Uh, I have no idea if Im doing this right, but whatver.

I never noticed that you can edit everything on this site until now (I've actually almost never used Wikipedia). Am I really that bad of a person for thinking it's really, really funny that you can post/change whatever you want? I'd keep screwing with this site even if you could ban me for life, if I can get just one or two hours of editing in it would be worth it! But I guess the world would be a better place if we could all resist our innate urges to act like jerks. I'll quit screwing around. Hey, and lighten up a little alright?

Think ideological goals for a better world and a gift economy to benefit yourself through example and encouragement of innovation. ;-) -- Natalinasmpf 16:51, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Dear Linux: Sorry for not answering sooner. I was at home for two weeks, away from the world, recovering from my well documented addiction with pills. But the substitute I got was worse, it raised my blood pressure to 166 at one point and the whole thing was, well scary. Ive been in bed for most of this time. Im going to the doctor to tell him about what happened with this new medicine. I think I used it the way I wasnt supposed to if you know what I mean, but I didnt know of any dangers so I guess it was and wasnt my fault at the same time, that I turned by most successful detox into the most disastrous one as well...lol

That said, Im back at wikipedia (reason I wasnt here was that during this critical time, the least thing I needed were arguments with some other wikipedians so I stayed away from it all. It was my honor to nominate you. I had never nominated anyone else before except my dad a couple times, and I only nominate people who reutine quality works and time at our wikipedia to work for us. So, I guess I know an excellent contributor when I nominate them and I can say the list is really thin. You can consider yourself in a very, very exclusive group of excellent workers that we are glad to have amongst us!

Thank you and God bless you! Sincerely yours, Antonio Detox Expert Martin

edit

Linuxbeak, this edit was an innapropriate personal attack. Yeah, they may have deserved it, but in order to keep your hands clean, don't give in to that kind of thing in the future. Even calling a user a troll could be a personal attack, so avoid it. Instead just refer to innapropriate behavior, etc. Avoiding any type of abuse or response to trolling is by far the best way. It diffuses the issue instead of escalating it. Thanks - Taxman Talk 17:22, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

The blocks on NTL are affecting me, but NTL have several proxies to choose from so it's not difficult for me to work around, but then again it won't be that hard for MARMOT to work around either... Davelong 19:36, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've unblocked the NTL proxy 62.255.32.12 since having it blocked was stopping me editing. It really is an enormous problem the way that the block system is set up at the moment with ISPs that have transparent proxies. Do you think it would be useful to lock the vote page and provide a secondary "new votes here" page until this guy gtes bored? As is, no one can vote - if you tried to edit the page you'd almost certainly get an edit conflict. Might that be useful, or would Marmot just turn to the "new votes" page? Or does a bureaucrat have to approve that? Guettarda 18:19, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I left the old subsection on WP:AN/I because there were newer subsections for the same user, so it's more or less all part of the same incident. PS: I don't usually check other User_talk: pages (so that I don't have to monitor a whole long list of User_Talk: pages - one for each person with whom I am having a "conversation"), so please leave any messages for me on my talk page (above); if you leave a message for me here I probably will not see it. I know not everyone uses this style (they would rather keep all the text of a thread in one place), but I simply can't monitor all the User_talk: pages I leave messages on. Thanks!

edit

I'm not really in an edit war with him. If you read what 172.196.101.9 wrote on his revision of kalaripayyattu, it isn't so much of an encyclopedic version of history as a personal attack against me. Regardless, what he wrote is without a doubt vandalism on my own page and on the kalaripayattu website. Kennethtennyson 29 June 2005 01:16 (UTC)

Wrote this on the discussion page of kalaripayattu: All you need to do is look at the first paragraph of encyclopedia brittanica online about kung fu and martial arts and their respective histories. The person reverting the article today is the same person: 172.196.101.9, 172.197.72.35, Martinmarginela who has been involved in vandalizing my site and the kalaripayattu website (placing fake biographies involving gay biographies). The current version was written by him/her and really isn't a history so much as a personal attack against me. Open up any encyclopedia on martial arts history, read encyclopedia brittanica's account of kung fu history on-line or martial arts history on-line, or read Zarilli's book online about kalaripayattu on his website. Everything that I have been writing is fact. Better yet, read Fire Star and her history of martial arts as she seems to be another administrator. This might sound crazy, but their are some elements out their that are extremely partisan in regards to Indian history. This is quite similar to the debate proposed by P.N. Oak on whether or not the Taj Mahal is a Hindu temple vs. a Muslim temple. It is similar in that there really is no debate and most scholars agree that the Taj Mahal is a Muslim temple and P.N. Oak has been discredited as a historian. Kennethtennyson 29 June 2005 01:49 (UTC)

Thanks

edit

Thanks for the revert on my personal page. Personally, I think that the person who is haveing an edit war with me is the same person who is constantly pasting messages on my personal page with sprinklings of profanity. Kennethtennyson 30 June 2005 22:28 (UTC)

Just FYI

edit

I writing this because you also go involved in Kalaripayattu article issues.

