"tragedia lirica"

By chance I came across some works described as "opera lirica" and others as "tragedia lirica". The former term is probably too general to warrant its own entry in the List of opera genres, but the latter seems to me a worthy candidate. There are already four articles linking to the term, and searching Wikipedia for "tragedia lirica" returns 23 articles. — In case it comes up, and you probably know this, but to be sure, the plural of lirica is liriche.-- Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:02, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I do know about this (Pacini wrote 7 "tragedia lirica"!). I've got a list of tricky genres and these two are on it (see over on this article page). Unfortunately they are not covered by any articles I can find in Grove. Obviously I could give examples of tragedia lirica, but at the moment I'd have difficulty in producing a description, and without a description I don't think we can regard it as a genre. If you can find a good source that would be great but so far I've come up with a blank. Maybe French genres tend to be better formulated than Italian ones? (BTW I unsuccessfully asked VocediTenore about all the tragedia genres (tragedia, tragedia in musica, tragico, tragedia lirica, and melodramma tragico) on May 20.) --Kleinzach 03:19, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
