How do I add a photo of Peter Merry to my article?

edit

The subject of my article, Peter Merry, contacted me and inquired about adding a photo to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Merry

How do I go about doing this?

Last time I asked for help, I got excellent advice and direction. Thank you in advance.

Do you have a photo you want to add? Inka888 07:33, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) The easiest way would be if he has a photo already online that is licensed CC-BY-SA (the same license as all our Wikipedia contributions - anyone is free to use and modify the content, provided they give proper attribution and allow others to do the same to their work) or some compatible license. In that case, you just save the file to your harddrive and upload it at Wikipedia:Upload (or at Commons, ideally), and follow the instructions for giving the original source and tagging it with the appropriate license.
If he wants to email you a picture, please make sure that he understands that it needs to be licensed under the very permissive terms of CC-BY-SA. It is not possible to give a photo just to Wikipedia, and it will irrevocably be released for anyone's use for pretty much any purpose, including commercial re-use. If that is clear, go to Wikipedia:Contact us/Photo submission and follow the instructions there.
Good luck, and let me know or activate another {{helpme}} if you need anything else. - 2/0 (cont.) 07:38, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Or if you have a picture you took you can upload that picture. It would have to have a copyright tag. Inka888 07:43, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

How do I place the uploaded photo in my article?

edit

The photo of Peter merry I uploaded is here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PeterMerryInCharlotte.jpg

I want to place it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Merry

Please inform me how I can go about doing this.

Thank you very much.

Hello! If you click "edit" at the article page (or this link), you'll see something like this:
{{Infobox person
| name        = Peter Merry
| image       =
| alt         =
| caption     =
| birth_date  = <!-- {{Birth date|1969|01|15}} -->
| birth_place = Seattle, Washington
| death_date  = <!-- {{Death date and age|YYYY|MM|DD|YYYY|MM|DD}} (death date then birth date) -->
| death_place =
| nationality = United States
| other_names =
| known_for   = ''The Best Wedding Reception...Ever!''
| occupation = Wedding Entertainment Director
}}
This is like a fill-in-the-blanks form. Where it says image = , add the name of the file- PeterMerryInCharlotte.jpg- to make image = PeterMerryInCharlotte.jpg, and fill in the caption field in the same way, and there you have your image. :) sonia 09:26, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
In addition, you need to send an email confirming that you have asked the person in the picture for permission.
Details on how to do that are in this page: Commons:OTRS. Please follow all the steps required. You can find templates for the response email here: Commons:Email templates.
You need to forward the email from the person in the picture to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org to confirm that he has given you the rights to use the picture.
In the meantime, I have added the pic into the article. But please follow my recommendations above or the picture you uploaded could be deleted. Thanks. --ObsidinSoul 09:31, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
