Good to find you on here. I have deleted your bit about corrupt power from chess on the article about school. Alex Holowczak 21:46, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

No that wasn't me... Probably an estranged IP editor. I shall tidy a few bits up on there, such as making the link a sentence, and deleting your bit about modelling it on Harry Potter... Alex Holowczak 21:57, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
You're joking! Actually, come to think of it, I remember posters going up around school about something like that... Oh well, I'll leave that in, but I will put the link to the chess website in the article. Alex Holowczak 22:02, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia!

edit

Dear LibLord: Looks like we've been slack and no one has welcomed you. You hopefully already have a good idea how to edit wikipedia but always nice to have a welcome message to look back on if you get stuck. So...

Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!

It appearsyou've made quite a number of constructive edits to King Edward VI Five Ways. However I'm not sure if you fully understand our policies on Wikipedia:NPOV, Wikipedia:No Original Research and Wikipedia:Citing Sources as your edit to Trial of Saddam Hussein here did not obey these policies. The cited source does not claim Blair "stopped short of explicitly condemning the verdict". If you intepret his comments in that way, that's your right, but we can't offer our own intepretations of comments. If you can find a Wikipedia:Reliable Source that claims he did, then you may be able to re-add the comment with this source but otherwise it can't be included. However other then that, from a brief history of your edit history your changes appear to have been constructive and in accordance with our policies so again welcome to wikipedia and thanks for your contributions. helpme

edit

A wikipedia user keeps vandalising my school's article... Antiwheeldonsociety is the user, and King Edward VI Five Ways is the school article. What can I do to alert someone of this and get them banned?

The first thing to do would be to leave a warning on the user's talk page so that they realise they're vandalising (hey, I know it's stupid, but we always have to assume good faith first). If they continue, let an admin know at Admins' noticeboard against vandalism so that the user can be blocked. Good luck, and let me know if you need more help! —Keakealani 00:51, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Help

edit

Just wondering.. how do I alert an admin of someone that has violated their last blocking warning? In this particular case I'm talking about the IP 207.241.244.1. It was warned yesterday but has just been vandalising this article. Thanks.

You can report such instances at WP:AIV though it is often the case that admins expect a very recent warning to have been issued before acting. I'll take a look at that one for you. --pgk 18:46, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Use care with popups

edit

Please use care when reverting vandalism with popups. Reverting vandalism from the recent changes page might actually revert to a previously vandalized page. It seems that skilled vandals are making at least two separate changes to avoid being reverted easily via popups. I noticed that I was making mistakes like this as well. I apologize if you feel this note is not justified. 22:50, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Pine Crest School

edit

I made constructive edits to Pine Crest School but they were removed because I was told I didn't have sources (they were factual i.e. we had 27 national merit semifinalists this year - the highest in the state of florida for any private school etc.) but they were all removed because i didn't have "sources". Take a look at the Pine Crest School page --- the whole studnet life section and many of the other sections HAVE NO SOURCES. None of that info is contained on the PC homepage. Why does that get to stay? It's not really fair. It seems this type of domineering is not conducive to productive editing by users. It's not my fault Pine Crest has not decided to post an announcement on the internet about these things. And the kids are completely censored from publishing criticism of the school - we would get expelled or suspended. So does that mean Pine Crest has succeeded in censoring wikipedia since we can't site a "source" where the criticism is coming from -- even if it is legitimate such as "Some students feel that the administration's censorship of student publications such as Type 1 and the Scribbler is unjust." (Or something along those lines) Wikipedia is really letting me down here. Thanks.

PS - and NOW you just reverted the farris hassan and alumnae/i edits! Ah! This is so sad. Hassan is not an alumnus. This is INCORRECT information. You can change the heading and section to "notable alumni and current students" - that would be correct. current alumni is not! He is a current student, class of 2007 - he's a senior! AND what is wrong with putting alumnae/i instead? Must you REALLY edit that? it is along the same lines as using the pronoun he to refer to a child when that child could be a boy or a girl. it is sexist language - pick up any MLA book and read, they warn against this - just because alumni is latin doesn't mean it gets an exemption from the rule! what is going on? I thought wikipedia was about useful, correct, factual, productive, fair editing?

