Guideline and policy news
- An RfC proposing an off-wiki LTA database has been closed. The proposal was broadly supported, with further discussion required regarding what to do with the existing LTA database and defining access requirements. Such a tool/database formed part of the Community health initiative's successful grant proposal.
- Some clarifications have been made to the community banning and unblocking policies that effectively sync them with current practice. Specifically, the community has reached a consensus that when blocking a user at WP:AN or WP:ANI, it is considered a "community sanction", and administrators cannot unblock unilaterally if the user has not successfully appealed the sanction to the community.
- An RfC regarding the bot policy has closed with changes to the section describing restrictions on cosmetic changes.
Technical news
- Users will soon be able to blacklist specific users from sending them notifications.
Miscellaneous
- Following the 2017 elections, the new members of the Board of Trustees include Raystorm, Pundit and Doc James. They will serve three-year terms.
Can you help verify translations of articles from Spanish

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Spanish to English Wikipedia?
This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Spanish article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Spanish, using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Spanish. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.
If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Spanish article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)

Hi,
I am writing on behalf of Priyanka and requesting reinstatement of the page. - agree, we need Chinese worse than Spanish at this point. Though there's lots of Spanish if you prefer it for some reason. I think you already re-translated the ones above, though, didn't you? Sorry, I am just now getting the tracking caught up. No need to reply if you did; I am going through and recording pass/fail results so I will find the comments if you made them. Recent changes
- You can see new files on Special:NewFiles. You can now pick which dates you want to see files from. [1]
- When you read Wikipedia on a mobile device the first paragraph now comes before the infobox. [2]
- You can now remove navigation elements from your results when you search. This could for example be part of an infobox that is only there to help you find the previous or next article. [3]
- New users on Wikivoyages and Wikipedias (except French, English and German) now get a notification when a page they created is connected to Wikidata. Other wikis will get it 13 June. [4]
Problems
- The MediaWiki version from two weeks ago was rolled back. It was fixed late last week. Changes that were planned to go out last week did not happen. [5]
Changes this week
- Wikimedia wikis can show fewer links to articles in other languages. This is to make it easier to find the languages likely to be useful to the reader or editor. Everyone can still click to see the full list. Logged-in users who use the compact language links will see languages they have in their Babel box on their user page in the first, shorter list. You can turn the compact language list off or on in your preferences. [6]
- You can choose what dates to look at when you look at a user's contributions. [7]
- When you click on your watchlist in the mobile view you get a list of all pages in the watchlist instead of the latest changes to them. Logged-in users with at least ten edits will now get the latest changes instead. [8]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 June. It will be on all wikis from 8 June (calendar).
String comparisons in Scribunto modules are now always done case-insensitively by byte order. Before they were sometimes in a case-sensitive US-English collation order. This could break some modules. [9]

Future changes
- The 2006 wikitext editor will be removed the week of 27 June. This is the old toolbar with small square blue buttons. You can see a picture of it. 0.03% of active Wikimedia editors use this old tool. They will not see a toolbar at all. [10][11]
- Wikimedia wikis use OCG to create PDFs. The OCG code has a lot of problems and will stop working. It has to be replaced. An alternative is Electron. You can tell the developers what you need the PDF service to be able to do. Electron already works on German Wikipedia. It will be on English Wikipedia later this week so you can test it there too. - The Architecture Committee will change and get a new name. You can read and comment on the draft that describes the new committee.

Regarding the Recent Page Deletion for Singaporean Child Actors

This is regarding the recent deletion of articles relating to child actors of Singapore. I believe that those articles could have been left as it is, as most them have been notable as child actors even years back. I think being a "child actor" is a recommendable contribution, even if they had grown out of it (which cannot be prevented, they cannot be a child actor forever). To delete those articles, in my opinion, is to completely disregard their contributions as young performers. I think we cannot completely deny their achievements in the past even if they had gone down a different path. It

To add on, I can see some of these pages have had a recent update in recent time. They were not exactly inactive pages.
I really do think that there is value in keeping the pages for these respective child actors in the light and recognition of what they have did during their time. I have followed them since I was young and I do not want their contributions to Singapore dramas be forgotten.

It is very unfortunate that the user DerrickTanJCW was constantly pushing for the deletions of all our child actor's articles. Thank you for listening to me before. I had posted a message on DerrickTanJCW's talk page as a rebuttal to his reasons for deleting all these precious Singaporean articles. I was unable to join in the deletion discussion. I highly doubt that he will reply to his talk page - he seem to have been really dead bent on removing all these articles for some unknown reason.
I know for one that those who said to KEEP these articles already made their point. However, only DerrickTanJCW is the one ordering the deletion of these articles. I can conclude that in order to appease DerrickTanJCW and stop his walloftext replies (which I can see includes a very defiant attitude), the editors had to make a hasty decision to remove all the precious articles some of us tried to protect.
As I mentioned, these child actors will not be child actors forever. At the time when they were child actors, there were no such thing as social media, or the wide use of internet. All the information, articles, interviews I have of them are on print media such as magazines, newspapers, pamphlets etc. (before 2010). It is just unjust for these articles to be removed on such a weak basis of them not finding any information on these actors as of now, as there are tons of pages about them in their peak as child actors.
Like I said, they cannot be child actors forever, some of them moved on, but their achievements should be recorded and not forgotten, and not just limited to the media of their time. I am powerless to stop it. I really hope that I can allow the other editors to think upon this point, as I feel like only DerrickTanJCW is forcing the delete despite having multiple objections to the deletion, so to me it was pretty unfir to have deleted the articles based on vote.
I am also voicing out my grievances right now.
I really hope to keep the prime of the Singapore media alive through this. If you could lend me your help, I will be the most grateful.
I am sorry to trouble you all the time, even when it is not your concern.

