Good evening Eric,
In this message you wrote
- I sent this to you as a Wikipedia email a few days ago. It's not that I'm terribly impatient, but ever since I realized that Conze's page was deleted and rewritten, I've been eager to improve it. But I first wanted to determine if it was possible to restore the deleted version. Here is the email I sent to you:
- Considering that Shantavira's article on Edward Conze was adapted with permission from Sangharakshita's Great Buddhists of the Twentieth Century, I'd like to know why the article was deleted.
- Did Sangharakshita (or his estate) revoke permission to use the article? I found it curious that it was suddenly removed shortly before Sangharakshita's death, at the instigation of Michael Attwood aka Jayarava, an amateur scholar with a publically known personal bias against Conze.
- The deleted article gives a much more complete picture of Conze, and as such, is of much higher quality that Jayarava's article.
- Many thanks for any information or insight you can provid
- Best regards, Eric Lodru (talk) 21:04, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
Simple answer for Wikipedia purposes. Please read Wikipedia:Copyright violations. There is no such "adapted with permission" provision for text subject to copyright as Great Buddhists of the Twentieth Century Sangharakshiti "© Sangharakshita 1996" obviously is. Text must be either in the public domain or licensed under this or other compatible licenses for it to be included in Wikipedia articles. Please see Wikipedia's terms of use and copyright policies. Hi Shirt58: The copyright holders are willing to consider licensing the now deleted entry on Edward Conze under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. Can you make this page available for their review? Thanks for your help. Lodru (talk) 20:55, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
