Resident Evil

edit

Hi KnutTheNerd,

I'm not personally involved, but I've noticed you've been reverting edits on Resident Evil-related articles. It's better to start a discussion on their respective talk pages than to revert without talking. Hope this helps. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 22:54, 26 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

C'mon KnutTheNerd, please follow WP:BRD. There's no reason for a group heading with the name "major releases"; without it it's already clear they're the main entries: they're listed first and without a subgroup header. Please undo your revert. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 17:25, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Really, again? Please stop, I still believe you're trying to help, but you're not listening to me or others and are not communicating. There's no need for an additional subgroup heading called "main series". It's clear as day that those are the main entries. Please, stop adding it back in. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 17:46, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry for the inconvenience that i have caused!. i was just tying to help, but it got out of control. KnutTheNerd (talk) 23:25, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Roberto Firmino, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:02, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Resident Evil Revelations and the History page on RE.net

edit

Hi, I made a post a few months back regarding the inclusion/exclusion of the Revelations games as mainline or 'major' RE titles. I presented and explored arguments in favour of exclusion, concluding that exclusion had the best case for it with most agreeing. You were the single dissenter, but I have to be honest I'm coming round to your perspective. Looking back at them, I think they adhere too strictly to the mechanics and structure of the numbered games to be written off as pure spin-offs. Their atypical release methods and clearly lower production values are unusual for a mainline game, but the middle period of RE was an unusual time. Lots of floundering around without much identity.

In your dissent, you cited the History page on the RE Portal (https://game.capcom.com/residentevil/en/about-portal.html) as evidence that the Revelations games should be included, yet admitted that the you consider the Outbreak games to be spin-offs, which are also on this list. I actually did find this list while researching for my post, but wasn't sure what to make of it due to Outbreak's inclusion, so I opted to ignore it. If the Outbreak games were not included, I'd be willing to accept this list as definitive, so I got in touch with RE.net support to ask what the rationale behind the inclusion of games on this list was (as well as to point out that RE4 remake hadn't been added yet). They implied that the RE4 remake would be added in time, but also said "we are afraid we do not disclose any information regarding which game title will be added or its reasons individually."

So yeah, I'm still not sure what to make of this list. Does this list mean Outbreak is mainline? Can we simply not trust Capcom to be a consistent authority on the matter? What do you think? 82.37.209.178 (talk) 09:26, 25 April 2023 (UTC) Nerd-Binary (talk) 09:27, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think we should be able to trust the History page on RE.net beacuse it is the official RE Website!. It is a shame that they won't say why the outbreak games are included!. It would have been nice to know the reason why they are included. For now i still will consider The outbreak games as spin-offs until we know more.
The Revelations games can maybe be considered mainline side games rather then spin-offs?. It just might be me, but i also find it weird that the Chronicles games are not included on the history page on the RE Website when the Outbreak games are!. KnutTheNerd (talk) 17:13, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
If we're taking this list as indicative of what counts as a 'main' or 'major' entry, then I don't think we can include Revelations without accepting that we must also include Outbreak. I've never seen this idea presented, that Outbreak should be considered main series, but I suppose it's not too strange. It conforms to the mechanical framework of the classic period in a way no other spin-off title does to my knowledge.
Just spit-balling ideas here, perhaps we should assume that the list is accurate to major entries (at the time of it's publishing; the lack of RE4 remake should not be grounds to exclude that game, obviously) and thus bold each of them on the timeline on the main Resident Evil page. However, we maintain the separation between main series, remakes, Revelations, Outbreak etc.at the bottom of the page. What do you think? Nerd-Binary (talk) 22:17, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree that if we include the Revelations games we also should include the Outbreak games if we trust the list on History page on the Resident Evil Website!. I do trust the list.
i also agree that we should bold the games on the timeline and maintain the separation between main series, remakes, Revelations, Outbreak and other games on the bottom of the page!. but i think it will be difficult to convince the other editors to make change this. KnutTheNerd (talk) 00:22, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'll think about how to present the argument. What the community considers 'main series' is totally unsourced and based mostly on perception; at least this History page is SOMETHING. Though Capcom won't reveal why any particular game is included, I think the inclusion of the Revelations and Outbreak games on a list with the uncontested main series entries, while a vast number of other non-numbered Resident Evil games are explicitly excluded (Chronicles Series, Gun Survivor Series, Operation Raccoon City etc.), has to be indicative of something. It's not perfect, but it's the single best source we have.
By the way, I checked the Japanese edition of the page and the entries are identical, just with the order switched around (Outbreak File #2 released in Japan before RE4). 188.30.240.255 (talk) 11:15, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
This was me by the way, I forgot to log in. Nerd-Binary (talk) 11:17, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the late response!. yeah the History page is the best source of what Capcom thinks is the Mainline Resident Evil Games. And people definitely have their opinions of what games are mainline or not.
I appreciate that you are thinking about how to present the argument!. beacuse i am not very good at doing that!. KnutTheNerd (talk) 16:08, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Before I make a post, I think I might actually play the Outbreak games first to make sure I know what I'm talking about! I have them ready to go on an emulator but have a couple of games to wrap up first. Hopefully they'll have added RE4R by the time I'm done so the list can feel even more authoritative.
