaced with the title of the article from which you copied.) It is recommended to also put a note on the talk page explaining that content is copied, but the edit summary is mandatory.

All of this is explained at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

If you are having difficulty following the instructions, please feel free to drop by my talk page or visit the Wikipedia:Teahouse. But please do not copy content anymore without acknowledging your source, as is required by our license. Thank you. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:43, 16 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
