Question about Toolserver

Hello Legoktm, I am running a bot and some web scripts on Toolserver. One of my python web script requires of support of wide unicode character (compile with --enable-unicode=ucs4), which python in web server doesn't.

So what should I do to make my tools works. Thank you :) --Nullzero (talk) 11:30, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm really not sure. I suppose you could compile a custom version of python with that enabled and then set that to the shebang line? Maybe try asking on the toolserver mailing list? Legoktm (talk) 11:38, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
I have tried that. The result is that httplib is unusable due to lacking of something related to openssl. I will ask on the mailing list as you suggest.
Btw, I'd better move some scripts to Wikimedia Labs. Could you add me to bot and tools project please? ;) --Nullzero (talk) 12:00, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

About "strange" AFC declining arguments

About that, could you also review this AfC? While declining the album appears correct (given the lack of secondary sources), the used argument not (a music album is not "an event" and should not be judged through WP:NOT#NEWS and WP:ONEEVENT, otherwise almost every music album should be rejected). New editors that use AfC (and that have obvious gaps about our policies and guidelines) could be confused by the use of such "strange" arguments. --Cavarrone (talk) 05:49, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Automatic purging / null editing

Hi Legoktm. At Wikipedia:Bot requests/Archive 53#Page purging Null edit bot you said your bot could perform a purge or null edit on request. Is it possible for the bot to automatically purge or null edit all pages that have say some specific template on them? If that were the case, then I could for example modify {{File page NFCC concerns tag}} so that it also transcludes that template when being placed on a page. Would that be possible? The rationale for this is that for files tagged with {{File page NFCC concerns tag}} to appear in Category:Non-free files lacking a non-free use rationale for more than 7 days a null edit to the file page containing the template is necessary (I don't know whether a purge would be enough). -- Toshio Yamaguchi 08:10, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

sock investigation

Howdy! I'm just curious on how you fixed the template and what did I do wrong?Coffeepusher (talk) 15:34, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Well to be honest I'm not quite sure. I just took out your evidence, saved it so the template would substitute, and then re-added your evidence. Legoktm (talk) 15:35, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
Ok, well thank you! It was driving me nuts, and I kept going over and over the instructions and couldn't figure it out. Cheers!Coffeepusher (talk) 15:39, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
I see at least one spot where you had imbalanced brackets ("At a [[User talk:Coffeepusher/Archive 1#Nestle again|conversation on my talk page], BTfromLA...") ... plus, having piped information inside a template that's looking for pipes at specific places can sometimes be problematic (✉→BWilkins←✎) 15:54, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Following my comments at User talk:DoRD#Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/NestleNW911 broken template, I've since determined (by experiment elsewhere) that the actual problem was not the bulleted list at all, but two mismatched brackets within |evidence=. Specifically, the link [[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ANestleNW911&diff=535747509&oldid=535528075 they start editing other articles] should have opened witha single square bracket, not double; and the link [[User talk:Coffeepusher/Archive 1#Nestle again|conversation on my talk page] should have closed with a double square bracket, not single. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:56, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
Got it. Thank you, I'll pay closer attention the next time I fill one of these things out. Cheers. Coffeepusher (talk) 16:02, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Legoktm. Could you add an explanation as to what this tracking category is for and how it is resolveable? Apparently I'm not the only one wondering! Thanks. SFB 19:54, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Sure, I've added some text on the category. Let me know if you have any more questions or if that doesn't cover it. Legoktm (talk) 20:00, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Yep, I've got two:
  1. How about the other four cats in Category:Commons category Wikidata tracking categories? Should they have the same explanation as Category:Commons category without a link on Wikidata, or do they have a different purpose?
  2. It seems to me that any article using {{commonscat}} is going to be placed in one of those five, so which one are we aiming to get them into? --Redrose64 (talk) 20:41, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
  1. Well it would be slightly different, but I'll add it in a few minutes.
  2. Correct. We're aiming for either Category:Commons category with local link same as on Wikidata or Category:Commons category with page title same as on Wikidata.
I'm thinking now that it might be a good idea to have a template provide the boilerplate template message so someone doesn't have to add it for every set of categories we create.... Legoktm (talk) 07:21, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
