  Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Talk:Lawrence Gaughan, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Opencooper (talk) 19:54, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, LawrenceofVA. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Lawrence Gaughan‎, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Opencooper (talk) 19:55, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

This article was in existence for close to a decade before being proposed for deletion and eventually redirected. Redirection is basically a deletion of all the work and content that had existed for that time period. When someone is a public figure, such that they have local or national news mentioning their name, they should probably be allowed to have a Wikipedia page. While this deletion/redirect may seem to be with-in the policy guidelines, it does not allow for any variables or adhere to the flexibility built into the process. Given that this is a rare case of an individual who is noted in several different areas (as a credited actor, politician, and musician with several albums released worldwide on major platforms), it would be completely acceptable to restore the article in full at least temporarily as more content and links continue to be added. When the article was first published, there were only a few references, but that list has grown and will continue to develop. In the meantime, I would like to request at least a temporary restoration of the article and a copy of the content sent to the following email - Lawrenceofva@gmail.com. Thank you.
