I protected all the pages you've been edit warring on with Armandeh. Please try to resolve disputes properly, rather than edit warring. If that doesn't work, try mediation. Regards, Khoikhoi 05:20, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Trust me, I am so sick and tired of these quarrelings that I have largely fled WP, as you have noticed. Life is too precious to spend on such cheap squabbles. I can contribute my knowledge in more efficient and more productive ways. I am presently too busy on other fronts to deal with the likes of Armandeh. Hopefully, in 2-3 years time, we will see the results of the things I am doing now.--Zereshk 23:08, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. This is outrageous! Bogdan reverted me on Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani even though that article contains GFDL content from WikIran! And then I get blocked! Khodavand 23:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

If they contain GFDL content from there, then an external link at the bottom of the page would not be appropriate or necessary for attributing it anyway. You were told to stop spamming twice, you did not stop. —Centrxtalk • 23:39, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Excuse me? How was I spamming? I was reverting the mass removals of links by User:Armandeh. Khodavand 23:40, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
If an external link is not necessary on pages here, then why should we leave external links back to WP on WikIran?? If this is okay, then we can remove all GFDL links back to WP on WikIran, okay? Khodavand 23:42, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
User:Armandeh gave another user hell because he claimed WikIran didn't link back to WP and was copyvio because of this. And now here you guys are removing all links to WikIran. So now WP has copyvio. Khodavand 23:43, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
On WikIran, you have copied our GFDL content, hence the links need to stay as a copyright attribution. Here, you have added your own GFDL content, meaning you license it here as GFDL. If you have copied other people's work from WikIran to Wikipedia, please tell me so I can remove it as an infringement on the Text of GFDL. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 23:44, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
First I have only transferred some articles to WikIran. Second I transferred content (my work) from WikIran to the Rafsanjani article, so I request that ALL my contributions to the Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani article be removed as it is currently in violation of the GFDL. Request reason:

I have not spammed anything! Many of these articles include GFDL content from WikIran!

Decline reason:

If you are citing a source or reference you should match what is being sourced and to the reference it came from. Your history of adding links to this wiki to the External links section of a large number of pages makes this look like spamming. As you say "many" I can only assume with good faith that you have added links to articles that don't include content from WikIran. If indeed you are citing sources, please do so following this when your block expires. —WAvegetarian(talk) 23:45, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's not enough. You need to prove someone else edited the article on Rafsanjani at WikIran for it to be removed. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 23:53, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
You can't retract your additions to the Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani article, as the content you added is yours to behin with (see [1]). As such, you have effectively added content under the text of the GFDL legitimately, and you can't retract it. I'm investigating your other contribs. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 23:57, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well then I am going to remove ALL links to Wikipedia there because Zereshk WROTE MOST OF THE IRANIAN ARTICLES HERE AND HE HAS TRANSFERRED ONLY HIS CONTENT TO WIKIRAN even though he was accused constantly of copyvio by Armandeh and even when we helped to solve the problem I guess its not good enough! When the block is removed I am going to contact Jimbo and if he supports your irrational actions, then that will speak volumes. Khodavand 23:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I can and will retract my edits to Rafsanjani BECAUSE THE ARTICLE IS CURRENTLY COPYVIO. See the terms of the GFDL. Khodavand 23:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
You can't. Period. I understand the text of the GNU FDL better than you do. And you can't remove links from WikIran because you still need to attribute it to here - the only exception is when the person who added it to WikIran is the only contributor of the article on Wikipedia. Even if one other person has added any content at all, you need to link to us. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 00:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just to clear up: If an article here only has one editor, and that editor copies his content to WikIran, you don't need to link to us. If someone else has edited the article, you need to link to us. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 00:04, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
You don't know what you're talking about. Zereshk transferred his content, therefore according to what you are saying, we don't have to link to the WP articles. Further there's no reason for WikIran to link back to the WP articles considering the hostility and bad faith arguments you guys are making. What is more suspicious is that this is all happening all of a suddenn. For weeks there was no problems and then bam! And now the WikIran articles is being deleted. Go ahead and delete everything. See WP:BIAS and Anti-Iranianism. Period. Khodavand 00:06, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I do know what I'm talking about. If only Zereshk has edited the Wikipedia content of an article, then yes, you are right, you don't need to link back to the Wikipedia article. However, and I'm sure there is a number of cases where this is applicable on WikIran, if someone else has edited the article, then you do need to link back to us. And don't throw around WP:BIAS, please. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 00:08, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well at least you admit something, which is more than I can say for others. BIAS applys unfortunately because no actions are taken against Armandeh for mass removing links as "spamming" but I guess you guys consider any and all links to WikIran to be spam, right? That is ridiculous especially since it is another commercial-free GFDL website. Khodavand 00:10, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
BTW BIAS applies also because WP:EL is not a policy but guideline. Khodavand 00:13, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, there are so many Wiki's out there that, more-often-than-not, blanket "bans" are thrown over them (see WP:EL) - for example, my Wiki on my sports team is incompatiable with Wikipedia's extrenal links guideline for the same reason as yours (and I had a very similar argument, but I was in your situation - I know how frustrating it is, but you have to trust me on this one). I appreciate your concern over WP:BIAS, and I acknowledge that many marginalised topics related to Iran suffer from it. However, we can't open the floodgates, which means your links aren't allowed in.
Please, I'm begging you, observe what I said above about linking to Wikipedia from WikIran for GFDL attribution. My Wiki was nearly closed down because of a similar problem, but I rectified it using a similar template as yours. Just remember that if anyone else has contributed to the Wikipediaarticle, the template needs to be there on WikIran; if the version that was copied to WikIran from Wikipedia was totally the author's (as you noted above), then yes, there's no requirement for the template.
I'm sorry that things got a little bit heated, but there is a convention on both linking to other Wiki "forks" and also attribution back to Wikipedia on articles, and it is generally required that you follow them. I'm sorry for any angst caused by miscommunication and misunderstanding each other. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 00:18, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rafsanjani