On 21 June 2005 I was following the edits of 68.14.62.73 (talk · contribs) and other proxy ip used by same and found an anti-india bias, user also started personal attacks on other wikipedians calling Hindutva, pro-BJP etc. (Later after my repeated request he wrote his name as Kennethtennyson (talk · contribs)).

Authors of Xiangqi, Buddhism, Sino-Indian War were able to resolve issues thru the talk pages. But sadly maintainers of Kalaripayattu did not, may be he did not have enough to prove his side.

AFIK, Regarding history of Kalaripayattu, Since years, even before BJP, I have heard the theory that Buddhist monks taken it to China. Also this was supported by a Japanese karate teacher I know. But about Bodhidharma's connection to Kalaripayattu is something I hear new.

-Bijee 1 July 2005 01:06 (UTC)

Oh, please. I don't know about that IP number, but in regards to those pages, I've been trying to correct the pro-Indian bias that was on these pages and revert the pro-Indian bias changes that you made, Bijee. Not only that, I've actually contributed to other websites that dealt with Indian history strictly and Chinese history strictly without having any problems as I am interested in both. I've only run into you on a few pages. Let's see... You stated on the "TEA" page that the Cantonese word "Cha" is an Indo aryan term when that is false. Then you stated that Chinese chess was unequivocally derived from Indian chess (chaturanga) because Indian chess is "older than christ himself." Let's see.... all I did on the Xiangqi(chinese chess) page was add the phrase " Chinese chess might have been derived from an earlier Chinese game Liubou along with a theory that Chinese chess could have come from Chaturanga (the indian chess game)". How is that Biased? Oh, on the buddhism page, I stated that Buddhism originated in Nepal (which is supported by many textbooks given the fact that the Buddha was born there.) Hmmm... have you actually read the discussion page for the Sino-Indian war and all of the edits that various Indian writers have added? Other editors before me have had a stroke just trying to convince the Indian writers on those pages that they should take a NPOV. Oh, and for kalaripayattu... let's see - the original article that I and other editors before me disagreed with basically stated... "kung fu and all martial arts in the world derived from kalaripayattu because bodhidharma brought it to China from India with Chan Buddhism." Don't you think that sounds like a stretch of the imagination? All I did was revert these articles to a NPOV that you call biased. Just because it doesn't support your POV doesn't mean it is biased, Bijee. Kennethtennyson 2 July 2005 03:02 (UTC)

Friendly Chat

edit

Hey, my friend, how you been? You know, my article "Military history of Puerto Rico" was featured in the main page on June 30, and let me tell you, the experience was bitter sweet. I've decided not to work on anymore featured articles and certianly do not wish to have one on the main page again. Let me tell you why. When you work on an article for featureded status, the scrutiny is great and you have people who help you or critize you, that really know what they're doing and want to help. Your article then becomes a great article and is elevated to featured status. Before your article can be featured on the main page, it must pass the scrutiny of Raul, who makes the final touches. Then comes the part that I learned not to like. The article appears on the main page and is constently vandalized or edited by people (not all) that have absolutely no knowledge of the written subject or want to post their point of views. You have to spent almost 24 hours watching your article and protecting it from vandals. Take a look at the "history" of the article on today's main page and you'll see what I mean. I believe that an article that has already been voted as a featured article has already passed the reliability test but, should be open to futhur improvements. However, if that article is going to be posted on the main page, it should receive a temporary 24 hour protection, since it will be read by countless people and is subject to innumerous acts of vandalism which may distract or discourage well intended readers. Let me know what you think about what I wrote. Your friend Tony the Marine 1 July 2005 19:29 (UTC)

Vandalism

edit

Thanks for catching the vandal on my userpage - second time he's done that this week. Seems to dislike his edits being chased down, for some reason. Shimgray 6 July 2005 16:15 (UTC)

(Sorry about the duplication - been having edit problems) Whilst I've your attention, could I just check something? I can look directly at the edit history and see the content of the vandalism [1], but attempts to look at the diffs involved with the edit cause a grand collapse and a fatal-error message. Since you're almost certainly running a different setup to me, can you try loading either diff and see what happens? I suspect it's a bug caused by page sizes, but don't want to report it if it's just showing for me. Shimgray 6 July 2005 16:28 (UTC)
Aha. I was vaguely aware of CDVF, but didn't realise it had a feature to show the size of any given edit. Handy. I'm not an admin, but familiar with rollback - didn't know it was capable of being used even with a dead page, though. Thanks again. Shimgray 22:44, 10 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
