Zygi Wilf

Hello. I recently deleted several parts of the Zygi Wilf article and then you accused me of "vandalism" and then restored the article. Let me explain this clearly. Most of that stuff in that article is only partly true. I, being someone who actually KNOWS Zygi Wilf and am good friends with him, was trying to edit the article, but was not sure on how to do that. Please do not accuse me of "vandalism" when I am only trying to help Wikipedia. Please allow me to make my changes to the article, seeing as I am someone who knows him very well and the people who wrote that article apparently do not.

• It might help you to read Wikipedia's guidelines on biographies of living persons if you know Wilf and wish to work on the entry for his biography. (Personal knowledge of the subject isn't quite enough – the information must be verifiable.) However, blanking pages and removing content, as you did and which I reverted, is indeed considered vandalism. Be bold, but please work within the established guidelines. Deleting Image w/o Explanation

You recently deleted an image from the University of Virginia article. Please do not remove portions of Wikipedia articles without explaining the change in your edit summary, and in this case, preferably the Talkpage. Uris 00:32, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm not going to get into an edit war over this, so here's why it was deleted: the caption is clearly NPOV and the image has nothing to do with the subject of the article. UVA people might possibly be offended by both image and text. Also, it was reverted previously today by User:71.70.213.72, who probably didn't know s/he should leave an edit summary. Try a different caption or image. (That's your second of your three allowed reverts today. BaseballBaby 00:48, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Funny how it reached a consensus on the Talkpage between myself and another user, before you come in and think we should all just guess at why you randomly delete things without bothering to let us know via the Talkpage. The image is of a reflection of the Rotunda (UVa's prime building) in a glass of wine, and the caption discusses the upper class stereotype of the University. re: Your edit to Gordon Cooper

I reverted your edit to Gordon Cooper because you deleted more than half of the content of the page when you made your change using popups. Loveline

Hi there. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but those changes you made to the Loveline page aren't vandalism. While they can be removed for not really being encyclopedia content, they were in fact prominent parts of each routine by Carolla on the show. I did revert it to the right version first, by Rglovejoy, but then for some reason I thought I'd made a mistake – so I reverted it back further to the version just before that. Loveline reverts

Your comments and removal of my changes to the Loveline page re: the Lightning Round were not appreciated. If you had something to say about my changes to the Lightning Round section, you could have used the Loveline talk page or at least worded your comments to me about my changes more civilly. Accusing me of vandalism when what I actually did was flesh out the description of the Lightning Round, as well as ending your message with the statement (paraphrasing) "If you wish to make changes in the future, please go play in the sandbox first", was in my opinion quite uncivil. In the future if you wish to critique my changes, I now have a user name so your comments to me will be available for my future reference. Please treat me and all other Wikipedia users the way you would wish to be treated. Thank you.

Thanks for the message. If you had read the message just above yours, you would have seen that I apologized for the error - yesterday. Since I didn't reach you the first time, I'll repeat it here – I made a mistake, and I apologize.

I think you misunderstood the message I left. It's not uncivil – it's part of Wikipedia. The wording in the message is a standard template, and this wording is used literally hundreds of times every day by those of us on RC patrol. All users, including you, are assumed to be acting in good faith, so the sandbox message is given because many times edits are made by new users who are just experimenting, and experimentation goes in Wikipedia's sandbox. It's really called the Sandbox. It's not a message saying, "Take your toys somewhere else, little one." It's a message saying, "Good, you know now that you can edit, and here's Wikipedia's Sandbox so you can learn more about editing, and about how the MediaWiki software works, before you edit an article."

if it was vandalism it was unintentional. please don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. i was trying to explain that even identical twins can have different bo. I don't think that sentence has ever before been said. You may disagree with the point, or i may have done a poor job writing it, but it was not intended as vandalism. Sir Anthony Mason

You have twice undone my edits to the page on Sir Anthony Mason. I changed the words "naval officer" to "Royal Australian Air Force officer". Sir Anthony was never in the Navy (see http://www.hkmla.org/events/0001011.pdf, particularly page 4). The page I attempted to edit even mentions Sir Anthony's Air Force service further down the page.

I can't understand how you could possibly say my two attempted edits were improper - they were both the correction of an error (and a contradiction) in the article.

Please change it back.

You're correct, and I apologize - but I only reverted this page once. I'm not Australian, and most of the time when a biographical entry is changed from 'Air Force' to 'Navy' (or other such service-switches) it's done as a prank. I've been dealing with a lot of genre- and occupation-switching tonight - folks moving the genre of a kids' music album from 'pop' to 'torture' or 'female' to 'gorilla' (and those are both actual reverts I've done) - that kind of thing.

Feel free to revert my edit, and I apologize for the inconvenience. (I'll do it if you don't want to, but it's a good task for a novice Wikipedian to learn, and it's not at all hard. Here's the how-to guide. Also, be sure to sign your posts, on talk pages like this one, with four tildes like ~~~~ .)

Ian Callinan

I made amendments to the biography of Justice Ian Callinan and you reversed them. Currently there are links to two of six books on the page. I deleted the two current links (which are to Amazon pages that say nothing) and inserted a link to the publisher's information page for each book so that people could actually see what the books are about, as opposed to a useless Amazon page that says little more than they do not stock the book.

The changes should be allowed, I can't understand any objection to them, they simply provide more information to readers.

I am not responsible for edits to Ian Callinan. Go to the article page, click the "History" tab at the top, then look down the list to see who reverted it. 'Twas not I.

