Snapped a few pics today, uploading them to Commons first. Storm rolled in, so ran out of time.--Kranar drogin 20:52, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

List

Here are all of the Ogle County Registered Historic Places, I took the photos this past winter for all but one. IvoShandor 02:10, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Which one didn't you get a picture of? I might be able to get it if you don't beat me too it.--Kranar drogin 02:51, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

GA noms

edit

I nominated John Deere House and Shop. I don't think Banditti is ready yet, it needs some tweaks. I need to look it over some. I need another source and it could really use more information about something other than the Oregon incident. Perhaps we may need to wait on that one.IvoShandor 07:07, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

White Pines Forest State Park has been nominated for GA. IvoShandor 07:47, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yep, we can discuss here from now on! Just got in the house, about time for bed. I see they are both nominated, awesome. When I took a look at them today, I thought we were close. Oh, also, once we get everything we want to GA, we can do that Featured Topics. Then we will simply continue to upgrade what we want from there. Or we can wait until we have a FA, but looking at the list there is one that only has two articles in it! I am wondering also, if we can add more articles as we go along? I hope so, cause if we get more GAs, I would like to add them also. Ok, I will talk with you tomorrow. Project is moving along nicely. Let me know if we need pictures of anything.--Kranar drogin 07:53, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
What do you think about City and Town Hall, I just finished messing with it, including removing some crazy bit about how the site used to be the town gallows. Ha. Wonder if that's true? That editor was blocked for vandalism later, btw. It's pretty close in my opinion. Maybe could expand architecture, I have a bunch more information but its pretty lame, stuff like the south facade has three second floor windows and the same decorative elements found throughout the structure. The decorative quoins, and overhanging eaves are again prominent while the attached jail building breaks up the linear outline of that the rest of the facades share. Just gets tiresome blathering on about some building that isn't really architecturally significant, unless you go by what the Historic Sites Survey says which was obviously written by a senile person. I mean:
In 1972, the Illinois Historic Sites Survey Inventory cited the building for its significance in two areas, architecture and education. The May 1972 survey form stated that its use as a public building from 1884-1970 and its current use as a museum justified its significance in these areas
Does that even make sense to you? I double checked it, that's what it says and it really doesn't make any sense but there are literally no sources on this place. I suppose the library in Rochelle or the museum itself might have more information but I bet this is broad enough and well sourced enough for GA, especially given the topic. Sorry to bombard you with all these threads at once. : ) Let me know what ya think. IvoShandor 10:00, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Also, pictures? hmm. The pine stand at White Pines I missed it, that'd be nice. Polo Oddfellows whatcha mathingy. The boulder of death. We need that. I can do it if you want, I must see it, as you know. I don't know, just keep on keepin on and stuff. Doin' what you're doin. Btw, feel free to look over the articles nommed for GA and make any tweeks, I am always finding little errors no matter how many times I go over them, a second set of eyes always helps. IvoShandor 10:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I added a paragraph since the last post. IvoShandor 10:29, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think both of those are articles are ready for GA nominations. You can always add more to them later is my opinion. Worst that will happen is they have us put it on hold until we do a few things that they list. Info prolly would be found in Rochelle, but I have no idea when I will be down there next. I would have to say not anytime soon. I have been making a few tweeks, I click the links and follow to what they go to, copy the article to MS Word and look for grammar and spellings. I will try and do that the other articles.--Kranar drogin 14:08, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I also think we may want to add the Black Hawk War in on it too. Would just have to clean the article up, find a few images on the internet, and it shouldn't take too long to put up as GA. Blackhawk has had a pretty strong influence name-wise in this area. The name is used A LOT. For example, Rt. from Rockford I think until at least Dixon is called the Black Hawk Trail. So, we may even want to include him, but I am not sure.--Kranar drogin 14:34, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am all for it. My thoughts are that once we get an FA (which I really think I can pull off with Ogle County Courthouse, we should go for FT, simply because there aren't many and there is little activity, I bet if we have an FA and few GAs it would be passed no problem. Then we can just use the nomination process to add other articles as they rise to GA. I think our goal, eventually, should be GA or FA for all Ogle County articles, then we can do DeKalb. ; ) Also world domination should be a goal too. IvoShandor 02:09, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you think you can go for the courthouse, go for it! The FT will be of course Ogle County, but that would have to be a GA. Looking at the other FTs, you can have a GA head up the category of articles. So we get Ogle to GA, get a bunch of GAs to go under it, and have the Ogle Courthouse as a FA. Hey, I'm all for world domination. You sure on DeKalb, or would you rather do Lee first? You can choose either way, doesn't matter to me. I would just take Rt. 72 and hit the stuff in the north for pictures if needed. Well, that is about all for the night. I worked on the settlement list, I really don't know what we can do for the unincorporated ones. Figure something out though.--Kranar drogin 03:52, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Lee, DeKalb, doesn't matter. I live in DeKalb County so it really does bore me, I don't mind shooting pictures here but I do enjoy finding new things (and I know there are some in DeKalb but tons of things I haven't seen in Lee). The thing is they are both significant places in American history for one reason or another, so we could go either way. I really do think that taking Ogle County Courthouse to FA will be a heck of a lot easier than taking Ogle County from stub or start to FA. And we can always continue to work on improving all of the articles. I see you saw Amboy Illinois Central Depot, neat place, haven't had time to go into the museum but my next Lee County trip (coming soon) will include going into it and the Reagan Boyhood Home (not that I am a big Reagan fan but I am a big history fan).
Also, we need to discuss cemeteries and parks and how we are going to approach these things, I fear that those articles wouldn't survive AfD, maybe, I don't know, that's why we should discuss it. A few other things, let's see, there are a number of notable sculptures, besides what we have articles on, in and around Oregon, I'll try to compile a list. Oh yeah! There is this cemetery along 64 east of Oregon, going toward DeKalb County, that has a brown sign saying its a revolutionary war veterans cemetery. I stumbled upon it and have several photos around here that I haven't uploaded of it. Do you know anything about it? (My girlfriend loves cemeteries and we stop at the coolest ones we see (that one was pretty cool)). IvoShandor 12:26, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lets go with Lee after this. Lee County actually used to be part of Ogle, but was split in 1839. Right now I am thinking for cemeteries, we will make a List page, which we have already, and not create a link for each one, but a small section on the less notable ones (family ones, etc), and create articles for ones that are more important such as the one you mentioned and the one in Stillman for starters. I don't know what makes a park important or not, so I don't really know how to approach that yet.--Kranar drogin 21:55, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, what I think is that we will run into problems no matter how we do it because simply being a cemetery probably isn't enough, though I am not sure how this has been approached in the past on Wikipedia. I think that what people will say at AfD is that these places are too small and that their parks and cemeteries are just simply inherently non-notable. Now cemeteries that have historical value such as the two mentioned would probably survive AfD. IvoShandor 06:53, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template and additions

