Alphabetization and collation

I am inviting you to comment, in your capacity as a librarian, at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style#Alphabetization and collation. -- Wavelength (talk) 18:44, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks very much

What a nice note to find - thank you. Especially welcome after dealing with a particularly contentious editor the last week or so! I see we have some overlapping interests - hope we can work together on something sometime. Feel free to let me know if I can help out with anything - can't promise I'll have the time, but I'll try. Best wishes Tvoz/talk 02:31, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Not sure if you're reading my page - email awaits you. Tvoz/talk 23:24, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Woody Guthrie

I have nominated Woody Guthrie for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here.—141.155.159.210 (talk) 12:06, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

File:Ellis-twick.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Ellis-twick.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. Don't know if this might help

While looking over photos needed for some other articles, I found this picture, and remembered you having placed a request for a photo of Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion;

Guthrie and Irion playing in Bellingham, WA April 7, 2007
Courtesy: Sean Rowe

Rather than screw up either the page for Sarah Lee Guthrie or the page for the duo, I thought it might be smart to ask first, because there are two problems with the photo. The first is that it is really dark, and the second is that the photographer wants his name in the caption--sort of like I did here, more or less. Currently the photo on both pages --that of Sarah Lee and the other of Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion-- is the same one in the infobox. The photographer also took a decent photo of Arlo Guthrie that day, with the same issues, though. They are from the 2007 Guthrie Legacy tour. I didn't upload the one of Arlo --thought I'd ask you if you thought either would be helpful but wanted you to see first what I was talking about. Both pics are CC-BY -- free images to upload to Commons under Creative Commons. Really, it's a shame it was so dark!--Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:41, 19 October 2009 (UTC) Oh! I almost forgot, I'm sure you've seen it, but here: [1]- the discussion of the 2007 album.--Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:51, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

I agree that the photo is dark and would not choose to use it as a replacement for the Infobox photo. Thanks for the link about the new kids album - I didn't know about that! Looks like it's scheduled to be released next Tuesday, so the heads-up is perfect timing. :-) Kmzundel (talk) 01:07, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I thought that you were away or something. I didn't occur to me that you'd only reply here. There are other photos, perhaps not as dark in the photostream of a photographer with whom I have a decent relationship, of Arlo, but it appears his page would require expansion first. Anyway, I'm glad something I sent you was helpful! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 19:00, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

License tagging for File:EllisDepot.JPG

Thanks for uploading File:EllisDepot.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:05, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary

Hi! Since you're listed as a Wikipedian in Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 15:19, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Correct attribution for Steven Brower

Hi,

First let me compliment you on your terrific Woody Guthrie Festival page.

However, there is an incorrect attribution. Under "2003-2007" you have written "...as well as "Strokes of Electriciy: The Artwork of Woody Guthrie" presented by Steven Brower of the Okfuskee Historical Society. " Mr. Brower is not nor has never been a member of the Okfuskee Historical Society. He is the co-author with Nor Guthrie of "Woody Guthrie Artworks" , which he also designed, published by Rizzoli in 2005:

http://www.amazon.com/Woody-Guthrie-Artworks-Steven-Brower/dp/0847827380/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpi_3

You can view his Amazon author page here:

http://www.amazon.com/Steven-Brower/e/B001JS6OGQ/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1

The talk was sponsored by and presented at the Okfuskee Historical Society.

Keep up the good work. Thanks for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sianb1234 (talkcontribs) 02:18, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind comments and for the clarification. I will check the 2006 festival program book regarding Mr. Brower's presentation and make a correction. Kmzundel (talk) 16:43, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of Red Dirt bands

The article List of Red Dirt bands has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced list, full of redlinks and spam links, no sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 23:09, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. I don't feel any ownership for the article for many of the reasons you've listed....and is why I did separate it from the Red Dirt (music) article. Sorry that I am unable to help improve it at this time. Kmzundel (talk) 14:22, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Jimmy LaFave

Hi Kmzundel, Still scratching my head over your revert to a prior a date which negates all of the edits I made to improve grammar, sentence structure and format. Yes, I deleted one, off-topic, meandering sentence about Woody Guthrie and Oklahoma. If you had put that sentence back in I wouldn't have made a fuss. Its a judgement call and Wiki is a collaborative project. Instead, you chose to revert all of my edits because I didn't "discuss them on the talk page". I notice that you are the creator of this article and that you have made dozens of edits to it. But you've never used the talk page, not even once. So you seem to be holding me to a special standard that you don't feel applies to you. That's odd. I don't expect that everyone will agree with all of my edits but reverting to a prior date and undoing good faith edits by an experienced editor with GA articles is not good editing in my opinion. I'm not going to fight you on the edits. That's not my style. But I'm giving you a neighborly heads up, that there is better way to interact with your fellow editors on Wikipedia and suggest you take a step back from the Jimmy LaFave article. Meanwhile, thanks for your participation and contributions to the project. I believe that in spite of this mishap that you are a good editor and I look forward to working together in the future. Peace out my friend.--KeithbobTalk 15:16, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

I sincerely apologize if my edit was offensive and appreciate that you recognize me as being a good editor. It seemed to be that quite a bit of my good faith work/research was removed, but I may have been mistaken. Like you, I don't plan to start any edit wars. My objective is always to improve articles and that's what I thought I was doing. Again I apologize if my actions were offensive. Kmzundel (talk) 16:33, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Kmzundel, Let's see if we can start over and work together! :-)--KeithbobTalk 15:17, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Article reviews

There is no such requirement. The review process is part of the "Article for Creation" process. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:03, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes, the "Article for creation" process is what I am referring to. When I created articles in the past (a few years ago), there was no review.....so I'm wondering when that change occurred.Kmzundel (talk) 16:05, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Of course I'll help you!

