Optical-mechanical workshop "Oscar Richter"

edit

Hi! Thanks for creating this new article. I'm not sure if the German Wikipedia has a different style, but in my view this article needs a decent amount of work to be ready for mainspace. All of the "History" and "Innovations" sections, which is the bulk of the article's content, are unsourced. The "Company founder" bit is just a long quote, which is strongly discouraged, especially given that it's written in an unencyclopedic style. With the "From Richter's life..." bit, it's best not to include the bulk quote, instead simply include a sentence mentioning that a letter was sent and maybe its content (how does the source treat the excerpt?). We don't need to catalog everything :P. I would make these changes, but I don't have access to the source materials and thus can't add sources or do justice in rephrasing it. Hi Vermont! Thanks for your comments. I will add an online source for the "History" and "Innovations" sections in the next few hours. And I will also send you a link today to documents (scans of German-language texts) which you can use - as offered - to make the corrections. Many thanks and best regards! Optical-mechanical workshop "Oscar Richter" moved to draftspace

edit

Thanks for your contributions to Optical-mechanical workshop "Oscar Richter". Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and it's inadequately sourced (please see WP:NCORP), with substantial amounts of unsourced material, and is more about Oscar Richter than about the company itself.. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:43, 16 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Justlettersandnumbers,
thank you for reviewing this article and please, if you can, answer my following question:
I own a copy of "Erinnerungen aus meinem Leben" (Memories from my life) by Oscar Richter. The scan of this autobiographical chronicle in German (public domain, because the author died in 1905) is available here: File:Oscar Richter - Erinnerungen aus meinem Leben.pdf.
Almost all the statements in this article can be substantiated with the descriptions contained therein. It also contains information that should at least double the size of the company-related part of the Wikipedia article.
Is this unpublished document, taken from the family archive, recognized as a valid source for Wikipedia? (Only if this is certain would I make the effort to improve and expand the article.)
Many thanks in advance for your response to this and best regards from Dresden

Hi, LogoX! At first sight, it looks as if that is an unpublished typescript (I may be wrong, but if it were a published text I'd expect it to be set in blackletter type). If so, it is not a reliable source and cannot be cited in Wikipedia; if it was published you'd need to provide details of the publishing house and place and date of publication; it would in any case not be an independent source, and so could be used only to support the most basic details of the company.
