editLess Unless! Have you ever done a GA review? — WILDSTARtalk 13:46, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hey, WildStar! I've thought about it and even started improving an article I've created but I've never got it that far) What about you? Any ideas? Less Unless (talk) 17:40, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Less Unless, oh yes I will one day, do a GAR once I see something interesting and in my wheelhouse. I nominated this article, which I wrote over a year ago, and for which two previous GA nominees (see here) were kind enough to help me prep for the GAR. Not really sure if it's a good idea, but how would you feel doing this GAR? Thanks! — WILDSTARtalk 19:02, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- WildStar, Wow, this article is a masterpiece, you've done an amazing job! Thank you for offering but I'm afraid I'll have to say no for now, I don't feel competent enough at the moment and I don't have enough energy to go through a new procedure where I'll definitely feel stressed. I hope you understand. If I get into doing reviews later, I'd be glad to help you with it. Less Unless (talk) 19:44, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- Less Unless, I figured you wouldn't be comfortable doing one yet, especially that one as a first, so I totally I understand and not to worry, you are still on my Christmas list! :-) — WILDSTARtalk 21:45, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Ourense CF logo.png
editThanks for uploading File:Ourense CF logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:32, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

- The limit on the number of emails a user can send per day has been made global instead of per-wiki to help prevent abuse. (T293866)
- Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee Elections is open until 23:59, 06 December 2021 (UTC).
- The already authorized standard discretionary sanctions for all pages relating to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), broadly construed, have been made permanent.
Access-date parameter in citations
edit(Coming here from WP:CLEANUP so as not to clutter that page.)
@Less Unless: I don't know if it's in the documentation or not that the citation parameter |access-date= needs a full date. I've encountered several error messages in my citation work over time and have just 'figured them out'. The |date= parameter will take a lot of abuse and numerous formats, but maybe not the |access-date= parameter. Most of the time when I've seen that error message, it means the date isn't complete.
Just yesterday I found another weird citation error message: the preview kept complaining that four citations were defined but not called. They had been defined in the references section and were called in the article body. Everything looked fine. I even tried to drag it from references section up to where it was called, and removed the name. Didn't stop the error message. Turns out the problem was the prior citation way up the page that was missing its </ref> tag. I sure don't know why preview told me the next four citations were defined but not called. Bizarre. Figured it out and went on my way. Platonk (talk) 17:34, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
- Less Unless next time, do what I do. Click on the (help) wikilink, seen next to the Check date values in: |access-date= (help) near the citation. I tell ya, those help links will keep you from losing it! 😂 — WILDSTARTALK 17:23, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
|
|
- Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.
- Additionally, consensus for proposal 6C of the 2021 RfA review has led to the creation of an administrative action review process. The purpose of this process will be to review individual administrator actions and individual actions taken by users holding advanced permissions.
- Following the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Cabayi, Donald Albury, Enterprisey, Izno, Opabinia regalis, Worm That Turned, Wugapodes.
- The functionaries email list (functionaries-en lists.wikimedia.org) will no longer accept incoming emails apart from those sent by list members and WMF staff. Private concerns, apart from those requiring oversight, should be directly sent to the Arbitration Committee.
How we will see unregistered users
editHi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

editIn continuation of the discussion at WP:RFPP. I am not disputing your decline. Just trying to understand how you assess significant disruption. It is subjective I believe. I believe the page has significant disruption. Almost all IP edits last six months are vandalism. So what do you look for when you agree to lock the page? Venkat TL (talk) 14:39, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Venkat TL! Even though all the admins decisions may be called subjective and to an extent they are, there are certain guidelines we follow to evaluate whether the article needs protection of not. I personally am looking at the amount of recent disruption. Recent to me means at least 2-3 days of constant vandalism from multiple accounts. The article you nominated was vandalized once a month for the past 5 month - even though there are disruptive edits, they are not enough to justify page protection. You have to understand that protecting a page makes it impossible for good faith ip editors to contribute. The other thing I keep in mind - how much time does an editor spend to revert the disruptive edits - in this case it's not much. Therefore in my opinion the article you nominated for the moment doesn't need protection. If you believe my decision is wrong, feel free to talk to any other admin active at RFPP. - An RfC is open proposing a change to the minimum activity requirements for administrators.
- Access to Special:RevisionDelete has been expanded to include users who have the