Re: your request for the John Fullbright article, please note that this is the first I ever heard of him, so does this look like him?: [2] If so, I'll nose around and try to find the best photo from a photographer willing to drop their copyright from the photo page and replace it with one of the Creative Commons photos that allow us to upload the photo. Might take a few days. Also, I made some minor changes to the infobox. I know it's difficult not to WP:OWN when you put this much work into an article, so let me know if you feel I cross the line- :) --Leahtwosaints (talk) 13:02, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Leah, that's a terrific photo of John! It would be great if the owner would add it to the Commons so that we can use it. The changes to the infobox are fine with me. I need all the help I can get. ;-) I'm not surprised that this is the first time you've heard of John, but believe me, it won't be the last!  :-) Thanks so much again. And I apologize for any clumsiness on my part when we've communicated in the past. Kmzundel (talk) 14:11, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Linking to non-free content: two separate problems

One problem is that if the item is copyrighted, then the scan is a copyright violation; and our own rules explicity forbid links to copyright violations.

The other is that in this era of Photoshop, what purport to be accurate scans of published material may be nothing of the sort.

Thus, we prefer just a good, solid verifiable citation to a proper reliable source, with no regard as to whether it is available online. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:45, 3 October 2012 (UTC) (not a librarian, but a member of SHARP-L and Project Wombat)

Thanks, orangemike! I prefer to use good, solid, verifiable sources too! I am envious of all your barnstars!  :-) Kmzundel (talk) 19:19, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Delivery day!

I added a photo of John Fullbright to the infobox, and as you noticed, tweaked it a little bit. I also uploaded another of him to Wikimedia Commons in a different black and white photo version from the same photographer in The Netherlands. Glad I could help! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 03:25, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Leah, you rock!! Thank you so much! What a terrific photo you managed to snag....one that genuinely captures John's image. I absolutely love it! :-) If there's anything I can ever help you with, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks again. Kmzundel (talk) 12:44, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
My fav [3] :-) --KeithbobTalk 16:03, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks!

Your kindness has really touched me! Thanks! If you ever need photos, I will do my best to provide them! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:14, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Erelli

Hi Kmz, I made some copy edits yesterday. Are they helpful? Or am I just annoying you? Let me know as I have plenty of other things I can do if I'm just in the way :-) --KeithbobTalk 16:03, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Not annoying at all.....although, I do think the sentence about the shows at the Royal Albert Hall with Josh Ritter was appropriate for the lead. With your approval, I will re-insert. Please do use your time and energy for other things. I made much more progress on the Erelli article than I ever expected to accomplish in two days. I was feeling very overwhelmed initially.  :-) I truly appreciate your willingness to help me. Kmzundel (talk) 16:17, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
You can re-insert I suppose...... just keep in mind that the lead should summarize the entire article. Glad you are making such good progress :-) Cheers! --KeithbobTalk 00:45, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
If my plan to add a section on his touring/live shows materializes, it will be more relevant. Thank you so much for your kind words and generosity of spirit. Kmzundel (talk) 13:53, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

A sweet treat in recognition of your valiant efforts to rescue the Mark Erelli article--KeithbobTalk 19:06, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

Wow! I am honored by your recognition - the first I've ever received here! So much prettier than a barnstar! :-) Thank you! Kmzundel (talk) 15:22, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Your welcome, just don't get any crumbs on my carpet :-) --KeithbobTalk 17:08, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Plagiarism

I'm sure this is an innocent mistake but I thought I would bring it to your attention so it doesn't cause problems for you in the future. The following text which you placed in the Mark Erelli article was taken word for word from the cited source. WP considers this to be plagiarism and a potential copyright violation. See this Nov 5th version of the article [4] before Maine and I started copy editing and WP:PLAGIARISM for more details.

  • Erelli performed in numerous high school musicals and formed his first band, Freudian Slip.
  • He wrote his first song "Hell In the Sky" while a member of Dead Flowers.
  • During his two years as a student at Amherst, he performed regularly in Boston and New York clubs.
  • While attending the North East Folk Alliance Conference in 1997, Erelli met Mark Thayer of Signature Sounds Recordings and signed a recording contract with the company.

I have fixed the text listed above which I found in the section called Background but I have not checked the rest of the article. It would be helpful if you went back and made sure there are not other examples of plagiarism in the rest of the article. Thanks so much. --KeithbobTalk 19:53, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

I can assure you that I am very mindful of not copying text word for word so you are correct that it would have been an innocent mistake. I will check the rest of the article this week. Thank you again for your help. Kmzundel (talk) 15:17, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Good I'm glad you aware of situation. I've learned the hard way that even a few words from another source is considered by some to be a copyvio, so its good we look out for each other :-) --KeithbobTalk 15:43, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
