Okay, I have tried twice to change my cousins birth place. His name is Dr. William Longshaw. He was born in Manchester, England not the United States. His father was not a doctor. I'm the person who submitted his picture. There are two places that I tried to change. One being under his picture. Wikipedia has him as born in Manchester Virginia. He was born in Manchester England'. I do have articles from my cousin Eric Longshaw Harrison in England. I also have ancestry articles. I thought we could edit???? Please do not take away my editing right!!

Longshaw, I appreciate that you are trying to edit a page about your relative, but please see WP:SELFCITE and WP:COISELF. You cannot be a source. To understand Wikipedia sourcing, please see WP:RS. You also need to be aware that you have now been reverted by 3 different users and are involved in what's called an Wikipedia:Edit warring and that if you make more than 3 reversions within 24 hours you may be blocked. Rather than just making the change, please read the guidance and find a source that can be cited on the article page. I'll be happy to talk with you, or you can also visit Wikipedia:Teahouse where there are users on most of the time that can answer questions. Thank you. ToeFungii (talk) 18:49, 7 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The article's talk page

The place to make your case is the article's Talk page. To succeed, you will need references. Repeating edits when your changes are being reverted is considered a sin at Wikipedia.David notMD (talk) 00:33, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

What sources are available that I'm not seeing?

edit

I can see that the new account User:Longshaw who is a cousin of this subject has tried to make corrections here but has been reverted. As the editor who's been sourcing this former stub, I would like to know what sources does Longshaw see that would allow us to correct any inaccuracies? I get the impression they are from personal correspondence. The Boston City directory reports in 1866 that Longshaw Sr was a "druggist" or pharmacist. This makes sense, considering this subject's early training as a pharmacy clerk. The source I'm using for birth place and birth date is the article about the subject written in 1913 by the medical director of the U.S. Navy. So that seems like an authority. What other sources should we be looking at? BusterD (talk) 14:23, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dr. William Longshaw

edit

I have two uploads that I have of my cousin's birth. He is my 4th cousin, 4 times removed. His name is Dr. William Longshaw. He was born in Russell Street, Manchester, Lancashire England on April 1836 and emigrated to the United States of America with his parents (William and Margaret from the Port of Liverpool, Lancashire England to New work arriving March 31, 1842 on board the ship 'Siberia) see Census England, Passenger List Arrival at New York March 31 1842, 1850 and 1860. U.S. Federal Census and U.S. State Census for Lowell,Massachusetts. I have photocopies of the census from Manchester, England 1841. William senior was 30 years old, Margaret 25 years old. William was 5 year old.

I have the 1841 census for William and his parents. They left from Liverpool Lancashire England to New York March 31, 1842Longshaw (talk) 22:31, 9 May 2020 (UTC) Lorraine Longshaw Harrietha

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.
