Welcome to Wikipedia. I've reverted some of your changes to the RN list of fleet bases. The reason that I've done that is because that list is intended as fleet bases only. There was a separate list for air stations already extant. I have now created separate lists for RN hospitals and shore establishments other than fleet bases. I have populated those two recently created lists with some of the material that you have added. I don't know exactly what of the former bases and shore establishments fall into which category. I would therefore be very grateful if you could separate things out into the two lists. That way there is no confusion over what is what. To do that you'll need to access the history tab at the top of the screen. There you will find the version that I reverted with all the information that you added. Simply use the navigation template on the right of the screen to go to the lists I have created.

In the edit summary for the revert I used block capitals which could be considered to be too strident. I apologise for doing that and I hope that we can have the benefit of your knowledge in the future. David Newton 17:09, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

I note your comments on the history page of the entry I started for "Supply Officer". I am very new to Wikipedia and there is much I do not understand. It appears that you have reformatted the page to place the Royal Navy template at the top of the article - that's fine, and thank you. However, it seemed that you were asking me to do so - and I would have no idea how to do so. I did not understand the rest of your remark.

I am not even sure that I am responding to you in the right way - but I am not giving any prices to Wikipedia for the method of discussion behind the scenes, or for the use of some dreadful English (such as disambiguation)! As for my understanding of the latter, it seems that intelligence is being cast aside to cater for unintelligence; that is sad. One could find dozens of places called Newtown and they might each have a page - the reader has to use one's noddle to ensure they are referring to the right one, surely?

As to the other comment about "dewikify" I am mystified! If there is concern about the repitition of ranks, then there is a dilemma. The correct rank was either "Paymaster Rear-Admiral" or, from 1944, "Rear-Admiral" or similar. Thus, for me to list these admirals onm date order of promotion, as I learn of new names from the input of others or from my further research I need to give each the proper rank. Perhaps you might give me some idea of what you mean - of what you would like me to do?

Supply officer

I just came across your comments on Talk:British campaign medals. I left you a reply, but taking a look at your user page it seems that we share an area of interest. The Supply officer article has been of tremendous interest to me, principally because I am heading down to BRNC in October as a Logistics entrant (hoping to see myself on List of Supply Officers in the Royal Navy who have reached flag rank some day!). Researching for the AIB/ACLO interviews, I found that article a thoroughly rewarding read. A vote of thanks is hugely deserved.

Trying to do good things for Wikipedia is almost impossible. There is an ill-mannered tone among those who police Wikipedia. There is absiloutely nothing controversial or potentially controversial about what I have done; and I resent it so being written. I have saved the article because I am having ISP problems and was fearful of losing what is many hours' work. For goodness' sake, relax. What I have added is accurate and will be of interest to many who relate to this ship.

I served in the ship in late 1972 and have been expanding the ship's programme based on the Book of the Commission 1971-1972. I will return when my PC is not playing up.

It is extremely difficult for some intelligent people to do the right thing by Wikipedia yet you allow all sorts of rubbish about soap opera programmes - stuff which adds nothing to human endeavour. I had the most frightful trouble last time I tried excellently researched material. Perhaps you only want half-witted garbage from dull morons?

It doesn't matter that it is accurate, to conform with policy, the edit must be cited properly. Your edits are extremely welcome, but they need to conform to our policies regarding citations and verifiability. -MBK₀₀₄ 19:19, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi - Thank you for your note on my talk page. I sadly am not a historian but I have written over 1,600 articles for wikipedia - all of them carefully sourced in accordance with wikipedia's guidelines. During my time writing for wikipedia I have always be at pains to be courteous and follow WP:NPA, wikipedia's guideline encouraging no personal attacks. Yes indeed, sadly I am not a historian but I am a former member of the Armed Forces and never ever in my long career have I ever been compared with a member of the Gestapo. Hi - You will see that I have added a significant number of in-line references to the article. I did this to avoid the deletion of the unsourced material in accordance with WP:BLP which should really have happened immediately.