edit

User:IvoShandor/Ogle County, a template, check it, I wonder, can we add another image to the other side, do you know how to do that?

Also, FTs can be added to through the nomination process. Though I do think one of the articles has to be FA, perhaps Ogle County Courthouse is one to shoot for, if I split the references and add to it, it might make the muster. Can you look for any relevant information that I don't have if you happen to hit a library in Ogle County before me? IvoShandor 09:35, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I guess we shoot for one FA, then we just continue to build off the others. There doesn't look like there is much for FTs on the page you showed me. I asked for rennovation pictures of the Courthouse. They are fixing up everything about the place, btw.
Are you creating the template for the FTs? We can prolly get a picture over there on the right side, just would require a bit of tweaking.--Kranar drogin 14:12, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, did you see what I did above? Maybe some better colors but its decent and would have plenty of room for additions. IvoShandor 04:26, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Maybe whatever the county colors are is what we shoudl use? Then again, I don't even know what colors the county uses!--Kranar drogin 11:02, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
From what I can tell it's red, white, and blue. But I don't know if that's official. There doesn't appear to be an official seal. IvoShandor 13:19, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Banditti

edit

Do you have all the info on the Banditti from this page [1]?--Kranar drogin 04:00, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow. Cool. No, I didn't. Will work it in. I nominated City and Town Hall btw. IvoShandor 04:20, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
More Banditti County [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]. I think that should maybe keep you busy with some more information.--Kranar drogin 11:00, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stuff

edit

Okay, we could definitely add Black Hawk (chief) and Black Hawk War, this could require a lot more work.

Some articles that might be hard to find sources for and require the assistance of a historical society or two include:

That's all for now, I expect I will add to the list eventually. IvoShandor 04:29, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Since there aren't any deadlines

edit

I figure it can be a summer of fun for us. I started User:IvoShandor/DeKalb County, Illinois and will start User:IvoShandor/Lee County, Illinois too. We can just work on whatever, whenever that way. I will try to get some of the basics in there, assessments and such. If you add any long lists try to set them up like I did at User:IvoShandor/articles that way we don't have to scroll so far down. IvoShandor 02:28, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am posting this here but I will begin to use the other discussion pages, edit those pages at will btw.
I think Egyptian Theatre (DeKalb, Illinois) is about ready for GA (White Pines passed btw so I probably have about fifty articles that would). Would you mind stopping by the theatre page and gnoming it up a bit? Thanks. IvoShandor 10:11, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Same with Civil War Memorial (Sycamore, Illinois), granted, it's short, but its thorough, there really isn't anything much else to say about it as far as GA goes. What do you think? IvoShandor 11:54, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

County Structure

edit

We also have to figure if what Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. counties is the best structure for the county set-up. I don't see why it wouldn't. When I asked the military guys for help with Battle of Stillman's Run, I accidently worded it for help on the county! lol, so a guy went in and worked on Ogle's Economy before realizing what I had meant to ask! So that section has a bit of sourced out stuff, I am going to leave the history and site seeing to you.--Kranar drogin 20:47, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
