Beverly Bond (born December 19, 1970) is an American former Wilhemenia model, DJ, business woman, mentor, producer, writer and founder of Black Girls Rock!.[1] Bond is best known for her organization, Black Girls Rock! which has become one of the most respected award shows recognizing the sucess of African American Women. [2]

Bond was born in New York City, but was raised throughout Maryland by her mother, Mary Burroughs. At the age of seventeen Bond began pursuing a modeling career and eventually she landed a conract with Wilhelmina Models. While at Wilhelmina, Bond was booked for clients such as Diesel Jeans, Guess, Nike, and Nordstroms.[3]Bond always had a passion for music and as a child she picked up on her mothers habits and began collecting albums herself. Overtime, Bond's record colllection grew and she eventually bought a professional set of turntables. While practicing, Bond figured out that she was relly good and by the year 2000 she knew she wanted to be a DJ. Bond stop modeling due to her Dj-ing career taking off as well as it did. With the sucess of being a former model and DJ, Bond established her organization Black Girls Rock!.[4]

The name of Bond's organization came from a slogan she came up with for a line of T-shirts and it stuck,[5] when Bond started the organization Black Girls Rock! in 2006, her goal was to empower young girls of color and give them better images than the often negative depictions seen in the media.[6] The organization is a mentoring program desigened to develop young girls into future leaders.[7] In 2010 Bond joined with BET for the Black Girls Rock award show. The award show celebrates the sucess, contributions, and accomplishments for women of color. [8]
