Request reason:

I completely understand why I must look like some terrible vandal but as a regular user but never before contributor to Wikipedia I took some umbrage at one of the newer articles on the Did You Know...section. Upon reading the article it struck me merely as an advertisement for a restaurant in NYC which in my understanding was outside the remit of Wikipedia. I checked out the What Wikipedia Is Not section and it seemed clear that articles about small/local businesses are generally not acceptable. I deleted a large amount of information that only served to promote the restaurant (providing it's reviews, listings of items from the menu, celebrity endorsements etc) and left a basic passage providing its location and the fact that it was a restaurant in NYC. I apologise unreservedly if I'm somehow mistaken but it was my intention to protect Wikipedia which whilst I haven't edited before I do use on a daily basis and love dearly. If I've got it wrong I promise to be much more careful and do intend to start contributing to Wikipedia where I feel I have something informative to share. In retrospect maybe I should have left it to a more experienced user to edit the article. For reference it was the article about Clinton St Baking Company & Restaurant. Also, I should point out I'm neither in NYC (rather London) and don't work in the restaurant trade. In short - I'm not actually a vandal.

Accept reason:

I accept that you were acting in good faith and have unblocked you. Another editor has also expressed concern over the quality of that article, for what it is worth. Please let us know if you still cannot edit, but I think I have cleared all the autoblocks. Cheers! Syrthiss (talk) 12:21, 20 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I concur with Syrthiss' analysis, and would've unblocked you had I been quicker. That said, let me offer one additional piece of advice - talk it over first. Lots and lots of what goes on at Wikipedia takes place on talk pages - each article and user has one, and there are some for the project as a whole. If you see something major that needs to be changed, don't be shy about discussing it. Chances are good you're correct, and other editors may even pop over to assist you. While it's good to remove bad material as quickly as possible, usually it can wait a little while - best to be sure. Post a {{helpme}} tag on this page if you need further assistance, and happy editing. Best, UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 12:25, 20 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi Kevin, while blanking the article isn't the best way to go about things, I agree with your concerns (and those raised by the other editors here) and have removed the prose I considered to be most like an advertisement from the article, though the whole thing really needs a re-write. I've started a discussion of this at Talk:Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant which you may want to participate in. Welcome to Wikipedia by the way! Nick-D (talk) 12:27, 20 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
