DYK for Dan Erlewine

edit

On 13 July 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dan Erlewine, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the magazine Acoustic Guitar said that Dan Erlewine "might be the most famous guitar repairperson on earth"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dan Erlewine. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Dan Erlewine), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

RfA debrief

Hi Lightburst. I mentioned you by name in my RfA debrief. Though I do not think I said anything objectionable, as a matter of fairness I wanted to let you know. Comments are of course welcome on the talk page. Best, HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 00:59, 15 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks HouseBlaster. I hope you go on to prove me wrong like many others have. Lightburst (talk) 03:41, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

A beer for you!

edit
You're old school, which I totally respect. Even though we seem to have a difference of opinion on absolutely everything else! 🤪 SerialNumber54129 11:52, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Serial Number 54129: Thanks! Hope to see you around but I am editing a lot less now Lightburst (talk) 20:35, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Serial Number 54129: I would love to be able to contribute in my own small way to the project. It is a tail chasing exercise for me to spar with people across the project. I do not know how to make things right with you. I know that you and your way of plain speaking is needed on the project. I also know that you would never intentionally damage the project or other editors. I wish my detractors would look at my contributions and conclude the same about me. I work behind the scenes in projects, I write and review articles, I do not damage the project. As I said I am contributing way less now. Too many editors are comfortable creating a narrative about me where I am some evil genius dodging sanctions and mucking up the project. I had been stepping back from my contributions, but then I saw this merge-close which we would all be against in any other situation. I am not sure how else I could have handled this. I guess not reverting the close and just allowing the merge was a possibility, but the merge feels more like it is about me and not about the article or consensus. Anyway, I left this close for a few days and saw that others were miffed about it too. Thanks again for the beer and for reading this venting message. October 2024

edit

This edit [1] goes against the consensus here: [2]. Please note that this had a neutral close. You can take it to close review, but you cannot just ignore the consensus. See WP:CONLEVEL. I shall revert to the consensus now. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 20:20, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Sirfurboy: It is controversial and needs an uninvolved experienced closer Lightburst (talk) 20:22, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
It had an uninvolved close. Now this: [3] is edit warring and disruptive. Again, you can challenge a close with a close review but you must not simply revert a close. Please self revert. I'll give you 10 minutes, and then, if you haven't reverted, I am off to ANI. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 20:27, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I will not self revert. We need an experienced closer. There is not a consensus and you have been pursuing some way to delete, merge redirect for a while now. WP:NORUSH. I hope you do not go to ANI but I cannot stop you. Regular editors should not perform controversial closures. Lightburst (talk) 20:32, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Per Star Mississippi's comment at ANI, you might like to self revert now. If you do so, we can probably de-escalate the ANI thread. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 21:51, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

false accusations

edit

Regarding this comment at ANI: [4]And I lost my autopatrolled because another WPO member named JSS started a thread to punish me over my BLP on a guitar player As I've pointed out there, this is entirely false. I did not open any thread anywhere about any BLP or any other article written by you, nor was I the one who proposed that your autopatrolled right be removed. Yet this provably false accusation stands. Saying it in the first place, maybe just a mistake, that was a huge discussion and a lot of people said a lot of things. Letting it stand when your error is pointed out is deliberately letting a falsehood stand, in other words, lying.

It is no secret that I comment over at WPO, and it it is equally no secret that you read it. Do you see me attacking you, doxxing you, or mocking you over there? Do you see me hurling around completely false accusations about you at ANI? No, you don't, because I haven't been doing those things. If you're trying to take the high road and show you're "better" than people who comment at WPO, you should probably be more careful with getting the basic facts straight first. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 20:52, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Seems like a distinction without a difference but what would you like? An apology? You started some proposal to punish me and it was a symbolic f u. Maybe the one-account restriction? Even though I never had a second account - so yeah just another F U to me after I dared to start an ANI about the WPO and ATG. So I apologize if I identified the wrong proposal to sanction me. I think your participation on WPO is not congruent with your position of trust as an admin here. It must be very important to you because you were willing to lose your arb flag, and you are somehow able to square it with the trust editors have put in you as an administrator here. IMO, you can't hold hands with trolls and then say you are not a troll because you're not actively trolling. This article was targeted by those WPO folks and diminished by their specific actions. You participate there and I am sure you saw it happening in real time... that is why it is a problem. You actually allowed the project to be damaged by these off-wiki trolls and cosigned their actions by conspiring with them daily. You should consider serving only Wikipedia and stop serving the off-wiki trolls who have so many grievances. I have to remind people like yourself, that I am not a cartoon villain. I am a real person and an unpaid volunteer who wrote and reviewed many articles and did much gnome work. Try to think of that next time you want to blast me. Ask yourself if your role as an admin is to protect that volunteers working here - or to protect the off-wiki trolls. I do not think you can serve both. Lightburst (talk) 21:20, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
So, let me get this straight:
  • It's ok to lie if you iie about a person who has posted anything, even if it wasn't about you, on an off-site forum.
  • It's not ok to come to a discussion on-wiki because you read about it off-wiki.
  • Conversely, I was personally obligated to do exactly that when "they" came after "your" article.
That's some real neat mental gymnastics, but I don't think you stuck the landing on the high ground. You could've just acted like an adult and struck out the statement when I initially pointed out that every single word of it was false, but I can't say I'm shocked that you chose this route instead. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 21:33, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Just Step Sideways: Want me to cross off something in the closed discussions? Apologize better? Not lecture you about your dual citizenship? If you want a better apology here it is

Please forgive me for not identifying the correct proposal to sanction me. I was wrong to say you proposed that i lose the autopatroll right. You proposed the one-account restriction. It was another WPO member that proposed I lose autopatroll. You only voted to remove my autopatroll right. I will be more careful going forward. Please accept my apology

. Lightburst (talk) 21:44, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I guess I was hoping for one brief moment of honest adult behavior from you, but I can't say I'm surprised that didn't happen. I'll go back to my usual state of not wasting my time thinking about you or your actions now, feel free to do the same. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 21:48, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Just Step Sideways: I feel like telling you the truth is the most adult thing I can do. I am the volunteer who actively improves the project. I cannot be friends with or respect an editor or admin that serves bullies and trolls. I have been waiting for you to choose Wikipedia over WPO for a few years now. I want you to live up to the position of trust that you have here by choose protecting content and content creators over trolls. People can change, and I am hoping that you do.
