Batou/Bateau

edit

Hi there. I think you're taking this spelling of Batou/Bateau a little far. : The problem with is that his official name is バトー, which transliterates as Batou, Batō or even Batoo, not to Bateau. Batou is the spelling in the Official Logs. All the English language DVDs that I own (pretty much all of them unless there are several versions) and on all the Japanese GitS merchandise that I own, and even the official website Production IG site. Bateau is the spelling detailed on the international version of the original GitS film, but that is the only place that I can find that. Ben W Bell talk 16:47, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The problem is that Batou is both much more common, and the official spelling used by Production IG Production IG Site. There is nothing wrong most of the time with direct transliteration of the Japanese in these cases, Edowado Erurikku is a very bad example as that is actually the best way they could translate into Japanese the name Edward Elric. I'm not about to undo your edits, they were made in good faith and I appreciate that, but I do think a proper discussion should be held on this one. I personally don't mind but nearly everything official seems to have Batou as the spelling. Lets see if we can start a discussion on the main GitS page, that is the place most likely to get the traffic to have a proper discussion rather than just two people having a chat over it. I agree with this, everything official that I've seen has it spelled 'Batou'. I think it should be spelled the same way as on the official websites and the DVDs. I'm not going to go changing everything back right now, but as far as I can see, 'Batou' is the official spelling and it should be kept as that. Cloudy 16:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey. I thought the IP was you. I didn't copy my reply here, as I figured you'll see it on the IP talk page. I don't think your message was snippy at all, quite the contrary; very helpful and nice. Thanks again, Prolog 23:31, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
