Thanks for uploading Image:ROGILLA 1932 VATC CAULFIELD CUP GEORGE ROBINSON.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. License tagging for Image:ROGILLA 1933 LKS MACKINNON STAKES D.MUNRO.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ROGILLA 1933 LKS MACKINNON STAKES D.MUNRO.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:11, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Racebooks

edit

Hi Les, I thought that all your uploads of racebooks where getting to the stage that they needed a seperate sub-category, so I created it under the main category of Horse racing in Australia. I now realise that this could become a problem if people from other countries start using the sub-cat for their racebooks. I probably should have made it Australian Racebooks. But we can rename it later if necessary. For now just, use the category name Racebooks when you upload any more files. Thanks for providing all your great historical information to Wikipedia. It appears solicitor Horatio Huntly Hoskins became owner of Nimblefoot in 1870. I have a great deal of trouble understanding the article, but it seems to say Hoskins was the owner at the time of the Cup. Another article says she raced under the colours of one T. Bailey. I find this all rather fascinating, but have no knowledge of racing and no references apart from Trove. Can you shed any light? Doug butler (talk) 18:22, 28 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Doug, I would concentrate on the year 1870 and before as I have found that new owner T.Bailey is listed on multiple VRC nominations for Nimblefoot on 19th October 1870 well before Hotham Handicap & Melbourne Cup. Back then the owner was listed in nominations not trainer so I am assuming Bailey has purchased Nimblefoot under this situation with transfer of ownership documentation and approval from the VRC in time for carnival. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/5836431?searchTerm=nimblefoot%20t%20bailey. Hope this helps. LESHAIGH (talk) 01:45, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

As the "go-to man" for this self-confessed racing ignoramus, could you please check my edit to racecard. Thanks. Doug butler (talk) 23:13, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Doug, The word racecard I beleive originated in the U.K & still used today.Named racecards (Folded & printed both sides no staples) in Melbourne 1850's - early 1900's.Check the Commons 'Racebooks' my uploads 1902 - 1954 yes they provide good information but not what I call information on previous starts (Prior Form).Checked my racebook collection & 1979 in Melbourne was the year when Racebooks first started to contain previous 3 Starts (prior Form). Australian Newspapers and dedicated Form publication The Sportsman was the go to guide for serious punters. Major headings in article Race & Individual horses contain current modern day abbreviation data. Hope this helps. Thanks Les LESHAIGH (talk) 01:28, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm awestruck! I've put stuff on Commons but nothing like that quantity and quality. Now I'm inspired to upload some Australian radio history ephemera. But back to the redirect edit, I gather it's more right than wrong.   Doug butler (talk) 02:20, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Doug,Confirmed more right.Wikipedia has been a great way to share my Horse photos & Racebooks with like minded people.Copyright max limit 1955 has prevented me from uploading much more. Cheers Les. LESHAIGH (talk) 02:33, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi LH. Do you have anything on this subject? I've created a redirect to Jockey Club and a mention of the term on that article. A bit bold for a sporting ignoramus I know. Doug butler (talk) 22:05, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