It looks like he thought your URLs promoted a bookstore instead of going to a neutral vendor or site (such as Amazon.com, which also provides reader reviews and other such stuff). There's a <ref> tag that is used for footnotes and references and the like, and it uses the ISBN number instead of a link to a particular vendor, and it would probably be better to use it in a case like this. If you're interested and have a basic understanding of HTML (as it seems you do), you can find it via the 'Help' link over to your left.

the dropper thing deleted my writing and posted wrongly

I assume you're talking about Dropper, because that's the only dropper I can find in my recent history. I reverted your edit because, as you state, you inadvertently blanked the page. The note on your talk page was just a reminder to be careful and hit the 'Show preview' button to make sure you're not saving something (or, in this case, nothing :) ). We RC patrollers are always checking behind you, just to make sure.

Hello again!

Is this kind of dropper what you're trying to add? If so, take a look at the top of that page - it's the entry for pipette, but eyedropper redirects there and that shows under the title - see where it says 'redirected from eyedropper'? It's wiki magic!

If that's not what you're trying to say about 'dropper', drop (no pun intended) back by my talk page and give me a couple of sentences about what you're trying to say, so I can help you edit it in. Also, a great way to ask for help is to just put {{helpme}} at the top of your user page and someone will stop by within moments to help (see up there where, in red, it says 'user page'? just copy and paste this {{helpme}} tag into the edit box and save).

And don't be afraid about making mistakes – just take a look at all the people on my own talk page who think I've made mistakes. Be bold - it's okay! If you hit the 'Show preview' button before you 'Save page', you'll be fine. And be sure to put in an edit summary – if you're not sure about an edit, just say so in the edit summary and someone will come along behind you and fix it. Thanks for the message. I reverted the edit because there is no evidence in the citations for any kind of police investigation for child endangerment. The encyclopedia can't say something that isn't verifiable, so I reverted down to the last version without a claim of child endangerment. Regardless of your protest, the Yahoo URL to which you refer and the ESPN article (the [1] citation in the current version) are identical. Take a look for yourself.

When published, verifiable reports come out about the actual cause of death, as I'm sure they will soon, the facts can be included in the entry and you're free to do so. add some MOJO

Hey BaseBall,

I added a link yesterday and you removed it ( Logo-Mojo.com ). I felt that it was an interesting section that related to the topic of the page. It revolved around logo designs and displayed many worldwide bands. Anyone starting a business and was thinking of creating a logo would only benefit from the information on that page.

However I can understand your point in not wanting to have sites use Wikipedia to advertise their own web site, I do feel that it was a content related and infomational page.

Having people learn about what they want to buy before they buy it is important, which is why I joined Wik.

Hi - This exact issue was discussed on the article's talk page quite some time ago. If you want to revisit the decision, the talk page is the place to go. I did look at your submitted site before I acted, and I saw that it's clearly commercial. When a home page boasts of thousands of "satisfied clients," it's commercial and not allowed. If yours was permitted, the spam bots probably wouldn't be far behind to add more.

I guess you could look at it like this: your preferred site isn't listed, but no one else's is either. Wikipedia really isn't the place to go to make a buying decision anyway. George Washington Religious Section Deleted

If you look at the discussion section under George Washington you will find that there is much discussion about deleting the section entitled Religious Beliefs. I made the decision to delete the section altogether due to the many biased and ignorant data input by many liberals and atheists. It is a well known documented fact that George Washington was a Christian and was very strong in his faith. There is much evidence supporting this fact and I put that information in yesterday. But, someone deleted all of that information. Please do not put the information about Deist beliefs back in unless you allow the information about his strong Christian faith to be put back in as well. Be objective.

Reno

Nice job on the Reno bio. You are using a dramaticaly different style of Notes than other ACW articles and although I won't ask you to change them, I'd ask that you keep our style in mind if you work on future articles in this space. I have summarized them in my "style guide", User:Hlj/CWediting, and there are recent examples in William T. Sherman, George B. McClellan, and Battle of Antietam. We cite the books in the References section and use the Notes to briefly identify the pages for citations, like real footnotes. We also rarely use See also to show links already in the article. Thanks for the message. I used the style outlined at Wikipedia:Footnotes, but I'll edit the entry later to conform to the ACW style. I want to start another one on the North Carolina Expedition, because there's a category for it but no entry. The Maryland Campaign has an entry, so I was surprised not to find one on Burnside's expedition. I have to do more reading first, and I'll change those footnotes before I start to get up to speed. Although there may be deviations about, the algorithm I use is to separate materials used as sources (including anything appearing in a footnote) from those that are merely interesting additional information:

• Sources: both books and URLs go into References
• Additional info: books go into Further reading, URLs into External links

I'm not asking you to recode the 'cite' mechanisms, which I find much clumsier to code than the format I use, but to consider not using them in future ACW articles. Hal Jespersen 15:46, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

• Yes, I was actually speaking of the number of significant figures. It seems that the OU article had many more significant digits (and they were repeating digits) than any other article (at least the ones I checked) so I just shaved some off. It doesn't seem to hurt the map view at all, and it makes the article look a little better, IMO. Johntex\^talk 02:59, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Reverted Masturbation Page

Tantric Buddhism Vajrayana. Under article masturbation, I made an edit that changed the statement that Buddhism generally advises against masturbation, which the article at the moment claims... and noted that tantric Buddhism has NO such admonition, and in fact, taught enlightenment through sensory stimulation. You can find this *fact* located in the tantric Buddhist link above Vajrayana. You also removed the notation to the branch of Buddhism that was able to produce semen upon demand, without stimulation, and that is a fact, as well. (And actually , a rather impressive, if not weird mind over body demonstration) While I can see removing the "Middle way" reference, it was commentary, the other two are abject facts, and demonstrate that not all Buddhism "ignores" masturbation, as it simply *isn't* true. You aren't posting from an abstinence only state are you ?

I guess we might as well discuss it here, before we get into a posting war.....
