Videos as Citation Sources

I have a question regarding the use of videos as sources. In the performers section of 84th Academy Awards list, some users (including 'Atomic Meltdown) want to put the songs (or actually singing about the Best Picture nominees in tune with popular songs) that host Billy Crystal performed in his opening monologue. Atomic Meltdown uses this article from The Hollywood Reporter as a source. The article contains a video of Billy Crystal performing the songs, but the article itself does not say or indicate word for word in the text what he is actually singing (i.e. singing about Midnight in Paris to the tune of "The Last Time I Saw Paris"). I know what Crystal sang is true, but for the sake of Wikipedia standards, is this acceptable?

BTW, could you review the 63rd Academy Awards?

--Birdienest81 (talk) 06:28, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
Hi Birdie, video sources can surely be used as citations, but only if the publisher is reputable. For example, if the Crystal performance is published by the Academy itself, or by any other reliable source, then it can definitely be added. :) I'll also try to look at the 63rd Oscars at the soonest. Cheers! --Krimuk90/ 07:00, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Rani Mukherji's first film

Hi. Hope you're well. I'm sure I wasn't the first to come across this on the FA. I think Biyer Phool maybe a 1996 film not 1992 as stated in the now dead NDTV link. Bollywood Hungama

Hi Krimuk! I need your help. After expanding the article of Rashi Khanna, i searched for a free image and found it at Bollywood Hungama here. But i don't know how to upload a free image from Bollywood Hungama and especially the usage of OTRS. Can you please explain me about OTRS in brief? Or, if you feel it as a waste of time, can you upload it? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 06:32, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply, have been quite busy of late. I can help you upload the image if you want, that is if you haven't already done it? --Krimuk|90 (talk) 12:57, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
I was never successful in uploading a free image. I did not do it. If you can, please do it, and at the same time, please explain me how to do it. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 14:37, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
It's fairly simple. Follow these steps:
  1. In Wikimedia commons, in the left-hand column, click on the "Upload file" tab under the "Participate" section.
  2. Click "Select media files to share" and upload the image that you have downloaded from Bollywood Hungama.
  3. "Continue" and click on "This file is not my own work".
  4. In the "source" tab, copy-paste the Bollywood Hungama link. The "author" will be Bollywood Hungama.
  5. Under "Now tell us why you are sure you have the right to publish this work:" click on "Another reason not mentioned above", and after selecting the button, you must provide the copyright license, which in this case will be "Cc-by-3.0-BollywoodHungama". Copy-paste this license in between open and close double parenthesis({{), and click on preview to check if it's okay.
  6. Click "next", and then simply upload it.
  7. The image and it's license will then be checked by a wikimedia administrator, and you will be able to use it here.
Do remember to only upload images from the website's "Parties and events" section, because they are the only ones that fulfill the licensing agreement. Good luck! --Krimuk|90 (talk) 02:35, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Krimuk! I shall try it soon. But one thing, every random file uploaded from Bollywood Hungama has an OTRS ticket. How to get that? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 03:24, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
We don't need to deal with this OTRS ticket. It's a part of the licensing agreement with the website. All we need to do is provide the correct license while uploading it, as mentioned in step# 5. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 03:50, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks again. Uploaded the file just now. Here it is.   Pavanjandhyala (talk) 04:24, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