rights. This means that those in the Researcher user group and Checkusers who are not administrators can now access Special:RevisionDelete. The users able to view the special page after this change are the 3 users in the Researcher group, as there are currently no checkusers who are not already administrators. (T301928) - When viewing deleted revisions or diffs on Special:Undelete a back link to the undelete page for the associated page is now present. (T284114)
- Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Procedures § Opening of proceedings has been updated to reflect current practice following a motion.
- A arbitration case regarding Skepticism and coordinated editing has been closed.
- A arbitration case regarding WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has been opened.
- Voting for the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement guidelines has closed, and the results were that 56.98% of voters supported the guidelines. The results of this vote mean the Wikimedia Foundation Board will now review the guidelines.
Hey there! I saw you just recently protected this page, but only for three days. As you can see in the logs for the article, it has been persistently vandalized in recent months and had multiple protections placed on it as a result. Is it possible you could make the protection last longer? Preferably several months at this point, since it already had a month long protection period, and as it is unlikely the disruption will stop given his high profile role in the Premier League where most of the high profile players have their Wikipedia articles persistently vandalized. I appreciate you protecting the article but just some food for thought given the recent history of it, cheers and thanks! --TylerBurden (talk) 22:01, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi TylerBurden. Let's see what happens after the protection expires, if the destructive activities continue, I'll protect the page for longer. Thank you for your contributions and dedication! Best, Less Unless (talk) 19:38, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

- Following an RfC, a change has been made to the administrators inactivity policy. Under the new policy, if an administrator has not made at least 100 edits over a period of 5 years they may be desysopped for inactivity.
- Following a discussion on the bureaucrat's noticeboard, a change has been made to the bureaucrats inactivity policy.
- The ability to undelete the associated talk page when undeleting a page has been added. This was the 11th wish of the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey.
- A public status system for WMF wikis has been created. It is located at https://www.wikimediastatus.net/ and is hosted separately to WMF wikis so in the case of an outage it will remain viewable.
- Remedy 2 of the St Christopher case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to place a ban on single-purpose accounts who were disruptively editing on the article St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine or related pages from those pages.
New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
editHello Less Unless,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 803 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 853 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Happy Adminship Anniversary!
editThe normal week has passed. 100% of the people who commented said keep. I think it has been demonstrated that she is notable. Why do we need more time when it seems WP:SNOWBALL? You asked for non-English sources, which is what I provided already. I cannot imagine us getting to this point if someone tried to delete an article about the deputy editor in chief of a top US or European newspaper. Typically unanimous agreement to keep would be closed as such, in my experience. I humbly ask you to consider if this could be closed as keep as it stands. CT55555 (talk) 14:42, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi! I understand your rationale and your perspective but I don't think the sources are strong enough to call it an unambiguous policy based decision. That's why I am hoping for more people to join the discussion and add more IRS. If you could do a further research and find any book reviews that would be great too. But for now i stick to my decision to relist it. Best, Less Unless (talk) 19:03, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- I think three people saying keep equals consensus, but it's okay for us to disagree. I'll drop the matter here. CT55555 (talk) 22:53, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

- Several areas of improvement collated from community member votes have been identified in the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement guidelines. The areas of improvement have been sent back for review and you are invited to provide input on these areas.
- Administrators using the mobile web interface can now access Special:Block directly from user pages. (T307341)
- The IP Info feature has been deployed to all wikis as a Beta Feature. Any autoconfirmed user may enable the feature using the "IP info" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. Autoconfirmed users will be able to access basic information about an IP address that includes the country and connection method. Those with advanced privileges (admin, bureaucrat, checkuser) will have access to extra information that includes the Internet Service Provider and more specific location.
- Remedy 2 of the Rachel Marsden case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to delete or reduce to a stub, together with their talk pages, articles related to Rachel Marsden when they violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.
- An arbitration case regarding WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has been closed.
