A question

Why did you change Corazón salvaje (1956 film) from Category:Films based on novels to Category:Films based on fiction books? Isn't ...novels a child category of the ...fiction books category?--Vizcarra 07:21, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Greetings - I want to let you know that I've submitted the sub-cat Films based on Jane Austen's books for renaming. As I try to keep the film & book cats & stubs on a leash, I notice that there are a nice bunch of books about film, filming, film trivia, making of films, etc., which are just going into the Category:Non-fiction books. User:The Tramp has been tinkering with the List of film series article, on which I know you have worked long and hard ... Are you in the process of splitting it up into separate articles for various groups? (hexologies, octologies, etc.)? Hello. Try not to be too dishearted about that template. Take more notice of the more polite, constructive comments. It's incredibly frustrating when the work you do for the good of the project seems to be unappreciated. I've felt similarly pissed off in the past when my efforts have gone unrewarded. In fact, I've realised that unless you happen to be a member of particular IRC groups, your efforts will largely be unrewarded. Try to make the project work for you, and enjoy it. I remember going to see Stargate, the movie. What year was it made? 1995? I remember wondering the entire movie whether the bad guy was actually a man or a woman..lol. I don't mean to poke fun at the movie, through, I respect any work that generated so many fans worldwide.

Anyways, good job about keeping the Stargate articles well done, it's a good idea.

Category:Disaster movies to Category:Disaster films

I count the vote as 64% in favor with 7 for, 4 opposed. Yes, that is close. My suggestion is to wait a day or so and renominate. In the nomination address the points that led to the oppose votes as best as you can. The issues seems to be that these are commonly know as disaster movies and there does not appear to be any policy to change the appearance of film in a category to movie. Mention that this was a no consensus vote and that you would like to see if consensus can be reached. As to the participants, there is a crowd that normally hangs out in CfD. Film/Movie Controversy

I am responding to your comment on my talk page. In general, I feel that if the word movie is used in a common, well-known phrase then that usage should override any Wikipedia convention, because I don't believe ordinary users should have to learn a convention to be able to use Wikipedia.

That said, I used Google to see which version of Disaster Movie or Disaster Film was being used most often and I found a lot of cases in newspapers where both versions are used interchangebly within the same article. Maybe that search was biased because I searched for both terms and thus was only shown pages where both were used. However, that and my own personal sense that Disaster Film is perfectly understandable, is enough for me to withdraw my opposition.

Also, I believe you mentioned earlier that redirects could be used to redirect users from the phrase that uses 'movie' to the phrase that uses 'film'. That works great for articles, but category redirects don't work in the sense that they don't automatically redirect. Instead the user is presented with the redirect page and has to manually click the link to get to the correct page. So for categories, redirects are only used when the community feels that it is necessary to block the category page with that name from being recreated (which would probably be needed in this case). --JeffW 18:35, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Movie vs the Proper Film naming convention

Yikes you're right! Thanks for bringing this to our attention now. I have a feeling that once a few categories slip into the "Movie" category, the problem will only get worse, as it will set a precendent for people to imitate. We could certainly go in and grind out these problems manually. But do you have any suggestions as to how to change these categories swiftly with a minimum of disruption and add preventative measures? Film serials

Dear lady allena

I suppose this is as good a place as any other to write this, though it only tangentially concerns Wold Newton (but, then again, what doesn't?) Her Pegship refered me to you re:List of film serials a little magnum opus I've been working on the past few weeks.

I suppose my main to questions are: What should I put on the page, and how do I get people to see it. I've made "blue Links" where ever there is already a page about the serial or charecter, and in a few cases created one where a charecter page didn't exist. I've only created one or two specifically about a serial because I only have so much time, and it would get a bit repetitive. What should I create (as in wikipages) and when should I refrain?

Secondly, and more important, how do I promote my list? I have spent so much time on it, I want people to see and use it as much as possible.

  1. The list should be in chronological order earliest to latest, so it needs to be flipped. Not an easy task I know.

  2. As you are grouping the serials by production company, there needs to be headings under each of the years for them. Also, they should not be in all caps. I could fix the all caps quickly, if you wish.

  3. More information may be needed, such as how many films were in each serial.

I've added that in a few cases, but it needs to be standeredized.

Sounds good to me! BTW, I've added serial pages for any serial that is at least in part availilbe on the web, and supplementary material on the surprisingly neglected Lone ranger, Dick Tracy and other charecter pages.

I worked really hard puting the production Co.s together. I would prefer if we keep theyear/company format, but I don't think we need a sublink on the contents for each company under each year. The idea is to organize the material in the easest way to understand, so if you see a film under 1936, under a Universal subheading, you get the idea immediately.--Dudeman5685 16:49, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

The list looks inclusive however I think a table format would be better. The long list down the page with the wasted space on the right hand side yielding minimal information is not an ideal way to enjoy a list like this. Perhaps similar to the ones used here Adventure_films_of_the_1930s then you could group them together by large category and then add finer detail in the individual notes. That works, too! Though at first glance, "Superman" may be assumed to link to the superhero himself, and the series article would be overlooked. I respectfully disagree. FWIW, the original nomination called for deletion under WP:CSD#G1, which I think is further off. Whatever the specific CSD code, I don't think that content like "It serves as a sequel to the first Stepfather movie,and sceond moviethat was released in 1987 and it co stars robert wrightman and david foster then it nearly made $200.00 " would have survived AfD.
