The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!
To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own private sandbox for use any time. Perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your userpage.

Keep going!

edit

Ok Kjb1902, You're on your way. You're being a little too selective though right now. Keep on going. What about the other world press freedom organizations? What about other English speaking news? What about foreign news? You'll want to find news articles because it shows "significant coverage" in the national or international media. Do one more search and paste the URLs in the format set out on your user page before running the Reflinks tool or using Lexis-Nexis. Don't forget the RSF!Crtew (talk) 03:15, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Google News

edit

Your Google News search should bring up many more articles about your journalist and so you should pick the most reliable sources from the international and regional media. Crtew (talk) 19:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Lexis-Nexis

edit

Besides more articles from Google News and its archive option (see left menu there), you need to do a Lexis-Nexis search before you can create your page.Crtew (talk) 01:22, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Lead

edit

Write a lead before you create your sandbox page. Crtew (talk) 01:26, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

As soon as you fix your bare links. Use the template at the top. There is a link to the Reflinks tool. Right click on that and open the results in a new tab. Wait for it it to finish (it can take a while). Then copy the full reference over from the other page on to you article page. You would have saved time by doing this first. Now you have to find where each inline citation begins and replace the bare with the full cite.Crtew (talk) 23:13, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

You haven't created many links to other pages in Wikipedia. Put two straigh brackets on each side of a word. Look how I handled Somali|Somalia with a pipe to both link to an article and display the word you want.Crtew (talk) 23:28, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

While you're doing this, go over your spelling. I found easy errors in names of places like Mogadishu or major groups.Crtew (talk) 23:35, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The lead was still weak. His significance is that his case might lead to the very first conviction for the killing of a journalist in all those cases you mentioned.Crtew (talk) 23:35, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Good search for references! You were also able to fill out all the major sections in your draft. Checked on 29 April 2012. The big problem was when I checked your sources, you had mixed up two journalists; I removed the factual errors that resulted from this mistake. I also edited out the last of the "peacock" and POV statements; Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and so just like the objective era of journalism, "Just the facts!"