Pine Crest School cont.

edit

Thanks for the kind response. Can I put the edits back then? Would it be a better idea to change it to "notable alumnae/i and current students" - and keep hassan, rather than remove him? I think that would be best. He does have a place on the page since many people know who he is now. 65.34.134.90 18:43, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, I'm a bit confused now, sorry. It has always said "notable alumni" - I wasn't the one who put it there. That's what it has always said. What I question is putting Hassan down as an "alumni" since that term is used for GRADUATES of an institution and he is still a current student. See? I wasn't questioning the use of the term "notable" - unless you think it is trite since as you stated: everything on wiki is notable. my second concern was the use of the world alumni to refer both to men and women - see usage note here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/alumni or any standard MLA Style Manual for more info on removing sexist language from reputable publications. =) 65.34.134.90 18:53, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

"American" at History of the board game Monopoly

edit

Hi! Yes, I got confused...that's probably what comes of looking at diffs in popups. I'm not sure I agree with removing the wikilink to American completely -- I don't really think it constitutes "excessive linking," and there's a reason why American is a dab page -- but I don't feel strongly about it, so I've no reason to change it back. Sorry for the confusion. :-) --Tkynerd 20:56, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of King Edward VI Five Ways school song

edit

An editor has nominated King Edward VI Five Ways school song, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/King Edward VI Five Ways school song and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Jayden54Bot 15:48, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nonsense edit on Segway PT?

edit

I wonder what part of this edit is nonsense. In regards to having linked segue from Segway PT, I did not mean to say that the Segway has anything to do with the music term segue any farther than that they both come from the same root word. Since the article already exists and is a decent article, there's no reason my edit should be reverted. And in regards to having put the term in italics, well, the term should be in italics rather than in quotes because segue is a foreign word -- especially when referring to the word as an Italian word (which is how it is referred to in Segway PT). Before calling an edit wholesale nonsense, please be specific at it. If you think segue shouldn't be linked from Segway PT, so be it; but the term should be in italics either way. D. F. Hi LibLord, you might find it interesting that the information you recently shared with the above editor was blanked and she or he labeled both of us "overzealous vandals." Here is the diff [1]. --Kukini hablame aqui 21:00, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

i was already aware of the tags. now, kukini, you may stop your vendetta before you drive away a good faith wikipedia user (me) with over 7,000 edits. i told you this flamewar you started when you got bent out of shape because i exposed your carelessness in wikifying links was over yet you are now picking fights on every single edit in my archives. please, liblord, comment and intervene on the side of common sense. kukini may be an administrator but if you check the logs, he/she/it (legitimately not aware of kukini's gender) has been blocked for prior overzealous activity....abusing the 3RR rule. i have told kukini i am rallying troops to document info on the original site in question but that comment has not merited a response, only more semantics games and transparent instigative attacks from behind the administrator banner. i received this same treatment trying to start the entry Delaware State Fair a couple weeks ago and let me say it is driving legitimate users with good knowledge to share away from wikipedia. i trust that you liblord, based on your prior record, will come to a fair settlement before this wasting of time and energy goes on any longer. WillC 21:08, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the feedback, LibLord. I really have no personal agenda in this whatsoever. Just working to make sure that the lists of "notable" people are, in fact notable. My only issues are with the quality of our work on wikipedia. I note you have a similar focus and appreciate your comments to new users learning how to respond appropriately to vandals on wikipedia. I appreciate this in you as well as you clear and consistent level-headedness. Keep up the GREAT work! Best, Kukini hablame aqui 04:44, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vandalizing Tony Banks page

edit

I apologize for what may have seemed like vandalism on the Tony Banks talk page. I felt that the initial writing was mainly fancruft, and it did not contribute in any way to the progress made on the development of the article. Jphillst 12:41, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If the edit was not vandalism, then I myself apologise. Removal of parts of articles is perfectly legitimate so long as you justify your decision on the talk page. Edits are also less likely to be identified as vandalism if you edit under a username, so if you had been logged in at the time I probably wouldn't have reverted it. Anyway thanks, keep up the good work, LibLord 14:41, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
