Conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Lake Matthew Team - Cole. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Colonization of Mars, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.  Velella  Velella Talk   19:47, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi. OK, would an entry from an independent PhD be ok?

edit

Hi. OK, understood; it's a COI thing. Question: Would an entry from an independent PhD be ok? We have several PhD references who act independently, and we might just ask one of them to submit our small Wiki entry himself, if that's ok with Wiki admins. Just as you think best. Thanks.

I'm not sure that you have understood this COI thing. You have a conflict of interest. It is highly probable that the Ph.Ds who are are acting "independently" (what does that mean ?) also have a conflict of interest. Please read the Wikipedia policy and guidelines to understand the issue. In a nutshell it says make no edits but instead make proposals on the article talk page with appropriate independent reliable sources. In this context "independent" and "reliable" are important - i.e not a paper you wrote yourselves. You also still need to conflict of interest declaration on your user page - again it is in the policy. Hope that this helps. Dr.  Velella  Velella Talk   20:50, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
