Marton Pecsi
editMarton Pecsi (1923-2003) was a Hungarian geographer and loess scholar; he was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and Director of the Geographical Institute. He graduated from the Eotvos Lorand University in 1949. His doctoral dissertation dealt with palaeogeography and geomorphology of the Pannonian Plain and Carpathian Mountains, and with the history of fluvial terrace formation in the middle reaches of the Danube. Widescale Quaternary studies carried out under his guidance resulted in publications such as the National Atlas of Hungary, a seven volume monograph on Hungarian landscapes and many others. Marton Pecsi fully appreciated the loess series significance as a source of data on the history of environments. He was President of the INQUA Loess Commission from 1977 to 1991. This was a critical time for the Loess Commission and Pecsi oversaw the expanding of its sphere of influence from Central Europe to Worldwide, and the beginnings of studies on practical problems. He was President when Loess Letter was launched, this became one of the most successful INQUA newsletters. A memorial Issue of Quaternary International was produced in 2006, entitled 'Loess and Palaeoenvironments across Eurasia[1].

London Stock bricks
editLondon Stock bricks were the default building bricks in nineteenth century London. This was a time when London was expanding rapidly and many bricks were required. The London Stock was so named because it was made (by hand on a frame or stock); the main source material was the brickearth (loess) which was found in the London region and in north Kent and south Essex. They were fired with admixtures of chalk and combustible rubbish (often called spanish); the chalk gave the fired brick a yellow colour and the spanish improved firing efficiency. The below ground monument to the London Stock brick is the Bazalgette sewer system (1860-1880) which saved London from cholera; the above ground monument is probably Kings Cross station built of yellow Stock bricks in 1852. Loessification moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, Loessification, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