edit

I know nothing about Rafsanjani having anything to do with the US Democrats.

Regarding his assets, I had heard about it. However, I don't know all the nitty-gritty concerning the issue. The Forbes article states that he has control over Iranian charities and state-owned companies. See the Mostazafan & Jambazan Foundation (Foundation for the Oppressed and War Invalids),etc. and the famous Zam Zam Cola company[2] and National Iranian Oil Company.

I just skimmed the article and I have not particular expertise on the topic. Though, my common sense tells me that the article is a bit of an exaggeration. Rafsanjani isn't the ultimate power as the first page of the article indicates. The mullahs in power all work in concert and will do anything to stay in power and never voluntary leave under any circumstances like M.R. Pahlavi.

I am sorry that I wasn't able present anything that would be novel or hard-to-find.--Patchouli 05:55, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Would you consider closing the AfD if we agree to change the name of the article? Have you edited this article before, it appears like you haven't. Best wishes, Travb (talk) 18:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/US Democratic Party-Iranian fundraising controversy
I know that you probably don't deserve my support, since you attempted to delete an article that I worked on so much, but I would suggest that you read over some of my tactics on the past Allegations of state terrorism by United States of America deletions.
You have little hope of saving this article at this point. Your only hope is no consensus.
You need to let more people know about this article on wikipedia, in the hope that some will be sympathetic to the article. Don't ever, ever, ever, ever encourage people how to "vote". Don't use the word vote, simply say that you would like peoples opinion. I would suggest policy pages only, not user pages. Ask a question about AfD on WP:Village Pump etc.
I see no problem with you contacting editors who have edit the page before, I think this should be policy, but it is not.
Cut and paste the page before the deletion. You can then work on the page off wiki, then resubmit it.
You need to know wikipolicy, if you don't I don't want to help you learn it. You need to use wikipolicy to convince other editors, who will only read about two sentences of this AfD, why this article should remain.
You need to counter ever single one of the arugments those who want to delete this article bring up, using wikipolicy and not violating civility rules.
I don't think I want to help you anymore than this. You already violated WP:POINT according to User_talk:Doc_glasgow in deleting the allegations article.
ASAP when you read this message, post a message on WP:ANI about this AfD. It appears like you are a newb. You need help. Ask people for help. Say you are a new editor, and need help, please. Don't rant, be humble and pathitic in your message, don't accuse anyone of anything, talk about your feelings and how you are helpless. Maybe some admin will feel sorry for you and help you.Best wishes, Travb (talk) 19:22, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Keeping the US-Iranian fundraising controversy article alive

edit

If you want to keep the US-Iranian fundraising controversy article, I would like to make a few suggestions.

  1. Limit yourself to what is verifiably true, rather than what you see as The Truth. Scholastic restraint is a mark of good discourse.
  2. Find different sources. The partisan nature of the sources you cite makes your article immediately quesitonable in the eyes of scholars. If these events did occur and are truly notable, other sources must have printed something about them.
  3. Do not use Wikipolicy as a bludgeon. It just turns people against you, and violates the assumption of good faith that Wikipedia is based on.

Those three steps might go a long way in my opinion, to stop the deletion of the article. The article might no longer be the great condemnation of what you see as a great wrong, but that is still better than being nothing at all.--Primal Chaos 13:03, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your message: While I appreciate your frustration on the matter, and can certainly sympathize, a willingness to compromise before accusing bias at people may have been more productive. If you confront others, they in turn confront you. If you compromise with others, they in turn compromise with you. Nowhere is this more true than on an Internet discussion.
And the key to compromise is not fighting tooth and nail for every word, and listening to what others have to say. Wikipedia does work with everyone assumes good faith on the part of others. I hope this is a lesson that helps both of us in the future.--Primal Chaos 13:41, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Persian names

edit

I wish to know the original Pesian names of the following Persian saints from the court of Shapur II martyred by Shapur II. In orthodox church we use only their Greek translations. Can you translate them back into Persian from English?

As is often the case in church hymns, there is a play on the meanings of these Persian saints' names here. Acindynus means "unimperilled"; Pegasius is derived from pegazo--"to gush forth"; Aphthonius is derived from aphthonos-"abundant"; Elpidephorus means "hope-bearing"; Anempodistus means "unhindered." These are all Greek translations of their Persian names.

It is important to me becase my two twin boys were born on their day (in Orthodox church we celebrate their memory Nov 15) and so they appear to be heavenly patrons of my children. You can read more about these Persian saints at: http://www.goarch.org/chapel/saints/270

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