62nd NFA

Seems like there is a stiff competition between Ranaut and Chopra for the "Best Actress" title this time. Vensatry (ping) 14:32, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, but if there is justice in the world, the award should go to Tabu. By every right she was the lead actress in Haider and not supporting. Though among Ranaut and Chopra, I think that Chopra was let down by a terrible film, and that might hurt her prospect. Ranaut was incredible, and so were Parineeti Chopra, Mukerji, Dixit, and Bhatt. It was a brilliant year for women in Hindi film, and Bhatt could probably take home a special jury award or such. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 14:47, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
To add to that, I would be very happy if Shahid Kapoor won Best Actor, but there is a high chance that won't happen. From what I hear Mammootty seems like a lock in the category. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 14:49, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
But in the past the "Best Actress National Award" was awarded to actresses who played supporting roles. Who knows, there might be surprises this year too, where some Marathi/Kannada actress might walk away with the award. And regarding the best actor title, Aamir Khan is sure to lose. Wish Shahid Kapoor wins this time around (I really don't want to see Mammooty winning the award for obvious reasons :)). I've not seen the film, but chances are quite high this time as the central jury is headed by our Mann Vasanai. Again, Mammootty was favoured to win the tile in 2009, but eventually lost to AB. So anything can happen. :) Vensatry (ping) 15:13, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
When do you think they'll announce this year's winners? Mid-April? --Krimuk|90 (talk) 15:28, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
Seems like it'll be out in the last week of March. There are a few more probables which include Sanjay Mishra as well. If I'm not wrong, he won the Filfmare critics award for a film directed by Rajat Kapoor no? How was he? Vensatry (ping) 15:31, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, for Ankhon Dekhi. Great film! Definitely among the best 5 films of last year. And he was great in it, as was Seema Pahwa. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 15:35, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

If this report is true, Shahid Kapoor will certainly win this time. Vensatry (ping) 17:29, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Always, those who you least expect, will win. Whoever thought Dhanush or his dance would win? Kailash29792 (talk) 08:50, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
May be, but over the last three years the winners have been exactly chosen from the probables. And, Dhanush winning an award in that category has to be the most surprising thing in the history of National Awards. :) Vensatry (ping) 09:02, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
There were several instances in the past in which the winner didn't exactly give a great performance, but let's hope for the best this year! --Krimuk|90 (talk) 10:04, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Seems like Kangana Ranaut has won it. Best Actor for a Kannada actor. :) Vensatry (ping) 10:54, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Kailash, Dhanush too has won an award for producing this film. Vensatry (ping) 12:21, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

This article might interest you. Vensatry (ping) 06:40, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
Haha. Awards will always be subjective. As opposed to some of our "popular" film awards who give awards based on who is attending the ceremony, the National Film Awards (atleast in the last couple of years) have been giving awards to the ones who are, in my subjective opinion, deserving. Whether they are more or less deserving than the competition will always be up for debate, and several people will disagree with the result no matter who wins it. I think Kangana's direct competition this year was Priyanka, and in my humble opinion, Kangana was much more deserving, and rightfully won (this is assuming Tabu was not in the mix). Priyanka did put in a lot into the performance, and while one can commend the effort, and barring one brilliant scene in which she lashes out against the judges, there was very little meat in the role, mainly due to the conventional trappings the director used in the film. Hailing from North-East India myself, the film was a laughably inaccurate portrayal of the region. I can now understand why Rani Mukerji declined the role. Queen on the other hand was an absolute triumph, and Kangana made the most of a glorious opportunity that comes one in a lifetime for most Bollywood actresses. How Priyanka could have passed on such a great role in favour of playing bimbos in Krrish 3 and Gunday is beyond me. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 07:27, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure if that's the greatest performance of the year. May be the greatest performance of a known actress in a known film. Not taking anything away from Kangana, but who knows, there might be some unknown actress who might have given some extra-ordinary performance in a relatively-unknown film, which might have went unnoticed. It holds true for the past winners too. After all, the one who is most pleasing to the jury gets the award. If you ask me, from films that I've watched, Sharada (Thulabharam), Archana (Veedu), Shobana (Manichitrathazhu) and Seema Biswas (Bandit Queen) seemed to be the right choices. I've not seen Rudaali, but I can remember that Dimple Kapadia was the unanimous choice of almost every jury-member. Revathi, who was also competing for the title then, was put into "Best Supporting Actress" category, a suggestion made by Kamal Haasan which really worked out. As for the Best actors, Mithun Chakraborty (Mrigayaa), Bharath Gopi (Kodiyettam), Kamal Haasan (for both Moondram Pirai and Nayagan), Mammootty (for Vidheyan) and Vikram (Pithamagan) were totally deserving. There were controversies when Rekha, Suhasini, Raveena Tandon, Anil Kapoor, Saif and AB (probably on all three occasions) were given the award. Didn't know that Shahsi Kapoor's win too stirred a controversy. Vensatry (ping) 16:51, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Sorry to intrude, but It's nice that Chopra left those roles for the so-called Bimbos that's why Ranaut got what she has got. She must thank her, No? Jokes apart, yes I do feel the film was weak but not laughable. It's main problem was it's cliched writing by a new writer, who had only written TV show or whatever. A director's work is to work according to the script. I think If they would have removed the filmi drama It would have been much better. But, It was destined to happen so that Ranaut can get awards, which was only possible when Mary Kom felt like a weak fil. No matter how much Chopra worked hard. Still, Chopra's best performance is her most underrated one that is Barfi!.—Prashant 19:50, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Also, Rani's reasons were different for not doing Mary Kom. As she did not wanted to burn her hands witha first time Director. Remember Aiyya, which was the dumber film ever made starring her. Mardaani too was also like Mary Kom. If you go by the experience then, mardaani was abig dissapointment as it was from director of Parineeta awhile Mary Kom was director's debut.—Prashant 20:01, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Prashant, I don't give a rat's ass about your opinion, so stop posting on my page. I have warned you several times, and I repeat once more: Stay away from me. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 05:08, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Krimuk90,

