Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Kristina Deak Linsner. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Joseph Michael Linsner, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. I give you this notice per http://multiverse-magazine.com/tag/kristina-deak-linsner/. Not being the subject yourself does not suddenly make you have less of a conflict of interest. This and this does not really solve anything. Dirk Beetstra T C 20:35, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately, as "fans" are logging in to simply read his article, they see the link about it being "nominated for deletion" at the top of the page--and the prompts to comment on the discussion page. Hence, the string of entires (I imagine) here to this discussion thread resulting in "Strong keep."
I sat down with Joe and I asked him "Do you really even NEED a Wikipedia page?" and he stated "No, I don't essentially." As it was never authored by him in the first place and hardly portrays what we would like to about him and his career. He merely edited it to include links to more recent works and update his photo. (the previous one was from 2007) Which are the edits he made recently and what started this whole mess in the first place.
Part of the issue with finding and listing independent sources, is that many of these articles on Joe were written in the 90's on printed matter and have no online history. Comic book authors and artists mainly write, draw, pencil, and ink a lot. (Joe even colors his own work 80-85% of the time) They spend so much time behind the drafting table that they don't really have lives which can be reported on via any other source than links to their visual or written work. Which in and of itself, does not leave much time for articles to be written about whether or not they "had a great golf game" or "enjoy long walks in the park" or "what their influences are", etc. So, ultimatley -- whatever the decision is, we will accept it and move on with or without a page here on Wikipedia. editWelcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Joseph Michael Linsner has been reverted.
Your edit here to Joseph Michael Linsner was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Justice_League_Quarterly_Vol_1_13, http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Killraven_Vol_1_1, http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Joseph_Linsner/Cover_Artist) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to an external Wiki, then please note that these links should generally not be included (see 'links to avoid' #12).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 10:00, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
I removed http://comicbookdb.com/creator_history.php?ID=1635 from Joseph Michael Linsner.
- We don't use external links in the body of articles.
- It's not appropriate to use that link as a reference (or to include it in the external links section} since it a user-generated site and thus is not a reliable sources. See WP:RS and WP:ELNO.
- It was not a minor edit. Please don't mark content edits as minor. See WP:MINOR.
- You have a conflict of interest and should not be editing the article. Please suggest any proposed edits on the article's talk page. Meters (talk) 19:47, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- I see that there was some discussion of proposed edits on Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Joseph Michael Linsner. That's not the appropriate place for a proposed edit. The discussion should be at Talk:Joseph Michael Linsner. Please make any further edit requests there.
- And do not make personal comments about other editors. Your comments about the editor who started the AFD are inappropriate and should be removed. See WP:NPA. Meters (talk) 20:08, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

"Why is this edit request here rather than on the article's talk page where it belongs? I removed the external link to http://comicbookdb.com/creator_history.php?ID=1635 It appears to me to be a user-generated site and hence not a reliable source. We don't use external links in the article body and that site does not appear to be appropriate for use as a source or in the external links section. "
"#It's not appropriate to use that link as a reference (or to include it in the external links section} since it a user-generated site and thus is not a reliable sources. See WP:RS and WP:ELNO."
It says it is a source. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Comics/References#Magazines.2FJournals
As for my WIKI:COI I asked @Beetsra if I could edit. Please see his response to me. I did not think after reading his response that I was doing anything wrong. As for my comments, I disagree that they are inappropriate, they are the truth. But I will edit them if need be.
It is listed there because I am having a conversation w/ @Beetstra. One that you've decided to join into. Or is that not allowed on my part? So many rules here on Wikipedia. I have been on this site under 6 days now and I am trying to take them all in. If you mean why is it not on the AfD page, it is because I cannot comment any further on that page.
And I believe comicbookdatabase IS listed as a verifiable source here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Comics/References#Magazines.2FJournals See further down the page. So, either it IS a verifiable source, or it isn't. It says that it is. I am asking for additional help from an Admin or Editor on deciding this matter. If so, could you please undo your edit? User:Kristina Deak Linsner (talk)
- There's no need to copy my comments again, and there's no need to ask the same questions in more than one place. I've replied to most of this on Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Joseph Michael Linsner where you asked me the first time. I think you misinterpreted what the Comics Wikiproject meant when they mentioned this db, and I have raised the issue on the project.e
- Did you read WP:NPA? How could you think still that your comments were appropriate? You accused the nominator, User:JzG of having "an axe to grind" and of "not merely looking out for the Wikipedia community." Those are personal attacks, and you are not allowed to do that. It does not matter if you believe those comments to be true. Redact those comments or I will. Meters (talk) 02:56, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
@ Meters (talk) "There's no need to copy my comments again, and there's no need to ask the same questions in more than one place." I can copy them where I wish, i thought? I thought that they should be on my talk page as well as @Beetstras page. Again, so many rules. I will partially redact my statement -- however, I am to think that he is allowed to "personally attack" my husband's work? (see Afd discussion) That hardly seems fair or appropriate. User:Kristina Deak Linsner (talk)
- There's no need to repeat material that was already on the same page, and there no point in copying it to another page and then asking the same question that you have already asked on the first page. And the page that you copied them from was not Beetstra's page. It was the talk page for the AFD and, as i have pointed out, it is not the appropriate place to be discussion COI edits to the article.
Please do not attack other editors, as you did at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Joseph Michael Linsner. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Not only did you not properly redact the existing personal attacks, your comment about on this page verges on a personal attack again. Meters (talk) 21:54, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Meters (talk) Who are you and what is your position here on Wikipedia? Are you not just a user? What is wrong with how I redacted it? It does not mention (nor did it ever) the name of the Editor, and quite frankly, he attacked my husband's work initially. Where can I complain about that? I did not change the comment except to redact (xxx) the statements I made which could point to him. So I don't see how I "made it worse." I am done talking to you now. For good. Do not contact me on this page, or again. I mean it. I will consider it a harassment. User:Kristina Deak Linsner (talk)
- So, which is it? Do you want me to answer the five questions you just asked me on this page, or do you want me to stay off this page? I can't do both. Meters (talk) 07:02, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
@meters No, of course not. But you could use independent thought here -- answer them politely and then go away. You are a user. That was a very quick response by the way. You must live on Wikipedia, or were waiting to pounce on my response. Whatever the case, I do not care. Again, I do not think that was an ATTACK which you accused me of, and I am asking someone about it now. Thank you. User:Kristina Deak Linsner (talk)
- Sorry, but I'm still not clear on whether you want me to stay off of your page, or whether you want me to answer your questions. If you want me to answer the questions then remove the request for me to stay off your page. You cannot have it both ways. Meters (talk) 17:23, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
