Speedy deletion nomination of Stefan D'Silva
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Stefan D'Silva requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Tanzeel Ahad (talk) 01:33, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks for your comments. In rebuttal may I make the following points and would be grateful if you and the administrators on your editorial board consider them.
(1) The in line citations suggest that the topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject and under the Wikipedia rules in my opinion fulfills the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article.
(2) The references do address the subject directly in detail (ie Newspapers appear to have sent a reporter to interview the subject and do not merely rehash a press release from a company), and no original research was needed to extract the content.
(3) The coverage in my opinion was significant (more than a trivial mention) and WAS (although it need not be the main topic of the source material to stisfy Wiki criteria)
(4)It satisfies the criterion for reliability as the newspapers editors should be assumed to the editorial integrity to allow verifiable evaluation of notability by the newspaper at least in Sri Lanka where it made the National daily broadsheets.
(5)The sources in the list of inline citations are in the majority secondary sources providing presumed objective evidence of notability. The depth of coverage and quality of the sources and their multiplicity and not being from the same author or organization should strengthen the case for the purposes of establishing notability.
(6) All but one of the inline citations are Independent of the subject but one is a personal web site and can be considered under the category of "self-publicity, advertising, self-published material by the subject, the subject's website, autobiographies, and press releases".
What may be a subject of debate is importance but in my opinion I believe that the wiki criteria for notability have been met.

editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited B Desmond JS Fernando, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Doctor (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Re: Desmond Fernando
editWhile moving the page to "BDJS Fernando" would be possible, it would be a better solution to create an article for the lawyer (so that there would be "Desmond Fernando (lawyer)" and "Desmond Fernando (physician)"), and make "Desmond Fernando" a dab page and "BDJS Fernando" a redirect. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Stefan D'Silva
editHave just been reviewing the article on Stefan D'Silva and have to raise whether the subject is actually notable. He was a schoolboy rugby player and an officer in the New South Wales corrective services - neither of which are particularly notable. He released two books, in accordance with WP:AUTHOR, "The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews." The majority of the sources cited in the article are WP:Primary, and if fact one is from the subject himself. There are also a number of dead links. Rather than progress with an AfD I thought that I'd give you the opportunity to look at editing the article to clearly establish the subject's notability. Dan arndt (talk) 07:56, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
