editPlease do not write or add to an article about yourself. Writing an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. Thank you. SmartSE (talk) 20:57, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- I'm sorry but I am new to editing Wikipedia pages. I have been trying to fix numerous problems with pages I did not originally post (including the vault organelle page, the MVP page, the vault RNA page and my own biography, Leonard H. Rome) I consider myself an authority on these pages. I discovered the vault organelle in 1986 and have been doing research on the particle ever since. I would be happy to explain to a Wikipedia editor the reason behind all of my edits. Please tell me how I can have such a conversation.Lhrome (talk) 21:18, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Leonard. Thank you for replying and for trying to improve Wikipedia! This is the place to have a conversation. To start with, I have left some links below which give some background as to what Wikipedia is as there are often misconceptions amongst newcomers. Because you have stated that you are interested in writing about topics related to yourself and your work, I have also left information regarding conflicts of interest here. As you will see, you are not prohibited from editing any articles, but you do need to be extra careful to ensure that your edits are verifiable, neutral and not promotional. You've already disclosed you have a conflict which is greatly appreciated.
- It would be great if you could improve Vault RNA and Vault (organelle) but at first I would advise that stick to working on incontrovertible facts and reference other researcher's work as well as your group's (WP:SELFCITE covers this). Unless vaultpharma has been written about in journals by other researchers or by major newspapers then it's not appropriate for you to introduce this into the article, which is why I removed it although you have since replaced it. I would strongly advise against editing the biography about you for now, since it is very difficult for people to do so while remaining compliant with editing policies. I'm happy to answer any questions, but can't promise an immediate response. SmartSE (talk) 21:46, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Conflict of interest
editHello, Lhrome. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.
- Hi SmartSE. Thanks for your quick response and thanks for the information about article editing etc. - this information has been very helpful. Please understand that my desire in editing the vault organelle page, the MVP page, the vault RNA page and my own biography page (Leonard H. Rome) is purely with the goal of having the most up to date and correct information available to readers. I did not create any of these pages, however, because I consider myself one of the worlds leading experts on vaults (and the leading expert on my own biography) I would very much like to see correct information being presented (and trust me prior to editing some of the information I found was incorrect). Now as far as Vault Pharma is concerned, the company has been written about by industry news organizations and I would be happy to add references to the section I added. If Wikipedia requires that the company be publicly-traded then I'm happy to remove mention of the company. As far as my own bibliography is concerned, I will be very careful to follow all the Wikipedia guidelines and reduce the additions I made to comply. I sincerely apologize for not using the Talk Tab to suggest the changes prior to editing.Lhrome (talk) 19:22, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
