Please help me with...Hi there, My article on "Chaheru" was accepted on Jan 2. I ended up creating 60+ versions (in history) and now would like to clean up and delete superfluous versions. I would like to keep 10+ versions, that reflect the updates and indicate the evolution of the article, and delete 50 or so older versions. Q: Should I go ahead and delete the text in each version of the article to be deleted and save? And will it be removed from the history by Wikipedia Administrator? To delete on my own, I coded two older versions of the article with 'db-g7', and 'db-userreq', but nothing happened. Both continue to show up with the change, in the history. What can I do to clean up the history?

- In short, you can't do anything to clean up the page history. Admins could, theoretically, but revision deletion is only used in specific circumstances, not just for "cleanup of the history" (and the history would still show that there once were edits, they'd just become inaccessible). To avoid similar issues from now on, you may want to use the preview before saving an edit to make sure the text you save indeed is what you want it to be. Huon (talk) 20:04, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)You are stuck with all the versions, that's the Wikipedia system. There is no way to actually delete anything in Wikipedia, it's all still there. Yes, entries can be hidden, but you need to have a very good reason to do so, and the page logs show every action of that process and how many revisions are removed from the public eye (and people get suspicious wondering why edits have been hidden...). Most Wikipedia pages get thousands of revisions as time goes on. Ronhjones (Talk) 20:09, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
