Changing cited information without updating citation

edit

It looks like you recently updated city population estimates on hundreds of Texas city wikipages. In several articles that I watch, the corresponding citation wasn't updated, leaving most of the articles with incorrect citations. It looks like this may be the case for most of your recent updates. Can you please revisit your changes and verify/correct the citations for the new information you've added? Thank you! --Hebisddave (talk) 13:54, 31 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ditto re. your recent changes in city-population estimates for Nebraska municipalities. Material supported by a citation shouldn't be changed without a new citation. If you've actually consulted the same source, it suffices to change the access date. — Ammodramus (talk) 22:52, 11 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Mlpearc. I noticed that you made a change to an article, San Bernardino, California, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Census Estimate change REQUIRES new reference

Please don't change Census Estimate count for city articles unless you change the reference for the estimate at the same time. Thanks. • SbmeirowTalk02:54, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

More population estimate changes without sources

edit

Hello, I notice that you made an unsourced population change at Oakwood, Georgia; I've fixed it using the source you added at Flowery Branch, Georgia. Graham87 05:14, 15 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've fixed the source at Loganville, Georgia, where this editor did not include an accurate link to the data, but simply changed the year of access. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:09, 15 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please respond

edit

You have been updating population estimates across the United States, but the link provided to the source of your data is inadequate. In some instances, such as this edit to Burnet County, Texas, the link you provided here is merely a generic link to the US Census Bureau. This more specific link should have been used. You are making hundreds of edits, with little care to the cautions of other editors. If you continue to edit without responding regarding this I will report you to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:55, 15 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

How does one make cites like that? I don't mean any harm, I'm just trying to update articles with the census being sourced, which is what the article had before for 2014 US census. Sorry, I'm honestly a normal person who doesn't know how to make fancy little cites like you guys and I don't think it's fair for me to get flagged for just something super simple and little. Burnet County is my home county, so I wanted to make it look up to date, also. -LPFan

If you go here, you'll see the correct link for several counties and cities in Texas. To search for a new location, click on "advanced search". To find the link, which you will add to each edit, click on "bookmark/save", then cut and paste the link into the URL of your Wikipedia edit. I think a good plan would be to go back to your first edits and correct them before making new edits. Thanks for your cooperation. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:21, 16 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sometimes the "bookmark/save" URL contains characters which will not link correctly. Those need to be percent-encoded, for example a space needs to be replaced by %20 which I've done for the Auburn California article. See Template:Cite_web#URL for details. You may find if helpful to test new reference links using preview before saving your changes. Gab4gab (talk) 11:54, 23 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm just trying to get a feel for what my region's population may end up being like in the future, can a guy get a break? I mean no harm at all, I don't even want to advertise my page or anything, only for personal use.

Reasons do not matter, it is what it is, against policy. - Mlpearc (open channel) 04:59, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Never mind, found it, apparently I can't read red words.