I was putting together my 3rd sockpuppet investigation for Richa101091, when I came across a likely sock User:Shwayze, who you accused of being a sock of User:Shez 15. I thought you may be interested in checking out this investigation and further linking these accounts. This seems to be a HUGE meat/sock farm for Indian-related film topics. Don't forget to check the archived cases against Richa101091 as well. Govindudu Andarivadele

I require your help in this issue for which i explain the things in detail :

It began with an IP user adding content from a non reliable source to this article which was reverted twice by me. When that IP added it for the third time, i restrained from reverting it adhering to WP:3RR and explained that user patiently about that non reliable source in its talk page. I approached Materialscientist who reverted that edit and added the article to his watchlist. Now another IP adds the same info, same source with same errors. Now, my question is, can i revert its edit? Becasue i dont know whether 3RR is violated because of reverting a user's edit or any user's edit.

I want to bring the article to GA status which i nominated on 15 December 2014 for the same, and i dont want it to fail in its GAR on the grounds of lack of stability i.e. due to edit warring. Please suggest / help me in this issue. Thank you. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:46, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

As far as I know, WP:3RR is not violated if the edits that get reverted are vandalism. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:04, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
@Kailash29792: Observe the whole situation again and suggest me what to do. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 17:19, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
You can ask for the page to be semi-protected if the IPs re-add the poorly sourced info. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 02:14, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
CambridgeBayWeather protected the page with an expiry time of one week. I hope that its GAR will, if happens, be completed within that deadline. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 05:29, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
Don't worry. If the IPs return after one week, the protection can be extended. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 05:31, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

My sincere apologies

Hello friend, first I'd like to express my immense appreciation to your on-going, wonderful work should I say, on the various articles you've been involved with. What I meant by this comment is definitely not to belittle your work - much before we all were lucky to see you join WP, this article had been years in the making, and the opposition was really tough to deal with. I realised that the quality required is really high and the research was really a challenging task, which included books, going through old magazines, looking everywhere and fighting many folks for what seemed to be an impossible mission. We all know that Zinta is known not for her work in films only; the variety of her activities is diverse and her image is extremely complex to put into paper. Other than that, it all happened at a time when many foreign WP editors were not really ready to accept an article on an Indian actress they were not that familiar with; it seemed too hard to digest for many. I must note that in my comment I didn't make any statements on anyone's work, and didn't refer to any specific article. Actually the article I'm most proud of (for whatever reason) is Dimple Kapadia, which was an enjoyable and highly satisfying project for me. Right now, there are really great, great articles, and your efforts are truly appreciated. Anyhow, for whatever wrong I might have said, I sincerely apologise, and I really am in complete awe of your efforts. Keep up the good work. ShahidTalk2me 00:37, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
