Byrne

edit

Hey. If I understand correctly, you're one of the guys from Byrne Robotics, yes? I've been reading the thread there, and it's alternately encouraging and depressing, how some of you guys understand the point of Wikipedia, and others just... don't. I do have a large amount of Byrne comics (back at my parents' place, mostly) (yes, I know what "A Flame About So High" is the answer to), and I completely sympathize with the man's wish to be properly represented here, and not have quasi-libellous trash written about him.

Personal welcome

edit

I'm glad you've shown up to pitch in on this project. All I want is for the article to be good, to be fact checked, to be neutral. It might contain some things that Byrne himself wishes weren't there (I don't actually know, I know nothing about him really) -- the article about me certainly does. But that's the trouble with neutrality. :-)

I hope you'll help the good people who just want to make this article good by providing pointers to source material, etc., to whatever extent you know them.

Stay!

edit

I just had a look at the Byrne Robotics forum, and... are you leaving?

Are you giving up on WP? I'd be very sad if that were to happen. DS 00:24, 30 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Cleveland Indians player articles

edit

Hi ... I've recently caught the WP bug and decided to combine it with one of my other passions: The Tribe. I see that you've done some recent edits to Indians' player pages also. Since I don't want to step on your toes or duplicate efforts, I thought I'd drop you a quick note to introduce myself. Initially, I'd planned to just add infoboxes to players who don't have them and do some fact-checking. But I've gotten a little more ambitious and begun to make some more substantial edits to the articles. As a relative newbie, I'd appreciate any feedback you might have about what I've been doing. Here's my [contributions page]. Ciao. Sanfranman59 00:49, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes. I am the same Kinston Eagle. Nice to hear from you. Drop me a line anytime. Kinston eagle 16:54, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're just mad because someone changed your edit! You have too many subcategories, it looks sloppy. I just tried to clean it up!

Manchester Millrats

edit

I appreciate the edits you've been applying as the season progresses. But does "Wikifying" player names mean converting them to links? In most cases, it is a link to nowhere, because the player doesn't merit a page until he gets to the NBA. (Desmond Ferguson has a page, which I recently modified to mention the Millrats.) What is the point of adding red-links? --Spike-from-NH (talk) 17:22, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi again! On the Millrats' page, I've added a link to CREZ:

I have not yet removed the high-scorer/high-rebounder/high-assist columns from the Millrats game-by-game table, but it's tempting. It's tedious to copy data from CREZ to Wikipedia after every game, when the readers who care can get it and much more from CREZ. And a less detailed game-by-game table would be less likely to be criticized as "recentism."

I've summarized other changes on Talk:Halifax Rainmen throughout the winter, in case you care. --Spike-from-NH (talk) 18:31, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Again, the point is not to be a clearinghouse for stats; I agree that CREZ does that better. This is rather a quick look at the season provided without leaving Wikipedia or the article. You'll note that pages like 2008 Cleveland Indians season have tables just like the ones you and I have been maintaining, even though MLB stats are everywhere. I also haven't worried about modifying the season template since these tables will disappear once the season's over. I have left the Manchester page to you, figuring if anyone has a real beef with what you're doing, they'll tell you. I will also post this on your page, in case you don't see the answer here. Have a good one. LightningMan (talk) 18:25, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sounds fine; thanks for the reply. --Spike-from-NH (talk) 19:31, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
PS--I have partly reverted your most recent change to Montreal Sasquatch, as the double-asterisk you used describes the same situation as the single-asterisk I invented. I made them all say "Away*", and added a little prose in the History section to explain what happened. --Spike-from-NH (talk) 00:38, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

A further divergence

edit

FYI: Just noticed--as an anonymous editor reported the results of yesterday's Rainmen game and then corrected himself--that you have been citing the scores as visitors/hosts. I have been citing them as Millrats/opponents. This worked out to the same thing through the first three Millrats games, when I started dabbling with the page. I have followed Wikipedia policy, not to assume that a table is self-explanatory when an explanation will do, and have added a couple sentences above the Millrats table--also explaining the significance of the red and green rows. I have ignored the Wikipedia policy not to use red versus green as it is a typical dimension of human color blindness. --Spike-from-NH (talk) 18:45, 29 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The reason I have been visitors / hosts is because the first time I tried to update one of these, I was told that the proper form for that table is visitors / hosts. As to red vs. green, as you can see, apparently most of Wikipedia ignores that policy because all of the sporting tables I have seen (like the one in the Cleveland Indians season that I showed you) use that format. Saint John Mill Rats

edit

Thanks for the alert on my talk page and sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, I am disappointed as a fan, but not disappointed in your stewardship of the article. The team's line (to me) (for which I have no citation) is that the Saint John arena was a happy medium between their out-of-town location at Southern NH University and a possible relationship with the downtown Verizon Wireless Arena, for which nightly rent was reportedly infeasible and non-negotiable. I'll be an occasional visitor at Barre, Vermont this winter and won't be maintaining either article. Spike-from-NH (talk) 23:07, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Continental Basketball League team pages

edit

Why do you keep reducing logo sizes? Tom Danson (talk) 18:11, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Consistency with other basketball pages. Most are at 150px (unless you've been changing them). LightningMan (talk) 19:20, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have. This is the latest in my plan. Thanks again, Tom Danson (talk) 19:33, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
