Request reason:

I am a Library Media Specialist at Bonnie Branch Middle School in Ellicott City, MD. I have been doing a lesson with two GT Social Studies classes that discusses how Wikipedia works, what are the common misconceptions, and how they can become a responsible contributor to the Wikipedia community. This project is in conjunction with National History Day research, so they have had a month of research on a chosen topic. The idea behind using Wikipedia as the final product is for them to take their research and find a way to either a) add new, cited information to a Wikipedia entry, or b) if no new information can be added, then they could possibly add a citation to existing information. Today, the kids were practicing edits within their individual user sandbox and the IP was blocked. I understand the IP block. You probably saw 30 users all active at once from one IP. It might look fishy. BUT, we're trying to help these kids be responsible members of the Wikipedia community. Today, they got a lesson in one of many different procedures Wikipedia has in place to protect information. Can we have our IP unblocked, please? Our students are very excited about this project. We did this last year and it was very successful. Prior to this, our IP was blocked for anonymous editing, which is fine. We had our students create their own accounts while at home so that they were legitimate Wikipedia users. I appreciate your consideration.Levitateme (talk) 20:44, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Our emails explained my concern sufficiently. I have also replied. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 07:36, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Levitateme, could you please drop me an email at deltaquadwiki@gmail.com using your staff assigned email for your school please? This is so we can prevent any further issues and so we have a point of contact if we start seeing the abuse come up again. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 23:04, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Let me clarify that my students are all using their own accounts. No one is sharing a login. Because we are all working from one computer lab in our school, our IP addresses are similar.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline, one request at a time. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 23:04, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