- First of all, the reason why I didn't want to reply you on my talk page is because I am very sick of dealing with people like you who have absolutely no idea of the regulations and guidelines of Wikipedia and are ever adamant of keeping articles of these non-notable individuals based on your own discretion, refusing to acknowledge the fact that these individuals are indeed not notable locally. I feel like whatever I've said to DragTian is enough, and I do not want to repeat everything again like a broken recorder. And also, I cannot take you seriously because you do not have a registered account and your IP address changes everytime you leave/edit a message on my talk page.
- I suggest you go read up on how Wikipedia works and do some research before you bombard nonsense on another user's talk page. Previously on Regene Lim's first AfD, the Wikipedia pages were soft-deleted because it has very little discussion and the AfD was closed at King of Hearts's discretion and best judgement. Pages that are soft-deleted can be easily restored for any reason on request. It is not that he was "listening to you before" and agreed with you that the deletion was unjustified. He restored all the pages because you requested it and this is how the soft deletion works. Even if you provided an invalid reason, it will still be restored. So, get your facts right.
- It's funny that you said I am "really dead bent on removing all these articles for some unknown reason" and you "know for one that those who said to KEEP these articles already made their point". Are you sure that the person who supported to keep the article has made his point? Really? I refuted ALL his arguments points which are basically senseless and non-factual (note: he lied thrice). The reason why I am "dead bent on removing all these articles" is because the person was unable to convince me that I am wrong and should not have raised the deletion request? What's wrong with me being "dead bent"? Why can't I be "dead bent" in my stand and beliefs? Are you saying that I should take in and accept whatever nonsense the other person has pointed out, so I don't appear as "dead bent"? I am "dead bent" because I stand by my proposition and arguments, and I was like this all the way because the other person has failed to counter my arguments and all his points were invalid. And can I say that throughout the whole discussion, he is the ONLY ONE that opposed to the deletion, whereas there were FOUR editors (including myself) who supported the deletion? Stop making sound like as if I was the only one that has caused the deletion of the pages because apparently there are others who also supports my proposition.
- And mind you, when you said "the editors had to make a hasty decision to remove all the previous articles some of us tried to protect" because of my "walloftext replies", you are seriously doubting their professionalism as a Wikipedia regulator. I wouldn't be surprised if they find this offensive because I seriously do. For the record, my replies can be a length of a novel but if they don't make any sense, they can choose to reject it. In fact, they can choose not to read it and just provide their own input in the AfD. They did their own research on the child actors, and they were given ample amount of time to do so. It was agreed among four editors that the child actors failed WP:GNG. That's it. And why do you think it was a hasty decision? Is anyone rushing here? No one was rushing! No one was pressurized to give their own input and close the AfD as soon as possible. It's funny how you are assuming things on your own because none of this has actually happened. As a Wikipedia editor, credibility is extremely important and at this point I have no idea how much credibility you have, and this makes me very worried.
- With regards to your argument on "At the time when they were child actors, there were no such thing as social media, or the wide use of internet". I have to say most of the child actors whose pages were deleted are actually very recent child actors, and I don't think at the time when they were acting it was actually the time when there was no social media or wide use of internet. Please stop trying to mislead others and put up non-factual claims.
- And again, we are talking about the notability of the child actors here. Let's just be very very very honest, which of the child actors whose pages are deleted are actually really notable in Singapore? You can't just want to keep their pages all because you want to recognised for their efforts and achievements? And what kind of achievements are you talking about here? Appearing on national television? Winning a not-so-prestigious or not-so-well-known award? Really? I understand that you want to recognise them as child actors, but please understand that Wikipedia is probably not the place to do so. We only create articles for notable individuals here, people that would garner the interest of the general public because of their notability. This is not a place for you to create articles for random Tom, Dicks, and Harrys which only little people (or even none) knows about, just because you want to "recognise" them. It's obvious all these are based on your discretion and if I want to be brutally honest, you are just being selfish and refused to think about how these articles of non-notable individuals would clutter on Wikipedia. All these articles would just encourage more people to create more articles of non-notable individuals and it makes the regulating of Wikipedia pages even more difficult. Please kindly spare a thought for the others, and not just care about what you personally think.
- And it makes my blood boil when you said that I am "forcing the delete despite having multiple objections to the deletion". Let me reitterate: I DID NOT force the deletion, three other editors agreed that the child actors failed WP:GNG and their pages should be deleted, and all the "multiple objections" came from one single person. So stop trying to put me in the bad spot. And if you still have no idea, the result of AfD is determined by voting. This is how Wikipedia works. And I see nothing wrong with this, because we go by the majority. How is this "unfair"? Is it only "fair" when we listened to you and only when we listen to you then you considered it to be fair? - Some wikis have the larger and brighter OOjs UI edit page buttons. When you write an edit summary there you can now see how many bytes you have left before the summary is too long. [13]
- When you search on Wikipedia you can now find pages on other Wikimedia projects that could be relevant. You see them next to the search results. [14]

 Join us for an evening of social Wikipedia editing at the Museum of Modern Art Library's third annual Wiki Loves Pride Edit-a-thon, during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to LGBT art, culture and history. All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. Themes for this event include art related to HIV/AIDS activism and on LGBTQ artists of the African Diaspora as part of the Black Lunch Table project. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.
