LGBT people from Great Britain
editWelcome to Wikipedia! Just as a heads up, we already have a category of Category:LGBT people from the United Kingdom (as well as subcategories of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland). Unless your "LGBT people from Great Britain" edits are the result of a policy discussion somewhere, you're just duplicating information. --McGeddon (talk) 15:40, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, that's a fair enough argument to make, but you'd be better off raising it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBT studies first. You could suggest actually replacing the UK template with a GB one - as it stands, you're making articles which are now in both categories, which seems needlessly confusing. --McGeddon (talk) 15:51, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Kramer John, I and another editor have replied to your message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBT studies about the above categories. Please bear in mind that the system of categorisation is quite complex at Wikipedia. There are, for example, already hundreds of categories to do with the United Kingdom, not Great Britain, and I am sure much discussion has gone into doing it that way. To change the name of a category, you need to bring it up for discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. It may be that the category you created will end up being deleted but I won't do anything about that just yet as I think it's in all of our interests to discuss the issue. - A further note... please be very careful about adding unsourced information to articles. It is vital that all information, particularly about living people, is verifiable. If you add any information that could be argued with, you need to add references to reliable sources. This definitely includes putting people into the LGBT categories.--BelovedFreak 19:21, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
